PoE's "skill tree" was one of its worst aspects, it's a giant illusion of choice, especially in a highly competitive online multiplayer game. You get penalized for trying to figure out how to play the game instead of just looking up how to play it.

You are talking about the passive's tree. The skill gem system is actually one of the better parts of PoE and definitely something that should be in all ARPGs going forward.

It has been years since I played it, I did not remember what it's named. I did not care for it then, and I care for it even less now as my ability to critique RPG mechanics has improved.
I assume that anyone who either does speedrunning or hardcore ladders is a ******
Most of the people I know/knew that play these games played exclusively in hardcore.
I refuse to play any online game in hardcore because I'm not about to lose dozens/hundreds of hours of work to an internet outage or lagspike.

I just play games as a casual because I'm too fat and ******** to play without a bag of cheetos in my lap. If a game is too hard I just turn it off and go back to Gun Smoke.

I wouldn't play any hardcore game past more than 12 hours or so per character, on or offline. That's how long a very slow, 15-rune DCSS character would take me, and dying near the end of one of those fills me with an unparalleled sense of emptiness. I can't imagine how much worse it would be if it were dozens or hundreds of hours being thrown into the void.
Well gents, I've been away from this thread because I've been playing the game non-stop since release. My first impression is that PoE 2 is its own thing, vastly different from PoE 1. As for the quality I found it to be ******* AMAZING so far. This game has everything, the sensation of overpowering challenge, the looting, the bliss of levelling, the struggle, ALL the upsides of a good RAPE without its main downside of making a w*man orgasm. I managed to clock 20 hours into the game but sadly won't be adding much tomorrow.
I suggest everyone give this game a try, it's HQ for sure.

Played the Warrior until Level 23. None of the Abilities that I could get, appealed to me at all. Too slow and too many Abilities that seem to trigger with a delay instead of instant.
I'll check out the other classes
