Vagabond's Quest

Just seeing that image alone caused a bunch of old memories to come back. I can't find any screenshots of this game, and there's exactly one (very poor) video.

I played as a psion.

I remember spending hours trying to get thru the dungeons of despair

Hey Rusto you're in luck! VQ is coming back!

Closed testing is going on right now, but public beta is due in 2020!

I'm sure there's just a couple more microissues to work out.

BYOND in general. One or two got famous and remained around like Space Station 13, I guess. But most of them are probably forgotten.

(team fortress like game)

Is this just about a style of games that doesn't exist anymore, or actual lost media games that not even the developers could give to an archive if they wanted to?

Actual lost media, the games I've listed so far were online multiplayer games that effectively could not exist anymore no matter what due to their circumstances.

Some fan has been very slowly remaking it but it's essentially a dead project

Spellbinder: The Nexus Conflict was Mythic's answer to Magestorm which was a game I heard of a lot back in the day, but never got to play. Spellbinder was based on I.C.E.'s Rolemaster system of all things. Once EA bought up Mythic all of their older games fell by the wayside including this one.

This guy has a great video showcasing the levels and three of the classes and as someone who played the game he's definitely on the ball explaining how it used to be.

There was a couple MUDs that used rolemaster
notably, the Gemstone games.

Rubies of Eventide, especially as it originally was.
There was just a big town, you couldn't leave, and every combat was put onto a separate turn-based map.

Image

The version that eventually released seems to be action oriented and more open, never played it.

Closest thing I can find to what I actually played:
s-l1600.webp
s-l1600 (1).webp
I came across this site, the "Universal Videogames List" that I've never seen before, while searching. It surprisingly has a lot of very obscure games.
https://www.uvlist.net/
e.g.,
https://www.uvlist.net/game-41196-Illus ... e Eternals

I remember RoE being advertised for ages and then it seemingly dropping off the face of the planet. Then I heard about it again later and tried out whatever it was it turned into, held my interest for about ten minutes.

At least you managed to play something. I remember seeing the ads, but when I actually got around to look it up, it was already dead.
