Got Stellar Blade on sale and so far I’m not impressed so far ,I really question people praising the game other then the obvious reasons.
Doesn’t help I was expecting a character action game but instead got Dark Souls.

Yeah basically just indie dark souls with 300 outfits. On the same level as Code Vein imo.Unhelpful Contrarian wrote: ↑ December 2nd, 2024, 02:52Got Stellar Blade on sale and so far I’m not impressed so far ,I really question people praising the game other then the obvious reasons.

There are still good obscure indie games and total convertion mods. Currently playing classic fallout mods and is having a blast.Nooneatall wrote: ↑ December 2nd, 2024, 03:07You get to choose :Unhelpful Contrarian wrote: ↑ December 2nd, 2024, 02:52Got Stellar Blade on sale and so far I’m not impressed so far ,I really question people praising the game other then the obvious reasons.

Chronicles of Valetaja: In search of the keybinds and Homos of Might and Magic 3.
Oh and Deus Ex: Invisible War, but I finished.
I don't like CoV's UI at all, feels like it was made for a mobile phone. I know sweet FA about UI design, but it feels like it was made with malice aforethought to be as difficult to navigate and hard to read as possible.

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. I can groove with the gameplay, but every time I have to go back to base and manage every single aspect of the kingdom and instruct everyone on what color to paint the doorknobs I die a little inside.
I'm also torn between making my own minmaxed party of ******* to try out fun classes versus putting up with great characters like the black paladin who has a nogger moment and beats someone halfway to death within his first ten minutes in the party, then awkwardly gay flirts with me afterwards at camp.

I dug out my PS Vita to play stuff on while lying in bed. I had Wild Arms XF installed, so I'm playing that. It's a PSP tactics RPG set in the Wild Arms universe. I've never played any Wild Arms games before, but it seems to be a fantasy setting with a light wild west flavoring, though this one doesn't really feel very western what with the plot so far revolving around a kingdom's internal power struggle and all the knights about.
I'm pretty sure I found it originally by looking at lists of tactics games for the PSP, and I think I understand now why I'd never heard about it anywhere else. The AI is completely braindead. In the level I just completed, for example, more than half the enemy units, though active, never arrived at the front line; some got stuck on a cliff, others sat in place uselessly buffing their stuck allies. Magic seems way better than physical in nearly every case: it generally hits harder, doesn't miss, has longer range, and can target elemental weaknesses. Since the game allows you to freely change the classes of your characters between levels, I've completed nearly every combat level so far with a team of spellcasters. "Combat level"―I phrase it that way because the game also has forced stealth levels (yes, plural, and I'm still in Act 1). There are levels in which any of your units getting spotted is an autoloss, which entails absolutely zero interesting gameplay because it's a turn-based game with no stealth abilities.
Itemization is also utterly boring: equipment is class-locked (though you can potentially equip a skill to wear the equipment of another class), there are only three slots per character (and it's really two in practice, for the middle slot seems to only be used for shields, and only one class can use those), and, despite each class' equipment having some minor bonus effects, it mainly comes down to small differences in raw stats: "Hm, shall I give my spellcaster the armor slot item with slightly higher defense or the one with slightly higher magic resist?"
The game uses a hex grid, which makes me happy on principle, but it doesn't use it very well. The levels are, so far, very wide open, and the extent of my tactical positioning has been stationing a spellcaster at the edge or base of a cliff in order to nuke pathing-impaired enemies on the opposite side. There's no facing, but there is a flanking-esque mechanic: placing units on opposite sides of an enemy, in a triangle formation around an enemy, or surrounding him on all sides grants your units bonus damage on their normal attacks. Unfortunately, this isn't of much use, for it doesn't boost damage from skills, and magic still does more while having no chance of missing.
The plot is what's keeping me interested. Spoilers for Act 1 follow. The game begins with the protagonist, a girl named Clarissa, and her companion, a man named Fierce, pursuing a villain named Rupert for to retrieve from him her late mother's sword. The two follow him to a kingdom in turmoil: the king lies ailing while a council of wicked nobles and officers governs in his stead. The royal knights passively resist the council by refusing to act without direct order from the king, so the council has recruited an army of mercenaries, the "Safety and Security Force", with which it suppresses dissent among the people and enforces its new and highly unpopular taxation policy. Clarissa ends up tangling with the Safety and Security Force shortly after arriving, witnessing firsthand their brutality and wantonness. Soon after, the strangest of happenstances is discovered: Clarissa looks identical to the first princess, who died a year earlier in a suspicious "accident". Unwilling to ignore the chaos and suffering around her, Clarissa impulsively decides to set aside her own quest in order to play the part of the princess and lead a revolution against the council...
The art and music are fine, but nothing really stands out to me. Enemy units look identical to the generic units the player can recruit, which is a bit lame. I find it hard to tell the classes apart at a glance, which tells me the visual identity for most is not very strong.
I'm going to continue because I don't want to leave another game unfinished. I'm really hoping the levels improve later on, but I suspect the AI and other systemic issues won't allow it. If the interest of anyone reading this is piqued by the idea of a vaguely wild west-themed fantasy tactics RPG, I highly recommend playing Fae Tactics instead; it's better in basically every way.

It's a card game in which you're pitted against a malevolent entity that wants to capture your soul ( I think). The rules are quite simple and pretty addictive, and the game offers some minor exploration of the building in which you're trapped, with accompanying puzzles that give you extra cards and items.
At least that was my opinion of Act I. Act II so far has fallen off a cliff, switching to jrpg-esque exploration and low res graphics. I'm not sure I'll make it to Act III.

Was about to say, I thought it was a fake card game and that it was actually some kind of horror/walking-simulator/art game.Element wrote: ↑ December 2nd, 2024, 10:17Inscryption

I very much dislike Dark Souls and is the few games genres that I actively avoid playing.

Another game I'd recommend that's quicker to complete is Buckshot Roulette. Not a card game, but you're playing against a single villain at a table.Element wrote: ↑ December 2nd, 2024, 10:17It's a card game in which you're pitted against a malevolent entity that wants to capture your soul ( I think).

Very true unfortunately. People need to have better standards instead of praising **** because it fits their ideological positions.

Act III goes back to Act I's perspective, but everything is now cold and blue and there's an annoying map minigame you have to play through several times. It's all downhill after you're done with Act I.Element wrote: ↑ December 2nd, 2024, 10:17At least that was my opinion of Act I. Well, still Mass Effect 3 since I am streaming it to a friend and since timezones are a *****, it isn't done in a day or two, plus I am playing Path of Exile since Metro Exodus was getting abit annoying with the cinematic way of doing stuff. Wanna climb a little ledge? You're stuck in an animation scene, wanna crawl somewhere, animation scene and so forth. Also the first area sucks alot.

Thanks. Yeah, I think I'll have to drop it. The music in Act II alone is bad enough to warrant cutting it short. A shame, since Act I is very good even though the difficulty can be too sensitive to randomness ( I steamrolled through it as soon as I slapped the unkillable sigil on the squirrel totem ).Tangerine wrote: ↑ December 2nd, 2024, 16:13Act III goes back to Act I's perspective, but everything is now cold and blue and there's an annoying map minigame you have to play through several times. Out of curiosity, I did a search for "wild arms xf sucks" on Google and found lots of people talking about how they hate it... for being too hard.
Either there's a fun difficulty spike in my future or the average tactics gamer (at least of the ones who post online) is ********.
Croc: Legend of the Gobbos
Next up are Blood Omen and the original Soul Reaver titles to be prepared for the Soul Reaver Remasters.
► Show Spoiler
You didn't miss out on much. The game, at least from its first impressions, is a mixed bag. Camera auto-adjusting itself in an annoying manner, controls feel too light compared to Croc 1, and a few more questionable design choices like gems not being collectibles a la notes in B-K or gems in Spyro.
Still, it has some potential, but the game benefits more from getting a Remake than a Remaster, tbh.
