Ask them to release the source code for monsters & mammaries client/server under the GPL. And a public statement praising Richard Stallman.
If that fails, ask them if they'll detail how the database<->editor communication works as seen in your video you posted before.

Idk if they'll read this, but I'm curious why they decided to design using the database->editor instead of using solely the editor or editor->database

I think it would have been fine without raiding. The problem would have been with trying to keep them from multi-group cheesing the group content.Kalarion wrote: ↑ February 5th, 2023, 05:28I liked raiding. I think the big mistake was not allowing parallel character progression via hard (really hard) group content, crafting etc. EQ etc made raiding the only viable way to get good/interesting/cool gear.
I think that's one thing FF XI nailed. Half the BIS items for all jobs pre-Wings was either crafted or came from group-only content (BCNMs etc).
Didn't I hear in the Codex MnM thread that they're having development problems and not making a lot of progress?
I would have liked to have seen how they would have approached that development if they had stayed focused on group content.

I didn't know the time-space continuum was folding tomorrow.
I completely missed this game, or forgot about it.
Regardless, I am pretty excited about this. I watched the video and thought... sold... done... I don't need the game to be anything other than what EQ was (though I do like some of the additions in terms of races and classes).
This also looks close (actually better) to the first engine representation of Pantheon and people back then were saying "heck, the way it looks is fine, just make content now".
So I would imagine that when they do release, they will get a lot of interest from that crowd as well.
Also, if they are planning on open sourcing part of the game possibly, I would imagine this would really take off.
The biggest problem with EQEmu is they constantly have to fight the client, but with this... sky is the limit. Definitely going to watch for this.

Hopefully, the worst things are what made it a game IMO. We will see how true to release features they keep though.Tweed wrote: ↑ November 16th, 2024, 01:19If you enjoyed all the worst elements of EQ you're gonna ******* love it.Xenich wrote: ↑ November 16th, 2024, 00:03I completely missed this game, or forgot about it.

Things I would love to see:
1. Corpse runs, all gear left on corpse, city only bind points, only casters can bind. Corpse locator spells, corpse dragging, etc...
2. Blind spell memorization (ie inability to see your surroundings while memorizing or meditating spell points), spells that aid in this limitation (awaken, alarms, etc...).
3. Slow travel, large zones.
4. No rubber banding, trains, mobs run faster than regular run speed (and regardless of run speed spells, some mobs always run faster).
5. Packed dungeons with pathing mobs, rare spawns, camp spots, etc.. public dungeons.
6. Group game focus, very limited raiding to special events or the like.
7. Group focus content, soloing possible for only those who are creative.
8. No class "balancing", classes will excel and suck at some things. Utility classes, great group support, but not great at any singular thing.
9. First person view only (original release) if I remember right, I think the camera toggle was added a bit after release.
10. No quest hand holding, gotta research, talk, think, experiment, explore... etc... Also, text input, no hand hold follow the bouncing ball dialogue trees.
11. Dark, I mean pitch black night in some areas where if you don't have night vision or a torch, you can't see much of anything.
12. Long fights, no quick combat, slow... CC, getting an add meaning death without proper support.
13. Short buffs, no long buff spells where it all becomes pointless. Situational buffing, selective buff choices, etc...
List goes on, but basically that is a start.

They have a good focus it seems, not catering to mainstream, focusing on developing to their niche making development more reasonable.
https://monstersandmemories.com/faq
No real raids, just events, so group focus.
Monthly sub, no micro-transactions, slow play, etc...
They know their audience it seems and don't care to cater to anything past that which is good because the moment they start opening up for that, in comes all the "modern conveniences" audiences who whine and complain about how it should be more like <insert modern slop MMO>.
They appear to understand what made EQ what it was and it seems they also understand what slowly decayed EQ as well.
Seems they aren't interested heavily in "funding" externally right now, more focused on building the games core and then once it is established, considering where to go next.
It will be interesting to see if they can achieve the original intent of EQ before the ******** "Fires of Heaven" types started demanding the game be made for them.
EQ's engine and content isn't a difficult thing to design and implement these days, so if they have a good team, they should be able to achieve a solid product without "selling out".
Granted, a lot of modern players are going to throw tantrums, but they aren't needed, or IMO wanted for this type of game, they will only screw everything up as they are too "programmed" to modern design and play.
If they go slow, watch their expenses, they can release without being in massive debt and the crowd the pick up will be sufficient to carry them in continued development expenses.
As they flesh out, build more content, I see this game becoming a solid experience and pulling quite a few people (within in reason to its focus) to which it should be successful under that intent and focus.
Here is hoping.

I continue to be impressed with these guys. Not only are they solid on their focus to what they want to create, but they are very organized as well and it appears they have their funding figured out already (which is why they aren't begging for money right now). I remember watching how frigging amateurish Pantheon was, taking forever to get up anything remotely listed as a plan and most of the time when they did present something, it was vague, disorganized, and slapped together.
These guys have been working on this since I think 2020 and are around 15 people so far working on it and are on schedule for a Q3 EA and then a Q4 live release. If they complete this on time, game will be 5 years of development with a similar amount of people that it took to make EQ, and likely nowhere near the money backing (comparably speaking).
Compare that to the complete disaster of Pantheon which took 10 years to even hit EA (supposedly December this year) with only 6 zones done (and word is they aren't even that "complete") and after having completely changed the focus, style, etc... of the game numerous times.
These guys are confident enough to put their money where their mouth is and be open in their development cycle to the public. Mad props to that, regardless of how the game turns out.

I'll be on Relle if anyone needs a guide for the upcoming playtest. The game is still a little rough but the experience of playing is phenomenal.

Yep. Early access is still on track for Q1 2026, with the head producer stating he expects it to be ready in January.Xenich wrote: ↑ August 31st, 2025, 12:05

I am completely avoiding this game for good reasons. I want to know as little about it (in terms of the actual content, I still check on features and the like) so when it hits release I can be a complete noob and focus on playing and learning the game as I did release EQ. I plan to avoid all hint, info, map sites, etc... to get a solid experience even when I play it. Should be a rewarding experience.
