To be clear, that's 11-12 companions depending on if you make your own character or not.
Gale is decent, same with Wyll. Didn't have an issue with either's personality, good classes.
Halsin was also pretty good personality-wise, but he was not available as a companion when I played the EA, just a story NPC.

Also, of all the characters to bring back, Jaheira is a really weird choice.
Jaheira was deity-tier at the end of BG2, and she's old because she's a half-elf. Timeless body from druid, I suppose. But she's so intertwined with the bhaalspawn's story that it just doesn't feel right at all. Don't think they're going to be able to handle it well regardless of how good the writers assigned are.
If I had to pick a character to bring back, I'd have gone with Kivan from BG1, a very memorable companion but no strong ties to the bhaalspawn. And for BG2 to round it out, Korgan Bloodaxe, again a companion with no strong ties to the bhaalspawn but still very memorable.
Both have lifespans that would make it reasonable.
Then again, WotC is probably making these decisions and it's not like they understand the target market.

The cleric girl is the only one that seems like she might be ok, but I was planning to play as a cleric, so she won't be in my party

Jaheira is a constant character in BG I and II. I smell WOTC shenanigans, where they told Larian that if anyone goes back to play the originals, they have to have someone to latch onto.
And Minsc is considered part of the canon party for BG II, just like Jaheira is.
I don't know. It makes sense. But it also doesn't. I don't know. As long as the game is decent, at the end of the day most people won't care too much.
Unless they kill Boo, or something.

I think it makes sense to have a character as an anchor to the previous games, and Jahiera is literally the player's guide for BG1, so from that perspective it's fine. I thought her canonical ending slides said that she left the Sword Coast, though. I do agree with @rusty_shackleford that someone less central to the Bhaalspawn would be a nicer choice. (Not Kivan, though. He's the perfect BG1 companion and should be left alone.)
WOTC must hang

When I last looked at the character creation screen for early access it doesn't show what the subjob features are. I had to visit a fan wiki.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 5th, 2023, 16:52watJ1M wrote: ↑ July 5th, 2023, 16:49Will the UI show what those subclasses get beyond level 3? Or should you not want to choose, you can create a hybrid class through Multiclassing.

Kotaku is over there saying it's not bestiality it's just a man turning into a bear. Poor mentally illwits.

You pay your hard earned money for a AAA studio to develop "Baldurs Gate 3", a game you used to love, and years later you find yourself taking it up the *** from a bear. That's how they get ya

I know you're being facetious, but nobody should pay money for BG3, every studio goes down the drain when they upsize and Larian massively upsized. It would just be throwing your money away. Sadly, this will likely be the last good game they make.

If this was my gaming studio’s magnus opus and likely last hurrah and i dedicated so much resources to the sex scenes and romance i’d have at least made some of the chicks bangable and not all requiring the pc to be into femdom or pushed around by a wannabe girl boss.
I just showed the bear scene to a normie coworker and his response was "isn't that how we got AIDS?"

A reminder that if you want this game that you're a person into bestiality and other forms of depravity. Friends don't let friends support bestiality and perversion.
How many of these ******* games are in early access? All of them that I've bought are ****** and bugged to ****.
