Junior Adventurer's Guild - November: Dragon Age: Origins
Anyone have an issue in The Fade where your mouse form never travels all the way to where you click?
You mean you click and its starts to move - but stops before reaching the point where you clicked? Are you sure there is pathfinding all the way?Jordy wrote: ↑ November 13th, 2024, 16:06Anyone have an issue in The Fade where your mouse form never travels all the way to where you click?
The Fade is quite tricky, I generally use WASD movement there as in the rest of the game.
Just in mouse form it keeps stopping, even down a straight hallway. I have to click the target multiple times for it to get there. Not a big deal really but just wondering if it was a common issue.fkirenicus wrote: ↑ November 13th, 2024, 16:11You mean you click and its starts to move - but stops before reaching the point where you clicked? Not saying the stories wouldn't hit home so to speak, but still, wouldn't it be quite tragic being a male inquisitor who shares a deep friendship with Solas having the twist and its consequences unfold? I'd say so.fkirenicus wrote: ↑ November 13th, 2024, 16:05You know, most games it generally doesn't matter and mostly I play male half-elf bards (NWN/ToEE) or warlocks (NWN2), but DA in particular I feel was written in a way that suits a female protagonist best... Every game (up to DAI, I have for OBVIOUS reasons not played DAV!) , except maybe DAO/DAA (the Morrigan plot etc. is also quite good. I have played that quite a few times with a male mage as well).Reichspepe wrote: ↑ November 13th, 2024, 15:52
Kind of cringe to play women still, even worse doing it every time, but okay![]()
And thanks for the mod link![]()
Especially if metagaming/one knows the lore/what happens (and I dare say I do; I don't think I've played any game so many times as I have played DAO).
And in the case of DA2, one doesn't want Anders to force gay sex if you answer him politely.
The Solas twist at the end of DAI Trespasser is quite cool, but since "Trick" Weekes has stated that "we did not want Solas to be either gay or bi to avoid tropes about such people being evil" or some such nonsense and they instead made him "racist" and straight, the only real option to get a real good ending with DAI is to have a female elf inquisitor. Look it up on youtube, if you haven't seen it.
Also, being a woman in all those stories feels wrong to me even if I you could only play as one or if it was a woman playing the game, as it just doesn't fit for me for the "roles" to not be fulfilled by men. Which yes, is a real world conviction I transfer over to the DA world, even though it has cringe pseudo gender equality in its lore. In DAO at least, most positions were comprised of men where they should be, with women being in the minority.
Most importantly, playing a woman and romancing a man is... kinda gay to me

I just remember with horror playing DAE with a male Garrett Hawke the first time, and it was quite like that cartoon someone posted a while back:
- "Hi, I am Garrett. Who are you?"
- "I am Anders, and you are being nice so we shall have gay sex by the end of chapter 2 at the latest."
Merrill's story isn't that good IMO, and Isabela is... well, Isabela.
It works quite well as a male mage playing the Morrigan plot in DAO/WH. Also, though that's one thing I've never tried myself, one should be able to oust Alistair and become king with Anora as queen (the famous "Alistair ends up a drunkard in DAE" plot). Hmm. Maybe I should try that, for a change. Only, it's just sooo boring to play warriors or rogues.
Regarding DAI, none of the companion stories are particularly interesting. I like Dorian, because he's a good guy. But I wouldn't want a male character coming near him. The elf female mage works fine with (or against) Dorian as well. He's always in the party in Trespasser.
And no, there's no dating guys with horns, neither as male nor female.
So, we're basically left with Solas. But you're right, you can develop a friendship with Solas, also as a male (but I think you have to be an elf for certain dialog options). However, the ending is far more tragic with the female elf.
I just wish one could get rid of Varric. Both in DAE and DAI.

Also, even if I like some aspects and characters like Solas in DAI, I just can't play and much less take it as canon anymore because of the innumerable lore rape occasions in it.
And Varric really should not have been in DAI, at least the amount that he was. He overstayed his welcome far too much.
By the way, why do you say DAE? You mean Dragon Age II, right? I was confused since I first read that a while back

Was the working title for DA2, played upon Hawke ... well, leaving Ferelden for the Free Marches.
There is a mod on Nexus which "restores" the name on the main screen.
But anyway... the way Bioware has wrecked the brand now, I can't see that I in the immediate or foreseeable future will be playing DAE or DAI again (and certainly not DAV). For me, DA stops with Awakening. So, might as well scrap that default world state and try different approaches. The dwarf origin stories are quite cool.

Basically, it's a one-off story with a short epilogue in the form of Awakening. Just to show that the Grey Warden job doesn't stop after a Blight, I suppose.fkirenicus wrote: ↑ November 13th, 2024, 17:20Dragon Age: Exodus.Reichspepe wrote: ↑ November 13th, 2024, 17:14

The series ended there. Maybe we'll get a spiritual successor one day...

You know, the toolset of NWN was widely popular, because it was so easy to use to create areas. Scripting has always been a different matter; but basically: one could fire up Aurora and start creating exciting stuff.TKVNC wrote: ↑ November 13th, 2024, 17:44

The Electron of NWN2 was a bit more tricky, and powerful. But the amount of modules made for NWN2 is far less than NWN.
And then, the DA toolset: most powerful of the 3, and horrible to use - at least if one wants to create new stuff. That's probably the reason Bioware reused the same cave maps for about all caves in DAE...
I think there isn't much more than maybe 15-20 modules made for DA, and many have been lost over the years (e.g., Return to the Korcari Wilds).
But there are some who have begun making modules with the toolset again, and maybe - just maybe - we can look forward to cool stuff still.
There is a mod I want to try called Unbroken Circle, which recently was released on nexus.
I played all origins and at least tried them all with both genders. Quite sure DAO was written with male Cousland as a main protagonist in mind. The rest was added latter, so, even if you do get recognition here and there of all others and they are well written even, the flow of the narrative is not as smooth.Reichspepe wrote: ↑ November 13th, 2024, 16:24Not saying the stories wouldn't hit home so to speak, but still, wouldn't it be quite tragic being a male inquisitor who shares a deep friendship with Solas having the twist and its consequences unfold? With that said, my personal canon - female mage (Solona Amell) works - well enough as game has enough refences to both gender and class. (Absolutely blows in Witch Hunt, though)
DA2... Well, I like to have Carver with me, and Amell family is more important than Ferelden's royalty there, so, it works well as continuation for the mage story (if we forget the absurdity of Hawke being mage). Gender did not feel important, though.
DAI was the first game where women had more romance options than men (that was even a sale point, or at least a sale pitch). Aside from Solas they all were quite meh but, yes, female protagonist (preferably mage again for additional tension with Chantry) feels like default.

"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
I finished the fade and barely got past the last boss. Had only my main character alive, used a bunch of potions and it really came down to the final hit.
Annoyingly, I still need to use injury kits on my party even though they were downed in a dream world.

I wonder how DAO would fare if it had BG's turn based combat system.

You'd probably ************* before you even get out of Ostagar. If you won't change anything other than the combat system, you'd have fights every step you take lol.Jordy wrote: ↑ November 14th, 2024, 15:07I wonder how DAO would fare if it had BG's turn based combat system.

High iq chads prefer (real) RTwP, by the way. Turn-based is for low iq people who think sequentially.

Sorry I meant BG3. The only reason I asked is because the game feels like it wants to give somewhat of a hands off approach with tactics slots but I'm constantly pausing and micromanaging my team anyway.

Speaking of BG, if you scroll the mouse wheel all the way down, you enter the isometric tactical camera. I remember thinking that a lot of locations looked quite beautiful from that angle. The library on the 1st floor of the mage tower comes to mind as a great example.

Ah got it. But I gotta say thank god DAO is RTwP. I can't stand turn-based. I tolerate the system only because some games are interesting due to setting, story and characters. Hated that BG3 was turn-based too. ******* ******* kept saying no to a RTwP system next to TB yet smaller teams/devs did it because Turn-basedfags kept crying.
