Also, can we get the current roster in the OP maybe? I'm having a hard time remembering who's who.

Chapter 6: Riverside Showdown

The opening volley of arrows fails to pierce the daer's hide. Skull Smasher recklessly charges forward first as the archers retreat behind the infantry line.

After seeing him climb on top of the beast and begin wailing on its head with the flat side of his blade, the rest of the fighters charge in.

Miraculously, it goes down with only Bonecrusher taking a few major, but survivable injuries. It was Sivan's skewering of the right lung that made it finally collapse.

Skull Smasher is award the honor of the killing blow.

Not a bad haul. We start making nicer meals that consume more ingredients with the benefit of making everyone happier. Surely this won't backfire on us.

The donkeys get roped into a little pen outside the fort. It's not big enough to sustain them, but it'll keep them from running off for now.

We finish researching smithing, and as if on queue, two dirty new people appear via a hole in the ground. They call themselves the mine/craft duo. Boontaker is wearing pants by the way!

The small chapel has been established in the fort, and Lord Stack's throne has also been completed. It's kind of making me mad that it isn't centered so he'd better take a wife soon.

A smithy is halfway set up when all of a sudden...

9 brigands come charging out of nowhere.

The men barely get together outside when their cavalry hits the flanks

Thankfully the river to the south slows their infantry down. Skull Smasher's side easily takes care of the rider. Archers take the middle and fire at an incoming footman. Boontaker, being 14, stays in the rear and hopefully won't be needed.

The top rider is beheaded and a shot from Mathieu pierces the stomach of the first footman and sends him fleeing.

Hoss downs the coward before he can cross the river. The bulk of their forces reach and clash with our top unit. Skull Smasher turns to reinforce while the archers are in a decent enough position to keep loosing arrows safely.

Vitya brings his two-handed hammer down on Howard's head so viciously it explodes into a million bloody chunks and immediately sends the brigands into a rout. Two of the brigands discuss the meaning of life.

Their leader is so heavily armored that we need to gang up and just absolutely rain down blows to get through his heavy hauberk, nasal helm, gauntlets, and heater shield. They're all ours now though! People don't like wearing things that others have died in, so it's a good idea to strip enemies before the bleed out. Although we'll be able to smelt the tainted armor once we get the forge up and running so it isn't completely useless.

After the adrenaline has worn off, William realizes the muffalo he fought managed to crush one of his toes beyond recognition. In total, five brigands and one of their mounts were killed.

Acrux can't tolerate Hoss' apostacy and they come to blows.

Hoss gets his *** beaten, Bonecrusher shows off his new ability to rescue people, and Shani moves to mop up the blood.

Even kicked him in the nuts.

Vergil also performs a conversion ritual on Hoss. It didn't convert him, but it did drop his certainty to 1% and give us a development point (2/10). Everybody who participated will get a minor mood bonus for a few days too.

Sivan tames another tortoise. He names it Gregz for no particular reason.

Aw, they're friends!

Now that we have a throne room, The Fallen Dominion is willing to perform a special ceremony with Lord Stack. We send word and they arrive in style.

Strange waves pulse across the great hall in waves as the ritual is underway....

...and then nothing happens. They just kind of leave. That was weird.

More importantly, the forge is an a workable state. We should decide what we're going to do with it.

Right now we can only make simple weapons, helmets, and shields. Our fighters should decide on what they want to bring into battle, and we'll determine research priority from there.

As a general rule, blades slash multiple body parts at once, but have low armor penetration. Maces are the opposite. They mess up armored enemies, but are weaker against unarmored ones. Polearms have improved defensive stats, letting you parry and riposte more often. One handed weapons let you carry shield for addition defense. Crossbows strong, bows fast.

Now that we have an Artificer, he can make executive decisions on what we research (Or the Lord can be a **** and overrule him)

Why is Skullsmasher pissing about with a shortsword when you got a hulking great warhammer as battle loot?

Why does it have to be there? That wretched little mountain, just squatting in my line of sight like a grotesque guardian of my torment. Day after day, I wake up to its monstrous silhouette, a relentless reminder of everything I canβt reach, everything I canβt escape. Itβs like a weight on my chest, a boulder pressing down, suffocating the spark of creativity that struggles to ignite within me.
I see it, looming large and indifferent, mocking my every attempt to rise above it. I canβt work with it there, canβt breathe with it hovering over my dreams. It blocks my view of the horizon, the endless possibilities beyond its unforgiving edge. All I want is to see the sun dip below the world, to feel the warmth on my skin, to be free from this prison it has constructed around me.
Destroy it. Yes, thatβs the answer. I imagine myself standing at its base, armed with a pickaxe, each swing a cathartic release of my rage. I want to shatter it into a million pieces, watch as the rocks tumble down like my own shattered hopes. Wouldnβt that be beautiful? To obliterate the source of my despair, to clear the clutter from my mind, to reclaim my view of the sky?
@Stack of Turtles Your Majesty, I come before you not as a subject seeking favor, but as a soul burdened by the weight of existence. I stand here, stripped of inspiration, drowning in the shadows of my own thoughts. It is the mountain that looms over my spirit, a relentless force that stifles my creativity and ensnares my mind in darkness. I seek a pickaxe, Your Highness! A simple tool, yet powerful enough to shatter the barriers that confine my soul. I wish to break apart that insurmountable rock, to free myself from its suffocating grasp.

And I'll do it again, too. Let that be a lesson to all the pagans.

Long pig is back on the menu, thank God. Would have had to start plotting some terrible bloody murder accident if the king had permitted this travesty to go forward. Nice to see that all that time studying philosophy is paying off.

I don't know if this was planned from the beginning, but in the end we made our characters out of our forum personalities. Yeah I hereby order @Boontaker to go toil in the mines or whatever. Don't come back until you've excavated every single tile of rock. Make sure you stand under the mountain when you get the last one!
