The main issue is that it was very different to what people wanted or expected. It has pros and con, but if you didn't like Prometheus, thought it was boring, it's more of the same.
It does some of the "explaining things that don't need to be explained" but I think the idea for it is quite interesting actually.
The android David is actually responsible for the creation of the Xenomorph seen in the Alien movies.
