Various video game stuff not deserving its own thread
Can't believe this screenshot of a character mid emoting looks goofy that usually never happens when you randomly pause videos.
I'm just stating the facts.

Even if we ignore her, the bigger issue is Maria - she is meant to be attractive, she is meant to be alluring and provocative (since she is basically a tulpa embodying James' sexual frustration), yet they not only made her uglier and gave her a bigger head, but also toned down her attire.UltraFan123 wrote: ↑ October 8th, 2024, 22:51Like if she had looked buttugly in the original game then nobody would havw an issue with the remake.
This tells me that the people that made the remake either profoundly misunderstood what Silent Hill 2 was about, or deliberately went out of their way to undermine the narrative themes to appease their shitlib sensibilities.
This is an actual problem worth posting about instead of looking for extra things to complain about like Angela btw

They changed Angela for the same reason.
On related news, the studio responsible for the remake seems to be actively trying to hide the wokeness.

Full article: https://thatparkplace.com/konami-delete ... audiences/
At the end of the article it does point out that these studios are still 100% on board with the woke stuff still, but now they're trying to gaslight players into believing that they're abandoning the propaganda by deleting any public mention of it.
In any case, regardless if these companies are truly abandoning DEI or not, I'm sure that not only is this too little too late, but it will also trigger the narcissistic activists who always demand that these companies openly support and celebrate them 24/7.

I couldn't find a Halo thread so I'll post this here.
Besides the obvious, I also want to point out the objective hypocrisy of stating that real-life guns are evil and at the exact same time openly support a current military conflict in the middle east.
Like, the guy could've just say that he looks forward to continuing the legacy of Halo without inserting the "guns bad" tidbit, but narcissistic activists can't help themselves it seems.
I can't unsee it!

They did it.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

Her obvious Jewish ancestry, her chubby cheeks and the look of a beaten puppy makes her ideal for male dom.
Cavill looks good. At least in this screenshot.

That's because Cavill looks good, period.
Netflix cast the actors in inverse proportion to how attractive the characters are. All the Slavic 10/10 cuties got turned into ugly ********* (redundant, I know) and the fugly Slavic man (redundant, I know) Geralt got turned into Henry Cavill.
It still gets to me that they cast the ugliest blackest sheboon to play Fringilla, a woman that looks nearly identical to Yennefer and specifically makes skin creams that make her look as pale as possible.

Sorry...
Seek professional help, you have a severe case of poo fever. That's a pajeeta.
Ugly women enjoy the fantasy that someone like Cavill would find them attractive, these modern shows are basically their self-insert fanfictions.logincrash wrote: ↑ October 9th, 2024, 05:51That's because Cavill looks good, period.

Don't let common sense get in the way of a good chance to virtue signal.
Trying to lure the female audience to a show based on a male-centered setting is beyond stupidity. Finished playing the Silent Hill 2 remake. Here are my quick (not really), over-simplified thoughts:
It was EXACTLY what I thought it was going to be. A "good" AAA game (painfully generic) but a terrible Silent Hill game. A "good" AAA game that takes the original story and simply warps it to modern day game design.
To no one's surprise I'm sure.
There's definitely effort put into the game, but it misses the mark in being a Silent Hill game without the original's aesthetic and vibe. It really is the "modernised", "hollywood" version of the original.
I can totally see why normies will eat this **** up, and I won't say I didn't enjoy it at times. But goddamn this game reminds me of what all is wrong with the industry, which I mentioned in my previous comments. The main thing is, that in 20 years, this game will be very much "of its time". It has zero staying power. Despite all its polish and upgrades, it has nothing that you cannot find in its contemporaries (RE2 and 4 remake). It is such a "safe" release by Konami just like how the new God of War games were a "safe" release, taking the popular, tried-and-tested aspects of their contemporaries and just polishing that without doing anything interesting by itself.
What's worse is the padding. Holy **** the ******* padding. They took a 7-8 hours game and stretched it to 17-20 (including new scenes which are completely unnecessary). The amount of combat is also way too much, and enemies are super aggressive that running past them is not an option. At first, the combat loop is enjoyable enough, but the game keeps throwing hordes of enemies at your face so frequently that it becomes absolutely grating after a while. I do appreciate the revamped enemy behaviour, and some of the boss fights (like Eddy) are definitely a welcome upgrade. But holy **** this game's combat is NOT good enough to be thrown at your face as often as it is. The extra length and padding, and the constant running back and forth means the pacing is absolutely shot, and the game does little to hold your attention for that long. Whereas in the original, everything felt airtight. The game knew just how long to keep you in the same location without making you want to quit the game out of boredom. I cannot imagine replaying this game without significant mods.
As for the uglified characters, Angela is bad (still) but Maria is so much worse. How the **** is it possible that JAMES looks consistently better than her, when in the original, he wasn't ugly but the difference between him and Maria was night and day? As others have mentioned, she has completely lost that uncanny feeling to her, nor does she look nearly as attractive and seductive as she did in the original (thanks to the ******* at Hit Detection). There is a scene in Heaven's Night where she flirts with James, and the effect of the new design really shows in that, it's quite laughable.
And I already mentioned this more hollywood/ "cinematic" approach to storytelling lacks the subtlety, charm and appeal of the original, even though the game follows the script quite closely. Again, normies will eat it up and I'm sure the "progressive" "fans" will accept it as a "modernised reimagining" of a classic game, but to me, it's just a flavourless retelling of the original.
Speaking of which, an example would be when James watches the videotape. The original game does a fantastic job of conveying the gravity of the scene without telling you what James is feeling. The camera simply hover over James' head as he's sitting motionless on the sofa, hunched forwards, elbows on his knees, head hung down, with 'True' playing in the background (phenomenal scene). The remake focuses on the reflection of James' face in the TV screen, before cutting to a direct shot of his face before Laura enters the room... need I say how much worse that is?
It doesn't help that the remake rendition of 'True' is just so lacklustre. Like many of the songs, it's way too overproduced, lacking the simplicity of the original and being too meandering. Not all is bad though. I like the shot of James Nevertheless, it's still an overall inferior scene.
As for the music, I already said my piece on that, but I will add that Yamaoka did a decent job overall given what he was working with. Well, at least in the sense that the soundtrack certainly matches the "modern", hollywood-esque nature of the game. But that's not really a compliment because the result is that the new soundtrack rarely excels outside of being "a good ambient soundtrack", it fails to be a good standalone piece of music that is fresh and unique like the original game did. By his own words, Yamaoka admitted that he had trouble producing the remake's soundtrack. But it's crazy how this game's OST feels antithetical at times to the attitude Yamaoka embodied decades ago. Here are some excerpts from interviews he did back in 1999 and for 'The Making of Silent Hill 2' respectively:
1999:
"For Silent Hill, the first thing I wanted to avoid was the "revered creator", and what is created by those who revere the creator. This was my first concern. To make something like that would be the height of embarrassment and insincerity… peppering the work with ostentatious eccentricities and making something unbearably pretentious, that was another thing I was determined to avoid. Of course, being a slave to hackneyed traditions wasn't an option either.
There is no background music in Silent Hill. I tried to depict the sounds that would be heard in the world of Silent Hill if it existed, using the art of conveying sound through air vibrations. The stereotypical sounds that are often described as "game music" do not apply to Silent Hill at all. I also avoided trying to make "cinematic" music as I felt it would sound too intentional.
I also tried to to think about how people would interact with Silent Hill as a PlayStation game. To that end, my sound design is like a blade sunk into Silent Hill, carving out a space to make it unique from all others".
Making of SH2:
"... I think that the sounds in Resident Evil are pretty formal. I would say we are used to hearing them. Whereas for Silent Hill 2, I really tried to create something that would surprise you, something that would challenge your imagination as if the sounds were going under your skin..."
Truly the AAA landscape in a nutshell - high effort, well-polished slop that lacks any creativity and soul of its own. If it wasn't any more apparent, I ******* hate remakes for how much they embody this idea.
Edited for typos and grammar **** a bunch of extra remarks.
