I like it so far, except this :notsureif:
Literally the 2020 strong badass black woman archetype, along with the tumblr haircut. I wouldn't even be surprised if it's GW mandated, as most of the game has good non-pozzed characters.

We really need a mod like Wokeless Wrath for Pathfinder for Rogue Trader :sad:

@Serjo Maybe later on, but I wouldn't count on it. She's the master of arms of your ship, after the old one got killed. Luckily you don't have to interact with her much.

@Dunadan knows probably how to replace NPCs. Is the Audio/Text of her annoying or bearable?
The Portrait can be replaced by the dozen AI ones that are available on Nexus I'd say.

I'm not sure she even has spoken lines, but the writing and characterisation is fine, as with basically any character in this, her being a black woman is the problem. Of course in a mod, I would make her not only white but also male. I am hesitant about replacement of portraits for this game, as art-style-wise, I really like them. For this character for example, I'd just keep the image, but edit it to show a male, like the person on here did with the BG3 loading screen mod replacing Wyll with a white guy.
All this of course only if I even knew how to begin doing stuff like this :lol:

Honestly, I think she’s hilariously ironic. She might have indeed been mandated to be a ‘strong black woman’ by whatever higher-ups, but here’s the thing, this is WH40k, so here we have a ‘powerful in-charge black woman’ who is a brutal and repressive COP!

She isn’t running around being a special early-warning-system snowflake, questioning how the Imperium is run and being the mouthpiece for shitlibs like that heretical walking stereotype Idira.

She’s the antithesis of everything a cotton-candy hairdo freak would want in a character like this. Brutal and efficient enforcer who comes from a noble family that have provided enforcers to the Rogue Trader Dynasty for generations.

So yeah, she’s a token black who’s the embodiment of everything a ghetto hoodlum loathes.

After meeting Cassia and Argenta, I'm now convinced that women in fantasy settings should be either delicate back-line casters with submissive personalities or zealously devoted uber-religious who also remain at the back-line, no third options or anything in-between.

You don't understand, Owlcat and GamesWorkshop are the kind of people that worship ******* not because of how they behave, but because they're black. So, you could make literal Hitler a black woman and they'll be praising her till their voices give out. This is simply a black and white issue for them.
This is not "unintentionally based" nor do they "deserve credit." They put a sheboon in there on purpose, so they deserve nothing but derision.

Idira may indeed be interpreted as a nod to Tia Dalma who was born and raised in a ****** backwater world and the nigress master may indeed be an "opressive cop", but I likewise doubt that such interpretations were the intention of the devs.

It does have online coop. Mostly just slows down combat by giving individual people control over various characters, but it’s still a fun way to share it with a friend.

“cinematic” that’s a good joke.

Edit: Mistakenly put Climatic instead of cinematic.

I’m going to put a hot take any say that the CO-OP doesn’t work well in Owlcat Rogue Trader compared to Larian BG3/DOS where it nicely integrates to its gameplay and story.

I tried this again and it's decent I guess, carried heavily by the setting for sure

adapting any tabletop RPG ruleset directly to computers is a bad idea imo, the only reason D&D(and totally-not-D&D) gets away with it is because of spellcasters having such a large selection of spells, and similar things. Once you don't have something like that to fall back on for all your complexity, you really see all the decisions made to keep tabletop play simple/streamlined.
This game just feels far too abstract.

I actually suspect this is the reason you level so fast(to start with?) in the game to begin with, but I can't comment on the source material. I strongly doubt you're leveling up near every fight in tabletop tho. My guess is they realized how boring the combat is and tried to rush players into high level play to compensate.

If you manage to get to chapter 3, come back here and tell me all about it. This game is a pathetic attempt of an RPG overall. Id say its even worse than the upcoming Dragon Age.

I'm pretty sure BioWare will handily outdo Owlcat in both the shoddy craftsmanship and faggotry saturation levels with this massive turd they're calling Veilguard. I'd say only Bethesda can give BioWare a run for their money when it comes to being the worst videogame developers. Owlcat is nowhere near as incompetent as Bethesda and not yet as far progressively corrupted as BioWare, no matter how many gay ******* they put in their games.

Owlcat is **** at a lot of things but to say it’s a worse RPG overall then the upcoming Dragon Age game is just a gross exaggeration.

It’s one of the few RPG’s where I’ve actually felt like I was ‘In Charge’; despite all of the running around, it never really feels like I’m an errand boy except right at the beginning and maybe a bit of Chapter 1. Also like the fact that there’s a bunch of stuff you do in your home base since your home base is a frickin Starship.

I know this is typical Owcat marketing fluff but I find the idea playing any of there games on Ironman mode ( especially with the inclusion with there subpar mini game)is appealing as putting my **** on a cheese grater in a 12 hour rubbing session.

The Grim Darkness Challenge comes!
Lord Captains!

To celebrate the launch of the Void Shadows DLC and the introduction of Grim Darkness (“Ironman”) Mode for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Owlcat Games is happy to announce a large competitive event: The Grim Darkness Challenge!

What is The Grim Darkness Challenge?

It is an intense competitive event for streamers, where, over the course of two weeks, participants will compete live in beating (or making it as far as they can in!) Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader on Daring difficulty in Grim Darkness mode - a newly introduced brutal gameplay mode where only a single save is allowed and is rewritten every time a player exits the game. All decisions and consequences in this mode are final, reloading is impossible, and if the party is defeated—the game is over!

Registration

In order to participate, you need to either be a streamer that is already a part of our partnership program Owlmates, or have a channel on Youtube or Twitch with at least 5000 subscribers and a reasonable number of views on recent videos. We’re ready to discuss corner cases (for example, some leeway may be given to non-English-speaking streamers with national audiences), but also reserve the right to deny registration without explanation if we consider it necessary.

For registration and all questions, contact Owlcat CM Starrok (Starrok on Discord or u/OwlcatStarrok on Reddit), or Owlcat CM Nathillien (Nathillien on Discord or u/OwlcatNathillien on Reddit).

Registration will remain open until October 14.

Victory conditions
Winner is determined by beating the game or reaching the furthest Act without the player’s party ever being defeated.
If multiple players have reached the same act or have beaten the game, tiebreakers are resolved by the number of quests completed (you can check completed quests in the journal).
If still tied, the victory is determined in favor of the player who spent the least in-game time on their playthrough.

The challenge will begin on 00:00 GMT October 22, and last for 2 weeks until 23:59 GMT November 4, or until all players have successfully completed their playthroughs or were eliminated.

And remember: in the Grim Darkness of the far future, there is only one winner, and their feat will be rewarded with a unique prize!

In-game Rules

Grim Darkness mode must be enabled;
Daring Difficulty must be enabled;
Void Shadows DLC must be installed and enabled;
All free and cosmetic DLCs can be enabled;
Any background or character-selection choices are allowed;
Any ship type is allowed;
Only single player is allowed;
No mercenaries are allowed (only story companions);
No mods can be used;
It is prohibited to shutdown or alter the game in any way in order to prevent a death, make a different choice, or redo a skillcheck. Live with the consequences of your choices!

Technical Requirements

After each game session, the participant must upload the following stats to the provided Discord channel:
- Time played this session;
- Total time played in campaign;
- Current Act # reached
- Number of completed quests (visible in the quest log)
- Party setup that was used most of the time for this session (companions and archetypes). Builds don't need to be uploaded, but must be available on request.

Playthroughs must happen strictly LIVE, with the streams and their records saved in case a need arises to check them. If you have connection issues, please save the game and continue when your connection is restored.

All participants must manually make a backup of their save after every session (by default it is located in C:\Users\ <username> \AppData\LocalLow\Owlcat Games\Warhammer 40000 Rogue Trader) to prevent unexpected progress loss due to power outages, Steam Cloud issues, bugs, and other force majeure factors.

If continuing or finishing the playthrough is impossible due to a non-gameplay related reason (a bug, power failure, hardware or software issues, etc.), contact the organizers. We may be able to let you continue from a previous backed-up save or restart the game, depending on the circumstances.

We strongly urge all participants to use the #GrimDarknessChallenge hashtag in their media.

Cheating and Exploits

It is forbidden to exploit bugs and a clearly unintended use of game mechanics to gain a gameplay advantage. If you are in doubt as to whether the situation can be classified as such, contact the organizers.
No mods or external software may be used to modify the game or save or to alter them in any way.

Participants who break any of the rules above may be disqualified at the organizers' discretion.

Good luck!

Combat is either a waste of time or autistic dream depending on your difficulty setting. Story is good, game has many great scenes where you get to throw your weight around, executing people left and right. Replayability looks high. Some recommendations

Mod the game with toy box, redress, the reshade mod if your pc can handle it. Reshade makes the game look nice, redress let's you use any origin outfit you want (commissar obviously).

Try not to save scum, failures actually do continue the story in a new direction(ish). Play on hard if you are any good at rpg games. Play on unfair once you get a grip on the system or do your first restart.

Keep a cool pistol in your main hand so when you execute people you do it with style, I use a Plasma pistol myself.

If you're reading this forum you should probably start on hard then switch to unfair after a few hours when you're comfortable with the game
