Junior Adventurer's Guild - September: Icewind Dale
I usually refrain from partaking because with my health I can never know how long will it take me to do anything, but I would like to give this one a try, especially because I really loved the 2nd one and was looking forward to playing the first one. Is there a time limit I should be aware of or it's just "choice game of September"? From the Adventurer's Guild info thread it seems the "within the month" is just for the badge-thing, am I correct? Regardless I will try to complete it within September, but I will prioritize my enjoyment if I see I am taking a long time with exploration and reading dialogues, so it could very well take me much longer.

There's no time limit. Games are just chosen each month to give people time to keep up and play with each other.DagothGeas5 wrote: ↑ September 7th, 2024, 03:14I usually refrain from partaking because with my health I can never know how long will it take me to do anything, but I would like to give this one a try, especially because I really loved the 2nd one and was looking forward to playing the first one. Managed to beat that snake as our spells ran dry. Even with the appropriate magic weapons you really need to pour it on during that battle. Also, rushing into the room only to trigger a bunch of traps was both hilarious and devastating.

My thief has successfully dual classed into a fighter and is starting to become an actual threat to the enemy. Despite the warning during character creation I'm specializing him with proficiency in katanas. Hopefully I can find a second named magical blade to go with along with the Darkened Glory +2.

I wasn't expecting it but both the Skald and Bard songs appear to stack. The increased accuracy bonus from 'The Ballad of Three Heroes' combined with the Skald's song has really been making a difference.
I'm running vanilla Enhanced Edition, although perhaps that could be considered a mod itself

As I tend to do when given the option, I've gone with the default party.
Was the 'Berserker' kit available in regular IWD?

I think the Berserker fighter kit was added in the Enhanced Edition. I may be confusing it with the Barbarian though.

The only mod you need is IWD NPCs for all your romances.
https://www.pocketplane.net/icewind-dale-npcs/
The only "necessary" mod I would say is Tweaks Anthology, and only for a few QoL components.
https://www.gibberlings3.net/mods/tweaks/tweaks/
I'm using Artisan's Kitpack just to try out some new kits, but they are kind of OP for this game (probably not for BG2 though).
No, original IWD had only Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Mage, Paladin, Ranger, and Thief, plus multi-classes. It also had more generalized weapon proficiencies (e.g. just Bows, not long- and shortbows separate) and no weapon styles. I believe that one of subtledoctor's mods (maybe Scales of Balance?) has a component to revert to that system.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ September 7th, 2024, 03:39As I tend to do when given the option, I've gone with the default party.

Yes, this is one of those "secrets" that is really powerful. You can also have a bard simulacrum sing unless they patched that out of EE.SpellSword wrote: ↑ September 7th, 2024, 03:38I wasn't expecting it but both the Skald and Bard songs appear to stack. For IWD1, yes. IWD2 has several premade parties, each created by one of the designers. Sawyer's was the evil party, I forget the name.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ September 7th, 2024, 04:17Was the premade party an EEism then?Acrux wrote: ↑ September 7th, 2024, 04:04No, original IWD had only Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Mage, Paladin, Ranger, and Thief, plus multi-classes. I've played a bit of Arcanum and BG 1 but never finished them.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ September 6th, 2024, 22:21Have you played BG or anything similar before?swbgtoc wrote: ↑ September 6th, 2024, 20:59Just installed the game, I'll start tomorrow. It's been on my backlog for a long time, I used to watch my brother play it when I was a kid, the inventory screen is engraved in my mind.
Just finished making my party after battling with the error 0xc000007b . For anyone having this same issue and is reading this, in my case the issue was with OpenAL. I had to uninstall it, restart the pc, and then re-install OpenAL for the game to work.
I tried to take a screen but it blocks out the thing with the menu logo, so the party can only be seen on the right corner of the screen.

It has been quite a while since I played a game like this, and my jaw honestly hurts from how much I have been smiling, especially at the intro with the book.
Also love hearing Baeloth's voice. I know he is from the EE thing, but I really liked him as a character. Hope he can regale me more with his atrocious allitterations even if in voice format only, thus far he has not disappointed with the personality.
I am playing with the default settings for difficulty, no Story nor Hardcore mode. I wonder if there will be the likes of Chahopek here!

Could anyone tell me the best investment for the yeti pelts? The guy that runs into Kuldahar from the bridge told of two options, but I can only recall one (selling to the blacksmith, which, though, would be selling at 10 golds less as a price compared to the general goods store, even though he does not accept the item). I recall him saying I could bring them to someone that could make something out of them, but I have no idea who to look for, the only other store is the potter, and he is closed down.

Give 10 yeti pelts to Orrick the Gray in his tower in Kuldahar along with 2500 gold to get Yeti Hide Armor +1 (This is Enhanced Edition only tho, as far as I know)DagothGeas5 wrote:Could anyone tell me the best investment for the yeti pelts? Not sure if it worth the price, but every pelt after that you sell.

The yeti armor was taken from the Item Upgrade for Icewind Dale mod. I do not know if it was cut content or not, however.
I suppose someone could try asking Sawyer and see if he remembers.

The pelts are greyed out for me and I cannot sell them to him, am I missing something? Have been yeti hunting for fun, but now the pelts are starting to take up a lot of weight, not gonna lie XDAcrux wrote: ↑ September 8th, 2024, 12:46The armor is so-so. I will play it. I absolutely love this game.

I'm just stating the facts.

If you mean the blacksmith yes I am aware, but I wanted to get the best price I could for them because he buys them for 50 gold, while Oswald would buy them for 80 and the general goods seller would buy them for 60, but both are greyed out for me.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ September 8th, 2024, 13:56Conlan buys them.DagothGeas5 wrote: ↑ September 8th, 2024, 13:54The pelts are greyed out for me and I cannot sell them to him, am I missing something? I'm normally unfazed by vidya spiders but the Infinity Engine spiders all scare the **** out of me, especially the phase spiders. I hate how fast they move and attack!
Wanted to ask something about the undead crypt. If I were to... say... attack the undead spirit at the end of the crypt now that I am finished with it and the Arch-druid is sending the party on to other lands, would it break the main quest or anything like it if I did so? I like the dude, but I would like to test my mettle against him, yet I fear I will end up in a situation like I had with Icewind Dale II where I was stuck because my party, can't recall the specifics, killed Oswald.
