they start trying to insert irl politics, sex, and other junk into the game
I once played in an online group with a guy who picked a really gay looking piece of art for his snakeman character. I was under the impression he had been unable to find anything better, so I searched diligently and found him some alternatives. He rejected them, saying he was satisfied with the one he had chosen. I found out later he was an ERPer and that that's how the GM had met him...

Paging @Ratcatcher to correct the record.
What do you mean? Our group has been anything but warm and welcoming towards our heterosexuality-challenged members. Just ask @asf .

I only briefly skimmed the thread. Never play with randos. Never make public thread anouncements when setting up groups. Only rely on personal selection or endorsment from someone that's already at the table.

This way it will take ages to find a group, maybe. Once you're set you have surpassed the tallest hill (after finding a decent, willing GM that puts in the effort) and the rest is coasting through fun.

Playing with randos only used to work at conventions, with similarly minded players that actually care about the randomness of it. It takes a GM with cojones to pull it off, a very particular adventure and tournament rules. half the stuff in that 40 items list of which I can only see 16 is actually the kind of rules you used to enforce during tournaments. Imagine playing like that with your bros and fren, lmao. Pnp is about fun, emergent situations, narrative and sociality. It's impossible to keep a group tight like that, especially when the people are actually having fun. They will naturally crack jokes and lose themselves in wacky plans. As a GM you're there to provide reactivity, narrative and challenge in a neutral way. You're not supposed to play spoilsport (altho it is allowed, even encouraged to gloat when your players fail their rolls or monster succeed.)

edit: to explicitly correct the record, Tweed presented me with one of the more acceptable and fitting avatars for the adventure at hand and has been anything but perfectly in-character for as long as we played. He's also not a scalie (I think).

I can roleplay better (really, I swear!), but everyone seems to be going pretty light right now and never have I ever tried to yiff anyone. Someone else keeps trying to hit on the jellyfish monsters trying to kill us.

I know. There will be differently assembled groups in the future where you'll be able to do it much more. As usual, the attitude and composition of a gaming group is what sets the pace and the playstyle. As a GM, I only try to discipline the game if it gets derailed or there is some serious (player) infighting. Forcing people to take it seriously never works, aiming to have fun is the goal, always.

This particualr adventure could be moody and RP heavy, since it's thick with NPCs, for how little it extends. Asf took it very lightly, starting from the naming of his char. At least one of our added companion played this immediately after another adventure of mine that was indeed written as a b-movie script of sort with explicit comedic inserts and a bit of a less serious premise. T'was una tantum but I guess he assumed that's how I roll.

Remember, the next step of the plan is to force/shame/trick Rusty into it and have him take it seriously.

Perhaps the best introduction to any RPG's combat I've seen.
Image

Using the comic panels to break up the combat into small scenes to make it easier to understand was a very neat idea.

#15 and #16 should be every table's rule 1 and rule 2.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

I've been bidding on rogue trader and 2nd ed marines for a little less than a year. Got a 2nd ed necron lord in one lot. I'd like to make stls of them, but I wonder if the lead ones luster too much to catch the details in scanning.

I like how swingy 2nd ed battles are, there's room for interpreting powers, and that fit 40K really well. I'm curious how different 3rd and 4th will be, when I can find some reports with players who don't annoy me.

Anyone’s thoughts on World of Darkness( original) and Chronicles of Darkness (reboot) main line books? I’m primary only touched Mage:The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition but I heard that opinions have been divisive between the two book lines.

Personally not a fan of Chronicles of Darkness from what I seen since it removes a lot of the meta plots and greater focus on street level stories and cuts a lot of houses/factions.

Something interesting to note is how few early tabletop RPGs were fantasy. I think the plurality was actually space sci-fi until the early 80s.

Meh. It was a downgrade in almost all aspects however it did streamline the mechanics to be lot more manageable since admittedly its quite cumbersome at times.

Used extra Zombies to represent Banshees ( I think? ) instead of the actual Banshee models. Colored accordingly.
