Inspired by this post, let's compile a series of safe, regurgitated opinions that are taken for granted and almost always repeated without any thought because they've become accepted clichés that prove you're a real gamer in the know. Some of them might've started as contrarianisms that eventually became consensus, others have always been accepted as true from day 1 despite being false. I'll start with a few:
Sonic was never good (the one that inspired the thread)
Multidirectional whip in Super Castlevania IV ruined the series' gameplay
I have to say that it is refreshing to see a company actually CARE about what
is being said about their product in the Usenet. Thanks for the info and you
are dampening the rumor mill that starts up in the absence of direct info on
games.
All I would like to add to the 'wish list' is a way to 'lock' your view on an
enemy or object. (Maybe even just recenter the view parallel with the ground)
With a full 3D environment having the ability to automatically center your
view on the nearest enemy (or nearest attacker) would be nice.... just a
thought from a RPG player who plays a lot of military flight sims.
Also, the conflation of 5e popularity with any notion of 'good' character building or combat.
Ocarina of Time is easily the best console game though. Just as Deus Ex is clearly the best PC game. And that's unlikely to change any time soon due to market pressures like in-game stores and the significantly lower quality of those currently working as game devs.
Zelda is ****. All of them. The best console game is either a jrpg or japtac game.
Most of the games are victims of bad development cycles, for example Wind Waker had to be rushed to meet the deadline so two whole dungeons were cut, as well as a larger version of the sunken Hyrule. I can understand the games not being appealing to some, if you dislike puzzles especially, but they have a lot going for them and Ocarina of Time paved the way for a lot of advancements in how 3D games were designed.
Arcanum along with Darklands are both unfinished turds. When a game is an unfinished buggy mess we can just use our imagination to fill in the blanks and pretend it's good.
Invisible War wasn't a bad game, it was just a bad Deus Ex game.
I actually agreed with this when it was new. Even made the claim that it's a great game on the codex. Then I started to do a new playthrough and take notes to show everyone it's actually good but for some reason I hated it that time.
To add to the thread: SMT **** saying Persona is ****.

It's a Deus Ex game subjected to unreasonable constraints (level size and real-time lighting).
Your mom told you its manly to think in her basement, but she just doesn't want you hurting yourself outside.
My mother is charcoal Lieberal. Why are you projecting your own mother's hatred of you onto me? Jesus I get that you survived an abortion when she was pregnant with you, but you don't have to take it out on me. Seems like the abortionist got the best part which was thinking area of your brain.
