Tale of immortal

Post by Lhynn »

Started playing this recently. Procedurally generated world and npcs, its a cultivation journey simulation. Complexity is the name of the game, with all sorts of events and hidden rolls and ****. Leveling up can be simple or hard, harder paths being rewarded with better stats, the leveling system also involves a lot of exploring, as you gain experience through events or by finding spots rich in Qi and cultivating there for a few days, so it is very different, very interesting.

There are 10 different styles, your starting proficiency with them varies depending on your character and the choice of destinies at character creation, but it can be developed through consuming items or random encounters, your highest proficiency tends to get special events, and they are all very different.

So far Im enjoying it immensely

I've seen a few games that look like this "type", I'm not sure what the genre is or if it even has a coherent genre rather than a genre mashup. But it looks neat, I should try one at some point.

Figured out why Lhynn likes it though :smug:

How's the English? I'm also seeing reviews from a couple years ago in Japanese saying that the developer made people use third party software to add mods and, typical of Chinese software, it snooped on user data.

English is good, doesnt feel MTL.

Had a great adventure. Woman saw me fight in a tournament, her reaction towards me was fairly positive. Many people saw me win that tournament, but apparently she paid more attention than anyone else.

Found her on a tavern, flirted with her, we bonded, then we "dual cultivated". That was that, or so I thought, months later husband shows up, tells me to break it up. I ignore him. Find the woman again months later, shes alone in a bench, we talk, husband shows up, beats the **** out of me, he is a whole big realm above mine.

I thought that was that.

Month later, woman was killed by her ex-husband.

This wasnt a single scripted event, just what happens if you mess with a married woman. Next time Ill go with one that has a husband on my own realm. Dual cultivation is important, its how you get skillpoints, need those to beat people above my realm.

Another thing, I want to get strong and go kill that ******. Though he is at the top of his realm, and he is the best blade martial artist in the whole continent, so he isnt going to be easy.

What are these cultivation games? I've seen them mentioned a few times, but I'm not sure I understand how it works. It looks like ARPG combat with a strategic(?) overland map. Is that accurate? Is it just sandbox or is there an actual structure to the game?

Also, a lot of the reviews are saying that you can't even start the game without removing a dll. Which, okay, not a huge deal but it's weird the devs won't fix that.

Is this game like Sands of Salzaar? From a cursory view they look very similar.

In a way, they are based on cultivation novels, which is a whole genre in chinese literature, a very popular genre.

Imagine a world in which people can become wizards, so most do. How strong of a wizard you are is everything, its your status. So you start out as this weak and inexperienced cultivator in this big world full of monsters where people only admire and pursue power for the most part.

So in these worlds there are realms of power, usually starting with mortal and finishing up with becoming a god, truly immortal. And every level up, or "breakthrough" can take a long time, its something you have to work towards, and the differences in power between each realm are massive.

So yeah, the main characters journey in this world, making allies, enemies, finding love, seeing the wonders of a magical world, etc.

The backbone or structure of the game is every one of these breakthroughs, the more powerful you become the need to move on to richer areas with more dangers grows.

In this world there are sects, basically wizard schools with different specializations. You join them, you work your way up, you are allowed to exchange your contribution for goodies to help you in your cultivation journey. And there are wizards called rogue cultivators, which dont join a school and just try their luck in the wilderness.

In the books you have overarching themes, like fatherhood, friendship, loyalty, law vs evil, etc. So its not just dragon ball Z. And these themes translate to most wuxia games, character relationships are always a mechanic, very important.

As for the gameplay on this one, think of The guild 1 meets skyrim meets diablo.

No, sands of salzaar has no cultivation, its kinda like mount and blade but combat is done with a top down view. Also its fantasy, less swords and more spells.
