Your Favorite cRPG of All Time
Your Favorite cRPG of All Time
What is your favorite cRPG?
If you don't know what a cRPG is, you're on the wrong forum. It has these characteristics:
A cRPG would be something that is like a tabletop RPG (like Advanced Dungeons & Dragons). Examples of this genre could be Baldur's Gate or Rogue. You create a character or characters, select a name and one of the two genders. There may be a variety of character types, often known as classes, which you could pick. Points are distributed into different abilities and skills. There may be something known as "levels" which measure the effectiveness of your character(s) and other creatures in the game world. There's an element of randomization to most actions that you try to perform, resulting in success or failure. You might get together with a few friends and fight things, explore places, and plunder everything which isn't nailed down. Other characters than your own (i.e. non-player characters; npcs) may be non-hostile on occasion and you could try to talk to them. Some of these may have tasks for you. You roll dice. Numbers on character sheets go up or down.
Before you submit a game, ask yourself the two questions below:
1.) Is your game described as some form of role-playing game by the developers? Does it say RPG somewhere on the box? If the answer is yes, you're on the right track.
2.) Is your game like what I described in cursive above? If the answer is yes, it will probably be added to our list.
You may pick a single game.
You can't pick multiple games in one go (Ex. Wizardry 1-8 won't work) and you can't pick mods (Ex. Even if you only play Skyrim with modification X, your choice would still translate to Skyrim). Expansions and horse armor DLCs aren't factors either. Just pick one (1) cRPG.
Consider this thread a companion to The RPG Ranking Thread. I expect that the RPGHQ picks will differ here, since you won't have multiple choices.

Probably Bloodlines. Unless that's an immersive sim.

If we're still here when that happens, sure. Heh.
If you or the developers say it's a cRPG, I'll treat it as such.
Dragon Age: Origins
Not sure what the best of all time is but this is my most memorable so far. I have a huge backlog to get through now from my other thread.

I changed the first post.
It now says "What's your favorite cRPG?" instead. If you need to change your pick, please let me know in a new post. If you hate me for using best and favorite as interchangable terms, let me know.

Okay, it's an immersive sim so nobody else can pick it either.Hauberk wrote: ↑ August 25th, 2024, 19:41If we're still here when that happens, sure. Heh.

I'll have to go with Fallout 1. It was my introduction to the genre, and to this day I consider it the gold standard when it comes to design philosophy, art direction and worldbuilding.
It's a game with plenty of faults, but I still love it dearly.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

"Your Favorite cRPG of All Time?"
That would be Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss. The three evils that humanity faces:
Censorship
Telemetry
DRM
That would be an eRPG.
genuinely don't know.
hence why my choices in the other thread were ********
just haven't found that rpg for me yet

Okay. I should have seen this coming. I wouldn't consider the Zelda games cRPGs in the least myself because if they are, so is Call of Duty (I had to look up Twilight Princess).Nooneatall wrote: ↑ August 26th, 2024, 01:28**** this is a hard question. I'm changing the criteria for what a cRPG is, again:
1.) Is your game described as some form of role-playing game by the developers? Does it say RPG somewhere on the box? If the answer is yes, you're on the right track.
2.) Is your game like what I described in cursive above? If the answer is yes, it will probably be added to our list.
I will alter the list to reflect this a little later. This means that Twilight Princess and Call of Duty will go. Please update your choices: @Oyster Sauce @boot @asf @maidenhaver
