Wow may be the most boring MMO I've ever played. What's the appeal?
Nostalgia and stockholm syndrome. Most WoW players played it as a kid so they didn't know any better and now they're 30 year old men desperate to feel something again.
I long for that Vanilla game setting (Not actually playing Vanilla though, **** that).
The thought of going to Shimmering Flats or Elwynn Forest.. things were simple, good music, fun mechanics.

Now the game is like "DIE AND GO TO HELL THEN TAKE A SPACESHIP BACK IN TIME AND FIGHT CTHULU VOID GOD DRAGON!!" with the same recycled **** of Level > Raid. It's tired, the game is tired - the story is tired and the setting is tired.

If Blizzard could still make good games and made a WoW2, I'd play it but the thought of installing WoW today and playing gives me nausea.
psst, private servers (no pozz, vanilla/wotlk, and free)

Filled with Brazilians and Ego Tripping DM's who do it for free. I'd pay a sub to avoid that.

Completed the main story of the first two zones. These were made very much in the template of Shadowlands/Dragonflight. A plot about bringing together a variety of creatures that look like they stepped off of a pride parade float in Portland that would be mortal enemies under slightly different circumstances into a family. Multiple plots about old men being succeeded by more capable women. A barrage of proper nouns and terminology before you care about the characters or circumstances. Subversion of a cool concept that people were looking forward to (afterlife, dragons, dwarves) and the (again) insinuation that they aren't cool because they are malfunctioning robots.

The limited cameo appearances of the title card characters in these first two zones makes it seem pretty clear that they were already very far in production by the time that they decided to make this part of a trilogy.

The environmental art is pretty good. The dwarven buildings look dwarven. The zones are visually pleasant to fly around in. Character art is another story. It seems like every named character design had a pass where the art director said "make it look more gay" and they added a bright purple coat to an otherwise stern old character or a modern haircut for no reason or a beard on a woman for the message.

Just starting the third zone now. Expecting more of the same.

One thing that I will give them credit for is the incorporation of dungeons into the questing experience. Via the solo queue and delves systems the completion of an instance serves as a good way to cap off an important questline by providing a change of environment and removing the flying mounts from the equation.

I haven't payed for a Blizzard product since they added WoW tokens to the game. Gathering profession in the first week of an expansion pays for the next one and Starcraft or whatever.

Finished the campaign. Was expecting more of a gathering allies to fight spiders thing, but the last zone feels like it was developed independently because there are actually 3 factions of spider rebels that you band together into something that appears to be trying to recreate the Suramar zone.

I think they should have paid off one of the main character development arcs instead of all setup and holding conclusions until patch/renown content.

The number of stupid currencies in the game is again high and I don't see how they can see that as aligned with their overall casual friendly stance.

Story sounds like garbage as expected. How is the gameplay? The hero talents? The delves? The new BG?

I only did one delve so far. I liked it, will do the rest.

Hero talents are fine. Turned my defensive cooldown into an offensive one too. Also makes Fel Devastation a button I want to press. Some people might complain about that but I don't want more button bloat. Pretty clear my class was not worked on first since the visual looks like something done in a day.

Blizzard's marketing lied about when Earthen would be available. It's not possible to unlock them in the game right now. If you have all of the requirements complete there's a time-gated step that remains.

I submitted a refund request for the early access cost since the marketing was very explicit. Their support is so slow that early access will be over by the time the AI chatbot responds to say no.

In a surprising turn of events, they have already responded and refunded the early access fee while also claiming that no refunds are allowed. The corporate version of admitting fault without sacrificing the double-speak.

I want know how many Earthern players are actually going to put beards on the female Earthen. Just like I want to know how many people actually use dark-skinned dreadlocked elves and humans. Show me the numbers Blizzard, show me how many players are using these options.

If the company can gate endgame progression so it is a flexible start time instead of a material advantage I think it's a good idea. The real-world alternative is login queues, overcrowding, and laggy gameplay.

Ironically, I think early access for other games is worse.

They already solved this issue on the classic servers with dynamic instancing.
Hell, Runescape solved this over 20 years ago by just having characters not tied to servers and able to dynamically add more servers to meet demand.

Uhm, Excuse you Chuds - I don't work for money to pay for these games.

Instead I work in a game to gather tokens to pay for game time so I can give Blizzard money and feel less guilty about it.

In the real world players still see login queues because companies would rather have full servers than spend more money for a temporary problem that leads to free marketing.
