A cult was created around the idea of "super HARD!!!!" games that dork souls was the spear of, arguably a genre dork souls itself doesn't even fit into anymore. DS1 isn't a boss rush game, it's not that difficult, it's about the exploration and world.
Yes, getting rid of the handholding in games is a good thing. I quit games when I start getting tutorial prompts everytime I do anything. Making every game a dodgeroll boss rush with enemies flying around like they have a jetpack on their back is just the other extreme taken to ****** levels.

[edit]
syntheticman complained about this a while back, and while I hate getting my opinions from YOOOOTOOOBERS, he was right. The thing I hate the most about these games is everyone is your enemy, all you do is go around and kill everything. It's repetitive and turns your mind into mush. Actual RPGs are interesting because there's a lot of dynamics to the worldbuilding, not every person you meet is your enemy.

Perhaps to some degree this is why many don't consider Diablo 2 & the subgenre it spawned to be 'true RPGs' either. Altho the resistance definitely died down over the years, many rejected giving it the 'RPG' label at the time because it was just too simplistic, they were "hack and slashes"

Your first mistake is thinking Dark Souls and its ilk are RPGs - they're dungeon-crawlers with an emphasis on action. Some clones try to mix things up, and some have somewhat involved quest chains, but at the end of the day the games are primarily about character builds and fighting.

As for them being difficult, that's primarily down to the fact most players are on the intellectual level of ******* and are incapable of learning what the game is trying to teach them.

I was shocked reading a Reddit thread about Lies of P where one of the subhumans repeated a boss (Fuoco in the factory level) 54 times. I managed to defeat the boss on the second try, and I'm not exactly what you'd call a maestro at these games. Even the most basic application of critical thinking skills is enough to get you through most of these games.

The earlier From games were definitely at least JRPGs, the newer ones are barely even action games with RPG elements.

Could someone explain to me why this game was so hated before it came out? Because it was about a mythological monkey character or something and nignogs thought that meant the slants were making fun of them? I don't understand what the problem is. This looks so basic ***** that I don't see how anyone could be offended by it.

I'm offended by it because all the people I know that are excited about it are fencesitting normies.

"Wukong is so cool dude! He has an extending staff wow! He punches gods! Yea dude this game is going to be so sick!"

Someone at work showed me a 2 min video of the opening fight of this game, it was 30 seconds of attack spam followed by 90 seconds of non-interactice cinematics.

Final verdict of God of War (old dad edition) boring ****** cinematic game, this game looks exactly the same while pushing Chinese gnostism.

What I find funny is how a game where you play as a mythology monkey is the most played game ever on Steam. Meanwhile every ******* game made with lesbians, ********, feminism, girl bosses, race swaps, "black girl magic", and emasculated male leads have all bombed and lost money despite the fact that they all had the backing of BlackRock behind them.

Turns out the only people that care about representation and "being seen" are attention starved liberal women and homosexuals.

Important to note the people on here who see a non-woke game free of degeneracy smashing records and immediately go out of their way to trash on it for mundane reasons, especially with us being in the middle of a libtard cultural revolution of gaming right now. Not a good look!

"mundane reasons"
it's a mundane game, this might surprise you because you're like 13 but we used to get 7 of these a week. Hell, we still get that many soulslop games a day, this one just happens to have 8k textures.

I really do believe you're a *****, because you have that smug thirdworld misplaced patriotism in any product made by your country no matter how **** or average it is. If this same exact game was made in a western country, it would have topped out at 30-50k players because it's average. You know, like the dozens of higher budget soulslop clones peaked at.

Notice how I have never been active in this thread until now yet you've already made 15 posts complaining about the Chinese or something since its inception. I won't even play the game, I don't play these types of game, but you obviously care to immediately respond to any positive spin people have on it like this.

And I ain't a "chang." I'll always be more American than some 3rd generation immigrant of mixed paddy, german, and polish descent like you whose role in this country has always been to be a shabbos goy.

You equating criticism of a mediocre knockoff of a superior 15 year old japanese game with criticism of china is how I know you're at least a hapa.

The door has to swing back in the opposite direction. It's not just going to appear there.

Or pendulum or whatever.

Things are not superior just because they are new dear rusty. If that was the case then your website would look very different I bet.

Personally I'll take a well executed paint by numbers picture over the post-modern slop that is so ubiquitous today.

People need to remember that a game, build by professionals who learned from earlier efforts, can be as great if not greater as the next new thing. This obsession with novelty needs to die already.

There is a reason why so many soulslike games still ended up good: the were built on a solid foundation by people who actually knew what they were doing.

Do people that like souls-like like the combat style or is it something else that draws them in? I can notice the similarities in a few (3rd person over the shoulder combat, dodging, strategies, parrying, etc, often paired with a "bleak" or somber setting), but they all seem to have their own twists to it that I can't really tell in the end, especially with the likes of Elden Ring, which seems like an open world from what I've seen. I would have called these games "action adventures" myself, what sets them apart from the rest?
is this game even a soul-like? I thought it was supposed to be more like Devil May Cry and those vein of hack and slashes

I have no idea, I was asking because I barely can differentiate what genre a game is or isn't and I saw it being categorized as "souls-like" in the Steam thing. I personally don't trust categories these days.

Even if you don't care for souls-likes, you should be glad to see studios be hugely successful delivering titles that don't bow to the demands of the woke mob.

I heard it's less of a souls-like and more like GoW, or DmC, so if you don't consider souls-likes to be RPGs, this game definitely isn't one either.

Why would they bow to demands(by whom? are we still pretending some random social media post was real?) when it's not even from their core audience?
KCD did it years prior and when it was from the people they were actually marketing the game towards. KCD was actually good, too, so there's that.
