Loghain was the good guy, actually.

For discussing role-playing video games, you know, the ones with combat.

Looks like Im on the right site!!
TES3 MORROWIND pwns the rest easy with 42 pts vs 29 second place dragon age which sucked in my opinion. whats with the leilana companion looking exacly like imoen from baldurs gate 2? also the main enemy is just a tired stand in for orcs Guess they were fresh out of ideas!

Is it possible to vote for morrowind five times lol @jordy
The darkspawn were a backdrop macro threat to the actual adventure dealing with the Antagonist, Loghain.

Yes, and my point stands.

The cliche "big bad horde will ruin the world" in the darkspawn provides a nice backdrop to the the personal threat of Loghain. Without the darkspawn, the stakes would be lower and all challenges faced because of him pale in comparison. Darkspawn tie the story together, but are not the main antagonist.

if i go to the store to buy groceries and some ****** shits on the floor in the dairy isle and i have to wait 10 min for the jannies to mop it up my shopping trip isn't a backdrop to the floor shitter. my goal is to buy groceries, my purpose is to buy groceries, my intent is to buy groceries, the ****** making that harder does not make the ****** my true goal. stop watching video essays about how humans are the real monsters

Yeah he had a really good plan where he decided to kill every single person who had undergone magical rites to be able to actually kill the otherwise immortal dragon that led an infinite army of horrific monsters. The darkspawn conquering the entire nation including the capital city was all according to keikaku.

They had zero chance to stop the blight, it's not something that can be won by arms. OTOH, Orlais was poised to invade the moment they got wiped out. Back when Orlais was meant to be malevolent rather than funny-french-accent-black-people

There was only a handful of wardens present, many of them just recently joined. Grey Wardens were previously banished from Ferelden, they'd have to march there, which they didn't have enough time to do.
Again, Loghain was right.

Counter-point: The guy who recently joined the Grey Wardens went and killed the archdemon and stopped the invasion. This actually happens in the game if you pay close enough attention.

So you're saying that Loghain is responsible for stopping the blight by not marching the main character to his death?

Also, whose stupid idea was to ambush enemies that have no concept of morale and would never rout? The entire point of charging into the flank is to cause the enemy to rout.

they would have won the battle in he joined anyways so it doesn't even matter. plus morrigan's mom would have just magicked you out of the battle before you died anyways

Even with Loghain's army, they were outnumbered 3:1(this is stated ingame.) The archdemon was nowhere near Ostagar, as you learn during Paragon of Her Kind which happens far later. At best, a victory would have meant sacrificing most of your army to defeat enemies that are rapidly replenished. Woohoo!

holding off the darkspawn at ostagar would give more time to get more wardens and troops, it would also give the new wardens and troops experience fighting against them. there is the fact that they have already won multiple battle against the darkspawn as stated by the king directly. it is made very clear that the only reason they lost is because loghain wanted his crown. also if i remember correctly he was in cahoots with howe actively weakening the kingdom during a crisis

****** even if I accept your assessment (it's wrong), by definition he is still a threat to you. Go back to plebbit you have a lot more leveling up to do

And no, he didn't do all of this because he thinks he's some "9000 iq ultra genius". All he sees is a major threat from Orlais (completely justified), does all he can to settle things down in the land, and wants to go fight the beginning of this blight. Everything he's doing makes sense in his perspective because no one knows the true need for Grey Wardens.

Nowhere did I say he's a monster, by definition he's a threat, and you have the reading comprehension of a fruit fly. He is the antagonist of your journey, with Dark Spawn being a threat on the macro level. They complement eachother.
