1, 2 and 3 are coming up as 'roguelike'. Do these count as RPGs?

@rusty_shackleford Sorry for the tag but you've been good with stuff like this so far.

Roguelikes are RPGs. If something claims to be a roguelike but isn't an RPG, it's not using the genre label properly.
#3 isn't a roguelike tho, #5 is.

Sorry I meant 5 instead of 3 but doesn't matter now. Thanks for clearing that up.

Table updated. I think most people have posted their rankings now as it seems to slow down so I'll probably update this once a week if needed.

I am not big on RPGs but in order of time sunk per game:

1. Diablo I(ts not a real RPG) (as a stand-in for other ARPGs)
2. The Boring Scrolls: Morrowfallionrim (as a stand-in for TES games)
3. Fartout (again, all of them)
4. Neverfun Nights (ditto)
5. The Twitcher (ditto)

Not sure about twitcher and neverfun knights.. may be the other way around.

After some further deliberation I'm just going to say

1. FALLOUT (1997).

My picks for 2 and 3 were:

The Age of Decadence (2015) & Baldur's Gate (1998)

While the former may be a bit stale in places, it features an interesting, underused setting, is a favorite of mine, is better than FALLOUT in many departments and is probably the best cRPG ever made as your character's effectiveness really depends on your attributes and skills for once, I'm not going to include it out of spite since Colon Ship (2023) yes, COLON Ship was such a massive disappointment.

The latter is a great game and probably the best D&D cRPG evar, but is it really a good RPG? ...Not really, it's pretty dumb in places and there's little reactivity when it comes to character statistics, c&c etc. So I can't include that one either.

Now 4 and 5 is where it got even more tricky for me. Fallout 2 (1998) is a typical sequel extra everything, refined system, asset flip, meh story, easter eggs lolz0rz. Baldur's Gate 2 (2000) isn't and it expands on BG in a good way, but honestly it's like mentioning the same game twice so no, can't do it. Then we have games like Morrowind (2002) which I liked; especially the unique setting but also the free-form abusive fun you could have with the magic system, but I haven't played that one (and others like it) since the early 00's.
So what should I pick? One of the Mass Effects (2007, 2010, 2012)? Sure, I had fun when I played all three games back to back sometime in the early 10's but I haven't played them since and they're really gay at times. Ugh.

...So I guess I'll just pick one.

The COLON Ship was shat out by Vince last year after sailing his bowels for seven years. Featuring FROGS, ******* and ****** in space. @Kalin was right.

TES3 MORROWIND pwns the rest easy with 42 pts vs 29 second place dragon age which sucked in my opinion. whats with the leilana companion looking exacly like imoen from baldurs gate 2? also the main enemy is just a tired stand in for orcs Guess they were fresh out of ideas!

That's fine. If someone wants to create a separate ranking thread for only certain types of RPGs that could be cool.

Eh, just redirect them to https://rpgcodex.net/content.php?id=9453

I'd add a few recent titles like Jupiter Hell, Kenshi, etc. but that's about it.
