I played this for a few minutes after the demo became available and got REALLY confused as to where the hype comes from. Simplistic gameplay, uninspired monsters, generic dungeon. What's here to like about this game? This looks like one of the many asset flips on steam that somehow became successful for completely lolrandom reasons. Also, the way this game monetizes is SO predatory it puts EA to shame.
The hype comes from PvP. After a few hours the pve becomes trivial, but if you go into HR dungeons or ‘hell’ the pve enemies get much harder, plus some of the bosses have pretty cool mechanics.

Is it normal to get killed within the first 5 mins on every dungeon dive?
Did you start Elden Ring by mistake, perhaps?

early access isn't a demo and Dark and Darker wasn't on steam or free until like the last month. Dungeonborne had an actual demo though

he means how it's free to demo, where you get limited access to all the features of the game.

or, alternatively, he's referring to earlier stages of the game from over the past year where you could say it was in more of a demo phase.

also btw i love seshing this game and would be down to have a crack with ya

Heard it has extremely invasive anti-cheat. Apparently scans all files on your entire drives?
People's HDDs have been going bonkers and running constantly at 90% lol (and no, these are not the drives they had the game installed on!)

This game was made by ***** just saying.

Anyway playing cleric is a pain in the ***. Trying to cast a buff or heal on your trammate requires a masterful aiming. You will often be applying buffs and heals on yourself or enemies instead of allies.

Any validation on that dodgy anti-cheat?
I read it stays after you uninstall (tavern.exe), resides on drives in which the game isn't installed, and constantly scans ALL files on ALL drives.
Unsure how true this is.

Interesting. I've had sandboxie a long time to use for any potentially dodgy websites. Never considered running games in it. Presume that works alright?

Never understood why developers think they can "balance" PvE and PvP together. It doesn't work without one screwing the other.

PvE doesn't need balance to other classes, it only requires balance to content and trying to apply both only ends up in a cycle of buffs and nerfs with excessive whining by the *******.

LotRO did it right with PvP (which is funny because it was never supposed to have PvP to begin with and was implemented last minute in Beta). They segregated PvE and PvP balancing and so you never had issue with either causing problems between each other.

Just a fact of reality. PvP directs PvE balance and then content is designed around those constraints which usually ends up with every class containing a core design of healing/damage/survivability in some form or another.

PvP requires class to class balancing. PvE only requires class to content balancing (ie if one class is far more powerful in one area than another, it doesn't matter as effective content play is what is important in PvE).

You can have a damage focused class in PvE that has no self or accessible healing outside of another player and it can work well. In PvP this doesn't work well as every class has to have a balancing component to be able to counter each other. Overpowered characters in PvE is fine as what matters is that content is not trivialized and there is a trade off to that design (ie downtime, escape, etc...). Those types of designs allow for complete dominance in PVP and imbalance things.

To a point, I think having at least two ways to approach any task at hand is enough for most to be satisfied.

Multiple approaches with advantage/disadvantage is good in some things, but there needs to be unique aspects of a situation/class/ability which requires it to be applied to progress in that specific circumstance.

It doesn't have to be full barring. It could be a wing of a dungeon, mob, area, etc... that has good loot, but requires a certain class, build, etc...

If every person has a key, then a locked chest becomes pointless.

I always liked games that barred you from areas of play or encounters to defeat unless you had a certain class/ability.

It is good risk/reward, choice/consequence and something that is lacking in most modern games that have this need to cater to the player "winning" in all cases.

What you are talking about can be described as rock paper scissors approach. It sucks in pvp.

Blizzard used to have it in its moba HotS and I think even in Overwatch at the beginning at least. Afaik they admitted it wasnt working.

PvP and PvE can't be balanced well without dumbing the game down and over simplifying play (which is why some older MMOs that focused on PvP dumbed down their systems).

Honestly, it makes sense to have some form of balance of relationship to the PvP game, but it doesn't fit well into the PvE game.

PvE already has a lot of problems due to class envy wars and people who lack the understanding of what a hybrid is and the limitations of having a diverse skillset.
