HQ Guild for an MMO
HQ Guild for an MMO
Making this thread to gauge interest in creating a HQ guild for a MMO we can all play. I think it would boost community engagement and create a closer social atmosphere for us all. Having been in forum based guilds before (Something Awful for example), it's usually great fun with bros. Post in this thread if you're interested and what MMOs you'd like to see a guild in. I think eventually once enough suggestions are had, we should have a vote to narrow it down to one game since this is a first time effort for HQ.
I personally wouldn't mind playing SWTOR again since It IS F2P (although somewhat limited as a free account) and had decent WoWclone combat and group questing.
Post 'em up!
EDIT: Adding poll.

To be clear, if you subscribe once($15) you get all content released up to that point to keep even after canceling your subscription. It's probably the best monetized MMO, or at least the best monetized big-name MMO.CSM-101 wrote: ↑ August 1st, 2024, 15:14I personally wouldn't mind playing SWTOR again since It IS F2P (although somewhat limited as a free account) and had decent WoWclone combat and group questing.

I found a guide to install a couple of these on my steam deck. Will give it a go tonight, but I don't know how active I'll even be. I'll let you know @Kalarion.

EQ 1
EQ 2 (maybe, but last time I played the game was so dumbed down for casuals it was just going through the motions, though could be interesting for the raids)
Age of Conan: Unchained (could be interesting, never played it much past the early game)
SGW (played on release, never got into it much)
Everything else is too mainstream modernized/dumbed down.
Edit:
I enjoy DDO, but the disparity between new and old players (unless played in a dedicated manner by a new player) makes group ventures... difficult and starting a new toon in DDO is pointless.

I have no time at all to participate in this, but for a suggestion : Turtle WoW was a good vanilla+ private server the last I played.

Same. I will either be playing my new Pandaren Frost DK I raised on MoP remix, or my old Tauren paladin main (ret or prot).J1M wrote: ↑ August 1st, 2024, 16:34I will be playing the new WoW expansion for a while when it comes out. (tank)
SWTOR is the only mmo I played consistently. I am also interested in Warhammer Age of Reckoning.
* WoW, private only. Currently on Chromiecraft ( PvE ) was on Warmane ( PvP ) for a year or so but got bored. Not Turtle WoW though, the devs/mods and some guilds are rainbow supporters/sjw's and a couple hundred people had a voice chat meeting wanting to ban/blacklist a Paladin player "Upright" for saying he doesn't support 'Pride' and saying his guild stands with hatred/homophobia, etc for not kicking him out/playing with him. Can link the hour long meeting about him if needed.
Swtor, "Starforge" Server. Played a Jedi Shadow Tank/Sith Assassin Tank mostly for a couple years with my brother. Was an absolute menace in Huttball with another guy we played with a lot "Banshee". Went like 30-4, and 3v3 PvP matches we were about the same. Good times.
*Warhammer: Age of Reckoning. had various characters, mostly like Warrior Priest (?) Squig Herder and Black Orc. Played retail when it was a thing, still have my original box copy. Tried the private server, it's alright. Some uppity chatty people who don't stfu so I had to mute chat a lot but it's stable enough for me. Had fun on retail playing with brother, 2 man wrecking crew as he heals me in most mmo's.
I've tried a lot of them so I can probably dig up the acc's for anything really.

Updating the OP with a poll for games that got two or more suggestions. It's been over 12 hours since the original post so I think everyone that was going to make a suggestion has done so.

I can only vote for one? Darn. I guess that means I have to employ strategic voting.
No one else voted for FF14, and GW2 only got one other vote.
For a guild sized group, FF14 only really has one activity that you can do with a lot of people (that isn't doing the same raid over and over): Eureka, which is an imitation of FF11 in which you go through these special zones and have to fight together against overworld mobs to level up your Eureka level so you can progress through the four zones, with the goal of forging cosmetic weapons. There is also Bozja, which is two more zones in the same style, and Bozja also has two unique open world raids that can be lowmanned with a small guild. Bozja also has a lot of fun critical engagements. So there is some meat here. Biggest dealbreaker is that you don't unlock Eureka until you beat the base storyline of the second expansion, Stormblood, which is about 200 hours into the visual novel story.
Guild Wars 2 has a lot of overworld content to play through with people, though unfortunately almost all of the overworld activities can be soloed, so if you're in a group larger than 2 players then it is of trivial difficulty for the group. However, the very fact that you can play all of these overworld zones together gives it a lot of longevity. We could also do 5v5 ranked SPvP which I found to be fun, but eventually you spend hundreds of hours playing on the same maps and gets old. We could go around roaming in WvW (which is a faction warfare map sorta like DaOC or Warhammer Age of Reckoning), though again the maps get stale after a while.
That just leaves it between voting for WoW (retail, hopefully?), and FF11.
Vanilla and WotLK are a "been there, done that" thing for me. Ascension has some interesting ideas like high risk PvP out in the vanilla world, but if I'm going to play WoW I'd rather play the version with the most robust features and has the new fantasy maps and content that you don't see on vanilla or WotLK servers). As for things we could do together in WoW, there is delves in the upcoming expansion, but the jury is still out on how much longevity there is to them. Delves scale up to five players, there are 12 different delves and 3 variations of each delve, so that's 36 possible delves to do, and then there are like 10 or so difficulty tiers you can pick from if you don't want to roflstomp them. We'll see. Feels like we'll find out whether or not they are worth it in 20 days. Before then... there is not much to do together as a group. Overworld content is easy enough you don't need other players, and for what little overworld content that is hard enough that you want a group for (ie farming Black Dragonflight rep at the Obsidian Keep, or Winterpelt Furbolg rep farm), that might not be enticing to a lot of people. Otherwise, there is doing 10 vs 10 RBGs, which I personally think are fun but only ever did them in PUGs. Or I guess maybe we all go into the open world as a group with war mode enabled and then kill people we see and then get the kill streak title. I don't think people want to do the same half dozen mythic+ dungeons and current raid over and over again in pursuit of arbitrary numbers that will be invalidated come the next patch.
FF11 Horizon is about the long journey to level 75. Because you can switch jobs on a preexisting character, it is easy to go back and play with newcomers by switching to a new unlevelled job and going on the levelling journey with them. And then if you do hit level cap, there is still some stuff to do together, such as the expansion storylines where you need to have a party of players to do the missions, or fighting cool Notorious Monsters together with your linkshell. The max party size is six, but most of the content is not instanced and there are absolutely lots of scenarios where you have multiple parties playing together. For example, when Horizon launched and I first dinged level 20, my six man levelling party went to the Gusgen Mines to farm the skeletons for quest items to get our subjobs unlocked, but the skeletons were in the high level 20s/early 30s. For safety, we had to team up with two other parties and form an 18 man alliance, and we all stayed there farming for 2 to 3 hours until all 18 players got their subjob items. And there are several dungeons like that in the game you have to go to complete an unlock quest like that and can go underlevelled and would thus want to have lots of people.
So it's a tie between FF11 Horizon and WoW. I will cast my vote for Horizon as I think that will have the most longevity and group play potential (unless we just love PvPing in WoW).
