Early Software engineering courses were extremely difficult with nearly major equivalent courses in math/physics and required the ability to write an OS/Compiler from scratch as well. Only the competent even made it past the weeder courses. The later changes to the focus removed all of that and you had idiots getting degrees in software engineering.Gastrick wrote: ↑ July 26th, 2024, 23:42
Fear. Seen a manager get fired because HR was pushing for a certain ****** hire and when he went against them and hired a person much better qualified, HR started pushing complaints that eventually led to him being let go.BobT wrote: ↑ July 28th, 2024, 23:30WHY. Wow, even Torn Banner? Ffs virtue signallers. I helped the original lot test the first Chivalry, back in the day. The devs were really active playing Age of Chivalry (the source mod that predated them forming a proper studio and making Chivalry 1). Such a shame.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 29th, 2024, 00:24some normiecon cuckservative lost his company he founded & was the CEO of for publicly supporting the Texas heartbeat bill that was already law when it was upheld in court

I wonder if it was the original crew or a new ****** or two that they hired that pushed for it.

It has happened a bunch of times. Even games that just downplay the pozz or at least don't put it front & center(e.g., Helldivers 2) end up selling a ton of copies.Brother Chad wrote: ↑ July 29th, 2024, 02:34I feel like a regular sane dude making a sane game will instantly become a millionaire.

As a joke, on you of course.
An experienced old school developer with some good ideas and practical goals definitely could do well these days regardless of genre. People are starving for anything these days.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 29th, 2024, 04:09It has happened a bunch of times. In the long run it gave us Brave, but it would never have happened in a sane society.

You have an incredibly effeminate "male" protagonist with his midriff exposed, two female characters with one of them having a tail, and a straight-up furry. These japs are a menace.

He's absolutely right, by the way. Who fired all the normal game developers and hired this pathetic creatures for half of previous game developer salary? Wealthy boomers from the 90s and they are very happy that this loosers agree to be treated like sheep for ability to put their propaganda. And you guys buying their games, remind you for a second!

They retired or changed industries.
The older ones like Tim Cain are hovering around 60, the 'younger' ones like Sawyer are hovering around 50. The main issue is they only hire from coastal urban areas, which have very few people like that anymore.
Sawyer's salary is at least $250k a year, btw.

US gamedevs insist upon being located in California tho, despite salaries being 5x higher there than anywhere else in the country.

I doubt it's possible to make it into a big game dev company/team without being at the very least left leaning centrist, it's practically all circles of nepotism and nepobabies that fund and approve of each other, and you are not getting into any even relatively big-ish RPG companies like Obsidian, Larian, CDPR, BioWare, Bethesda, Owlcat without being on their side and accepting the degeneracy. Sawyer strikes me as a very malleable and submissive person that would get wrangled into whatever autism his mentally ill contemporaries impart onto his feeble approval wanting brain. He is like an autistic child that just wants to play with numbers, it should honestly be considered abuse what these people do to guys like Avellone and him. Just reading Avellone's attempts at flirting and sexting proves these are men that were virgins far into their 30s and have zero social skills or life experiences.rusty_shackleford wrote: ↑ July 30th, 2024, 17:57Sawyer used to be full-on libertarian, it's why House is the way he is in New Vegas. I can't really think of a single 21st century RPG that came from an AA or AAA company that's not obviously libertarian leaning, just some of them are high quality enough where they didn't feel desperate enough to completely ruin the story's plot, setting, and characters just to get a point across. New Vegas was a great game, and never really felt too on the nose with any messages, especially if compared to today's slop that can't help but slap you in the face with it. Maybe Warhorse Studios is chudpilled? But I doubt they'll last long, ESG and DEI money and pressure is inevitable in game dev. The only real cure would be just adding mandatory physical fitness checks and vitamin d level checks before you are allowed to work in gamedev.
