I've been ignoring Yakuza ever since it got turn-based. We have quite a bit of discussion about that here: viewtopic.php?t=910-sea-of-starsLemonDemonGirl wrote: ↑ July 27th, 2024, 15:45What the **** is it with JRPGs ending with killing God?
We revealed their god emperor to be just a man, but didn't bother to replace their religion with Christianity. Instead, we taught them the cocaine of materialism. We rebuilt Japan, bringing them into an age of unprecedented prosperity. People finish their tiring 9 to 5 job and then don't want to find out what that weird steepled Western building is all about. They want to go out for drinks or hurry home to watch TV or play videogames. Also doesn't help that Japan's popular history with Christianity has been negative, with people misrepresenting the truth about the geopolitical situation in the greater world and then Japan finding out years later. Christianity's guilt by association with "the evil Nobunaga", and that time a guy led a rebellion which led to tens of thousands of people being killed. And, ofcourse, Christianity was the nominal faith of the empire that conquered and vassalized Japan. Hence why you get stuff like in Spice & Wolf proclaiming the Catholic Church stand in to be stuff of "conquerors". The faith of the Christian community in Nagasaki didn't save them from being blown up. Not an inspiring reason to convert. And there have been translation issues, with missionary work in Japan having switched to using completely new terms because trying to use the Japanese's conception of the kami and so to talk about the Christianic God wasn't working.LemonDemonGirl wrote: ↑ July 27th, 2024, 15:45What the **** is it with JRPGs ending with killing God?
So for a variety of reasons, Japanese people don't care about Christianity and are ignorant of what it says. As for pop culture like anime and videogames, Christianity is an exotic aesthetic to them much as how Chinese martial arts and zen stuff was exotic to us and is sprinkled into our entertainment as novel flavoring, and they do the same. Videogames often need a faction of enemy soldiers to fight against that can be copypasted over and over across dozens of hours of chapters. Unfortunately, you have that unimaginative type of otaku that Miyazaki talked about, the one who grows up consuming anime and then regurgitates it. They tend to just default to either evil empires or evil churches. Evil churches were stereotypical in Breath of Fire and Final Fantasy Tactics, and over two decades later we have Fire Emblem and Diofield Chronicle and Granblue Fantasy Relink coming out regurgitating the same drivel.
Japan was influenced by Buddhism and Confucianism. In those cosmologies, it is perfectly possible for mortals to ascend the divine hierarchy. And, again, their god emperor turned out to be just a man. To us, the idea of a man killing the omnipotent God is impossible, but to them it's normal, that a "god" turns out to be just like a man and can be killed, or that a man can become a "god". Though like everywhere, you also have humans who do not wish to submit to a higher authority and thus refuse to acknowledge that.
As for the "power of friendship will triumph over all and slay gods and remake the universe!" rhetoric you constantly see in Final Fantasy, Xeno, Trails, Scrapped Princess, etc, it's again the end result/cope of a godless civilization with no answers.

Nintendo, Sony, Sega ******* annihilated their libraries in the last month. I have a lot of classic sega/nintendo games split between my phone and steam deck, but I lost all but three of my ps2 isos. I hope Japan sinks into the ******* sea, don't ever give me that based samurai ********.
I'm never wtching another anime, that's the last ******* time. I'm never visiting their shithole cuntry again, go to hell nips.

Not once has the loss of any particular emulation site affected me. Try clicking the second or perhaps third links that appear when you search "ps2 isos" and you'll be fine.

What annoys me is these ******* companies do this, usually because they want to hoover up a miniscule amount of money re-offering them as remasters, but those are usually **** and broken.
OR they do what they did with the Sonic games in some retro collection on steam, offer it with them, then pull them all later. (AFTER killing all the ROMs everywhere else).
Or even worse, they do it just for SEO for their new games, like they did when they nuked shitloads of people's Youtube accounts just to release a new game with "Shining" in the title, killing off loads of fan's accounts who played Shining Force etc., just because they didn't want those vids coming up rather than marketing for the new game. Look that up, TotalBiscuit did a complete boycot of Sega for a while because of what they did to their own fans there. Shame he didn't take that to his death and rescinded on it just beforehand.

999th time emulation has been doomed forever because some sites that host roms got taken down.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

I don't get what the problem is. I've got all my roms and emus on my ssd's. They can't be touched.

Try Vimm's Lair, Romspure.cc, wowroms, romslab, etc. Haven't checked if I can download stuff still but their websites seem normal.
Vimm's Lair has lots of ps2 roms.

Which I presume is what the posts above are about.Vimm's Lair wrote:June 6, 2024
Vimm's Lair has been asked to remove many games from The Vault on behalf of Nintendo, Sega, Lego, and the ESA. While most of these games (and the hardware to play them) haven't been sold in decades, ultimately it's their prerogative so these games are now gone for good.
These greedy ****** companies caring about games that are 10-20+ years old, that they're not seeing a penny for already, anyway. grrr.
There should be a law that as soon as it goes out of final production, ROMs should be legal.
Ah didn't see that. I had the rom section bookmarked, not the front page. **** I'm glad I went through almost every section and mass downloaded what I wanted earlier this year. **** sake.
Same, I grabbed a few Saturn ones a short while ago too, when looking for a game for @maidenhaver (did you ever get that running?).Breathe wrote: ↑ July 28th, 2024, 23:42**** I'm glad I went through almost every section and mass downloaded what I wanted earlier this year. **** sake.
They literally lose NOTHING by leaving those old ROMs up. Fuckers.

No, I never got panzer dragoon saga working. Vimm's was very convenient, because not only was the collection virtually complete, a lot of them were pre-translated. IA is **** to search, and the dumps I've found, although recent, are incomplete (PS2 US games s-z are missing). I have every nes/ps1/snes/n64 I wanted, but I can't find my ps2 or dreamcast games. Such a *****.BobT wrote: ↑ July 28th, 2024, 23:44Same, I grabbed a few Saturn ones a short while ago too, when looking for a game for @maidenhaver (did you ever get that running?).Breathe wrote: ↑ July 28th, 2024, 23:42**** I'm glad I went through almost every section and mass downloaded what I wanted earlier this year. **** sake.

They can't take down torrents, so if you really want to pirate stuff just get a VPN(I recommend mullvad https://mullvad.net/en/vpn ) and torrent them.
