I decided to go back to AC Syndicate and even decided to do the Karl Marx missions through gritted teeth.
► Show Spoiler
They should give you an alternative ending for that mission instead of making you start again.

It wasn't deleted. It was moved into the appropriate thread because it's off topic
Looks like your post got moved here @Yankee Zulu: viewtopic.php?p=117330-what-is-a-random ... re#p117330
I didn't move it, but I probably wouldn't have known where to put it either.

This popped up on Steam today. Probably too early to know if it's any good but it's peaked my interest.

Main character has a huge resemblance to Harrison Ford/Deckard in the video.

I want a game where you play as Anglo Saxons and defend Christian England and her monasteries from ViKANG *******.

I want a game where you play as the King of Asturias circa 900 such as King Alfonso III the Great (r. 866–910), for example, and defends the west coast of Spain against Vikings by building fortifications and engaging in naval and land combat. Also, you kill mudslimes as side quests.

Maybe 30 minutes in so far and I'm not even sure what genre it is but I'm enjoying the aesthetics.

The aesthetics in the video is what peaked my interest. Looks more cyberpunk than Cyerbpunk 2077.

It's neo-noir, sticking with the actual noir theme rather than cyberpunk. I didn't see any "capitalism bad" messages yet, just corrupt government.

Finished the first investigation and it was actually pretty good, but it's an adventure game FYI. A pretty one with a good tone, tho.

I was watching someone on twitch and it seemed very hand holdy with not much challenge to it.

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be much challenge, but there was a lot of stuff hidden you'd miss if you didn't go around investigating rather than just follow what the game told you to do. Including, presumably, an entirely different path at one point.
I'd probably put it in the 'moviegame' category but not a sony-kind of moviegame.

Also, it has a very "government bad" message so far. Very little comment on capitalism/corporations.

1. There was an old-time movie at the start which had a black at some point, but I'm not sure if that counts. I'm guessing it was actual public domain material tbh.
2. Don't think so.
3. No? My partner for the first mission was a woman, but she wasn't actually with me, just on the radio. She says she doesn't do dispatch.
4. Dunno.

Repeatedly iterating on a design formula that works with incremental improvements is a good thing, actually. Not everything needs to be groundbreaking and unique.

Been trying out Diablo III for myself, the infamous game that everyone and their grandmother claims is horrible and irredeemable since 2012. Granted, this is the Switch version which I am emulating via Ryujinx, but it's actually a lot of fun and I definitely prefer it to the likes of Diablo II which I briefly dabbled in. While Diablo II stressed and bored me a ton with it's endless loot and repetitive dungeons, so far Diablo III has been a breath of fresh air. It streamlines the worst parts of these games, while providing a much more fully realized game world. Areas no longer feel like randomly generated locations in a void, but real places. And the voiced companions you can recruit add a lot to the feeling of adventure, as does the greater emphasis on voiced dialogue and books. I can see what they were going for, and I appreciate it despite some shortcomings.

I'm enjoying my time a lot more with it than I did Grim Dawn, which speaks to the sort of quality even late stage Blizzard managed to squeeze in before they ultimately died a pathetic slow death. It's just a shame it took a lot of updates and overhauls to get it to this point, no doubt. I believe the people who were most upset by Diablo III were the small minority of diehard Diablo II players, the ones that treated it like a legitimate MMO and wanted to craft the perfect character. The addictive personalities who somehow spent hours grinding the same boss for loot. And it's those "people" who somehow managed to speak for everyone else, and probably ended up scaring a lot of less intense players who might have enjoyed the game if they gave it a chance.

Edit: And, totally unexpectedly, the game is one of those that tends to slander and berate the "not Catholic Church" within the lore. The "Zakarum" faith as it is called. The typical JRPG-tier nonsense of "demons actually being behind the church!" and "the priests are actually corrupt and insincere!" once again rears it's tired, ugly head. Despite my own qualms against Catholics, this slander isn't a liturgical debate against papal authority, but yet another case of faithless redditors spewing feces from their bungholes.

Despite people hating on it I enjoyed playing through Diablo 3. I played it way after the release. I loved Grim Dawn, though it took me trying it a second time and getting passed the swamp area for me to finally start enjoying it.

I think Activision Blizzard's notorious greed turned a good game into a very infamous one. First impressions are everything, and forcing an always online DRM measure + a paid auction house was the worst possible one a game can give. Aside from being ugly and broken, of course. It was likely very difficult to justify doing anything other than Call of Duty and World of Warcraft by the time the game came out, and anything else that was made had to either be low budget or just as easily monetised as the aforementioned titles. By the early 2010s, that policy became even more strict. Diablo was walking a fine line, because despite being popular it's not as though they could charge a monthly fee to play the game like they could with Warcraft.

Had Diablo III been a standard release, with an offline single player mode and paid expansions, it would have been received much more warmly, but the 2010s had other plans.

A lot of effort went into modernizing the Blades of Darkness port, fyi. Poking thru the files, expected it to just be a re-release but nah. Rewritten renderer(DX11), port to 64bit, textures recompressed using modern compression formats, etc.,

Also, I suspect it had native linux support at some point considering there's some script files for linux leftover, I guess they couldn't get it working or something.

He also makes the mistake of claiming Wolfenstein II wasn't "woke". When that disgusting pile of slop was one of, if not the, wokest video games I ever had the misfortune of playing.

**** games are bad for nearly the same reason, they're 99% coomerbait that just put women on a pedestal, 2-3 years removed from being just as feminized & gay. A game about some female wearing barely any clothes beating up everyone in her path is not the same as a game about a group of guys fighting in a war.

Oh man these controls are clunky, no wonder people said it's a proto souls-like.
Not an RPG tho. Action game with some RPG elements — mainly, leveling up & equipment.

Animations are very well done tho, some of the best I've seen for the era for sure.
