To be fair they definitely have not been working on it for six years. That trailer was literally just a stockholder business decision. I would be shocked if TESVI is in primary development even now.

tried The First Descendant - had zero expectations but it's actually kind of fun gameplaywise as far as looter shooters go; it's Korean coomer bait through and through with butt physics and voice acting straight outta porn, but the gunplay, traversal, and abilities are quite satisfying, so it looks like they actually put some effort into the rest of the game as well.

worth trying to if you like Warframe but you're tired of its giga ****** devs.

Steam version works fine without internet access. I thought it seemed strange because I never allow singleplayer games to access the internet, and I've played it.

Finished Cry of Fear as standalone version on Steam and can only recommend playing it. Chose the Easy difficulty to experience the story, enemy design and use of horror elements by the Devs. It is definitely a S-Tier Survival Horror game. Better than Lost in Vivo which I mentioned weeks ago. It does have some issues and still room for improvement, but more about it in the spoilers below.

The scariest parts of the game: Apartments, esp. Chapter 1, and Subway Tunnels in Chapter 4, while using flares. Either Simon is weak or the phone battery is dead. Chapter 6 has a similar design choice where everything is taken away and just 3 inventory out of the previous 6 remain. It is plagued by the train escape sequence which brings it down a bit. The game also fell off in the later part, feeling a bit unfinished or unpolished.
The game's atmosphere and the unease it evokes is its strongest element. This is supported by the jump-scares which do appear often. They are infrequent but also scripted. On a first playthrough they do make the player question if there is something around the corner.
Level design is also great, making use of similar environmental choices as in Silent Hill, its main inspiration. Metallic and rusty. Narrow tunnels, abandoned urban areas, sewers.
Enemy design is for the most part fine. The Sawrunner is by far the scariest enemy and also the most deadly. On the other end of the spectrum are the Taller which were more or less no threat. A few other enemies have been used sparingly and could have been fleshed out.
That they did it all in the GoldSrc Engine is a feat. Brilliant work, really.

A few other recommendations. Haven't had the opportunity to play them, so can't tell about their quality.
Afraid of Monsters, from the same developers of Cry of Fear, Team Psykskallar. They Hunger which is an even older Half-Life mod from around 1999-2001. And Paranoia.

I don't understand how people can be turned off by spiders in a video game. They can't hurt you there. You either get to slay many of them or use them as cool pets.

GW2 was going to have a spider mount that could climb up walls, but then that got cancelled because "people have arachnophobia" and replaced by a cute bunny that leaps up cliffs. Boring.

Metal Gear Rising is now on GOG!. Always rare to see Konami do anything of value, especially releasing one of their underrated classics DRM-free. Now if they would just release the greatest Metal Gear game of all time, Ground Zeroes.

Nothing unusual. This is why certain modern games are so bloated. Focus on graphics, be it either with pre-rendered cutscenes or textures. Especially stupid when there is hardly any difference over 1080p/2K but they want to use 4K textures. Or even freaking 8K.

As comparion, going over the BG3 PAKs. The following numbers are all in GB. Textures take up 89.2. 12 for normal textures, 77.2 for Virtual textures. Models and Gustav take up 20.8 combined, but they also have elements for Visuals. So it only leaves around 33 from the total of 143. 10 being for SharedSounds, don't know if compressed or not. Leaning towards the former since there is a mod for higher audio quality. Make it 23 for all the other elements.

Kind of ridiculous since games are gameplay first and foremost. Even for story, writing takes priority. And good retro titles do not require good graphics to grip someone and have them be invested.
