You can even get right up to NPCs and you have to stand there retardedly long for any consequence.
The one time I triggered any reaction from an NPC with the proximity thing in the top right corner of the screen was when I came out of Trip's Pawnshop. Some chick spawned right in front of me. She saw me, freaked out and just ran away. I didn't even get a "Crime committed" or "Masquerade broken" penalty.
I'm thinking it's possible to spend the entire game above ground going to the sewers only when you need to access quest important locations, like the Ocean Hotel or the Nocturne Theatre or Brother Kanker's lair, etc. That and the hub-to-hub transitions.

I think it's immediately obvious what should be the badge for completing this.
Image
I agree. That looks like a good fit for the badge.

Edit:
Does anyone one have an image of that shape in .svg format to allow for automatically scaling the size?

Vergil's made a better suggestion for the badge, in my opinion.

I extracted a couple icons from the game to potentially use as this game's badge

I think they look better than just a jpeg of the camarilla symbol and fit the theme of other badges.

Personally I think either the camarilla symbol or the blood drop would be good. The Camarilla symbol is a bit generic since it's usually used to cover the whole franchise which might not be ideal if we ever add Redemption to the list
I like these three the most: Image Image Image

Not to rag on you, I just couldn't relate to your review/experience with mine with this game.

In my humble opinion it read like a alcohol/weed fueled Beatnik stream of consciousness script (this is not a compliment). I just couldnt understand it.

stream of consciousness script
But it was a stream of consciousness!

I haven't played the game for about 5 years and haven't finished it in about a decade. I didn't want to replay it "seriously" and/or for nostalgia's sake, because a) I was on a time limit, b) I already remembered all the good things I wanted.
So I ran a meme character from the dumbest of clans in a ******** manner. And I did a quick run - I've skipped all Hollywood and Chinatown sidequests (still had 90+ unspent xp at the end of the game), forgot to get Heather's armor, etc. Also, I think it's the first run in which I sexed Jeanette (because white girl BBC meme ofc).
The run turned out to be long enough for me to recall all the things I didn't like before (and some more - characters seemed to be better written when I was young adult), so I vented on screenshots and a couple of bullet points. It was more like insert from the random images thread than anything else.

I forgot how truly enjoyable this game was, I want to thank this thread for reminding me it existed and doing another playthrough after YEARS. I went around as a Ventrue just suiciding everything in sight for shits and giggles. Was originally going to do a max firearm build but then I was all, "I get two of the best defensive skills in the game, just **** fist everything with a knife.".

God I wish this game had gotten the support it deserved during development and post release.

Every Game that was on the Adventurer Guild and Junior AG is still playable and the badges are earnable. There is no time-limit on them. You can use mods iirc, since I do remember some using them to enhance the content or rather extend it.

I'm not sure if there's been a "verdict" on mods, but the assumption seems to be that if you participate you're doing so in earnest, and I think the assumption is that as long as mods are representative of the original gameplay experience, it's OK. Some games are, after all, practically unplayable without mods, these days. I don't think it's a discussion worth having until someone is trying to pull a fast one, at which point we'll probably just spit on them.

So it's begins.

Image

Tremere was a menacing force in a Vampire: The Masquerade — Redemption. But that's not why we're going to play for one of them. We will play as one of them because all, I mean all the male characters in the game looks goofy for some reason. The male Tremere to a lesser extent.
We chose a highway Drifter history to extra points in stealth.

Image

Our starting characteristics. A little bit of wits, rhetoric, thaumaturgy.

Image

Why the bite marks on his face and not his neck?

Image

A restless awakening.

Image

You also hate it when two black men barge into your hotel room and drive a stake through you?
Without context, this screenshot looks gay.

Image

And we'll never hear anything about our sire again.

Image

Rodriguez trying to act cool. But this, like LaCroix's pathos-laden speech, looks rather ridiculous considering the theater is nearly empty. For whom are they playing pompous politicians? For each other?

Image

Therese, don't look at the cameraman like that! You're breaking the scene!

Image

Oooh, edgy!

Image

As a kid, I thought Jack was a cool character. But now all of his mannerism remind me some redditor quirky chungus. What a shame.

Image

Thank goodness we don't wrap our legs around people like the female characters do when they feed.

Image

We will soon experience firsthand that the Camarilla isn't so different.

Image

We wuz vampirez and shiet

It's hard to believe that vampires have remained hidden from humanity when there are jerks like Sabbath who are completely open about their existence. It feels unbelievable unless there is some serious conspiracy going on and vampires control humans on all levels. This is the only plausible way Masquerade could truly work in today's world.

Well, let's continue, shall we?

We have two skill points for tutorial, but unfortunately that's not enough.

Image

Well, we've only just arrived, but already everyone needs us. The prince said we need to contact Mercurio. He was kind enough to leave us a message.

Image

An invitation from Strauss.

Image

Free money.

Image

Spooky!

Image

On the way out of the apartment, we see our guy. Looks like he's injured. But it's okay. He can still wait. We need to take a look around first.

Image

No other game has the same atmosphere of a calm yet mystical night. Pure kino!

Image

If you've always wondered how Masquerade works. Well, it doesn't.

Image

Even the average redditor can scream about the existence of vampires all over the street.

Image

Image

This means that someone could create a different kind of humans who would feed on vampire blood, have paranormal powers, and have no weakness for the sun and so on. Doesn't sound very reassuring for vampires.

Image

Or hunting vampires, locking them in cages and selling their blood as the ultimate drug. In any case, the existence of ghouls and the effects of vampire blood on humans in this way seems more like an almost fatal flaw than an advantage.

Image

Well, that's was nice to talk to this goofball, but we need to get to the clinic. We'll find something useful there, both for Mercurio and for ourselves.

We're in. A bunch of interesting magazines on the table. Sweet.

Image

We asked politely to this health care worker to let us pass on. Not without the help of our vampire powers, though.

Image

In one of the office, we met this woman who looked like a tumbler girl. Looks like she's in trouble. There's no doctor around for some reason.

Image

Oh, there he is.

Image

Looks like the American health care system on the rise! And now we're a nurse. With zero experience and no paycheck!

Image

Dr. Diversity chose the life of a man over the life of a woman. Based?

Feeding from the same vampire 3 times makes you a blood slave to him. You can see the effect of that in-game with your ghoul, Heather.
However, there is a case of a vampire hunter living off of vampire blood for centuries by catching vampires, staking them through the heart, then nailing them to a wall with metal spikes through the head, and bleeding them dry in the text CYOA Vampire: the Masquerade - Night Road. Not sure how said person avoids becoming enslaved, though.

Huh, cool. Thanks for the intel. So, about not becoming a blood slave: Maybe it's all about how well a vampire can communicate with you. If they can't express their will through talking, moving, or direct eye contact, maybe they can't control you. So, if you immobilize them in some way, they can't influence you at all. And that way, you can sip away as much blood as you want without any trouble.

Meanwhile, our protagonist shows what he really thinks about the whole Masquerade thing, recalls a recent conversation with a goofball about the healing properties of vampire blood, and decides to help out a gal in trouble.

Image

Whoa, slow down there, girl.
This whole bloodsucking scene is looking pretty intimate and steamy. Lucky for us, our Dr. Diversity hasn't decided to walk in here at this very moment!

Image

Image

"Me? Oh, I'm just an incredibly caring medical expert. I'll give you the groundbreaking advice to stay hydrated and get plenty of rest. Try not to fall ill again, little red-haired girl. Sweet dreams".

Is the Unofficial Patch required in some way, or can I play without? I recall last time I played this game the Unofficial Patch changed it drastically from the first time I played it, changing things from the main menu to the text font and more, and I deeply disdain these "fixes". Asking now for the future as I don't want to start a new playthrough with the same bitterness I had last time after going through the files to break the "patch" apart and restore as much as I could by hand.
Edit: as an added, I am aware the newer Unofficial Patch has divided the changes in optional etc, but from my experience with similar patches for other games, "optional" is just "the most evident changes" that they would get caught adding without input otherwise, and leaving things like "fixed the music!" (which means "added edited and cleaned audio of the music the modder likes best over the functional original that did not need edit").

Wesp5 took the feedback of his patch adding too much to heart AFAIK, the basic unofficial patch should just be bug-fixes and stuff at this point.
