Dark and Darker is back on steam now, it is an extraction game similar to Escape from Tarkov except in a medieval fantasy setting with several different classes.
Gameplay: slow and feels kinda janky with no sprint and only crouch and jump, which both can be used in PvE against bosses and PvP against enemies. Shields need to actually be aimed at an attack to work, and aiming spells, heals, and arrows can be quite hard at first. The “ring” has been removed, so no need to always be moving towards the center of the map.
Classes: probably the hardest thing for the devs to balance, the game being both PvE, PvP, with Solos, Duos, and Trios. The community and streamers often complain and cry about “x” class being too strong in trios but sucking in solos or vice versa which in turn either turns “x” class into a fairly weak option or completely overpowered. So far there is Fighter; classic knight type class with access to most weaponry and good armor but no spells pretty good class overall. Barbarian; like fighter you have no spells but more damage and less armor, however more magic resistance. Great class for beginners since the playstyle is hold W and swing your axe. (Can simply destroy doors and chests). Cleric; a class using primarily maces and shields with slow moving attacks but can use faith spells to heal and buff yourself and teammates. Can also build into being very tanky. Not the best solo class but one of the best classes for trios. Ranger; the bow and arrow class, primarily focused on ranged. Great potential to take out 1-3 people on your own with great positioning and well aimed shots, also the potential to lose to even the worst of players if caught in close quarters. Pretty good for Duos imo. Wizard; the wizard. Squishy and uses spells, probably tied for the hardest class for beginners, using spells can be pretty clunky in this game, and Wizards entire playstyle revolves around spells (vs cleric and warlock). Not the best for solos but one of the best for trios due to the sheer amount of burst damage. Warlock; the edgy version of cleric. Great in solo due to sustain and summoning hydra, uses melee weapons as well as spells primarily spells that drain your health but you leech it off enemies, pairs quite well with other classes in duos. Rogue; the sneaky assassin. Rogue is tied with wizard for hardest class for newbies. You primarily use daggers (can use rapiers) and hand crossbows) and can go invisible, use poison, or attacks to cause enemies the inability to use their skills for a short time. High skill ceiling but more often than not will lose a fight head on, requires ambushes and outplaying the enemy. One of the worst classes for PvE and leveling up. Not very strong in duos or trios unless the team is playing around you. Invisibility used to be very good, now it requires several perk points to actually be good for anything other than a quick ambush. Bard; the skald. Haven’t played much of it but provided buffs in trios while also quite well in solos. Druid; newest class, haven’t played him but he can summon a tree monster, heal quite well, and can turn into a literal rat.
Steam Launch: devs kinda dropped the ball by saying it’s a free to play game but you can only have one class, and can’t use the trader to full extend and obviously can’t use a shared stash. Until a few days ago (iron maxed fixed it) you couldn’t use certain gear as a F2P player, so many people review bombed the game. Along with this, the game can be very unforgiving, if you don’t leave the dungeon in a timely manner boulders and whatnot will start damaging you and outright kill you, which was a big part of the negative reviews “I keep randomly dying” no you stayed in the dungeon when there was only a minute left in the raid.
Conclusion: I don’t really like extraction fps games, but this one is an exception. PvP doesn’t require twitch reflexes to headshot people, plus PvE is emphasized for getting money/ loot and doing quests, along with bosses so it feels like PvE first before PvP. Ironmace should stop listening to streamers for nerfs and buffs.

aye, been having a blast with me mates with this
i'd watched streams of it since it first had its test build in late 2022 but for some reason never gave it a go, then when it got taken off the steam store that just reduced the incentive
was definitely hard going in blind initially, but once you familiarise yourself with the escape mechanics and don't get too greedy looting when the clock's ticking down, things get more methodical and easier
overall a good sesh

Game is great, played the fighter a lot and even managed to extract out of the second layer/level. Still not good enough to actually play against sweatlords but most of the normal enemies are not a problem anymore.

If you're not in a 3 man, you will get stomped, and with that in mind, always run Thief, Cleric, Barbarian, since a juiced up Barbarian 1 shots basically everything, and Thief is just OP.

I watched some gameplay.
A more interesting game wouldn't have a map, a compass and pre-lit torches.

I know the hatred for AI is real, and people hate Procedural Generation - but unironically a random dungeon each time would make the game also pretty wild.Hauberk wrote: ↑ June 18th, 2024, 07:52I watched some gameplay.

Speaking of which... Does such a dungeon delving game exist?Hauberk wrote: ↑ June 18th, 2024, 07:52A more interesting game wouldn't have a map, a compass and pre-lit torches.
I’m guessing you mean rogue, but he is no longer overpowered. With the right gear and build the class can be quite good but overall it’s a little on the weaker side imo.TKVNC wrote: ↑ June 18th, 2024, 07:47Remember playing it with my friends.

Is this the game with the playable skeleton classes? If so I played a little of it solo. Seemed okay.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

they're not classes, just skins you can unlockVergil wrote: ↑ June 18th, 2024, 22:37Is this the game with the playable skeleton classes? If so I played a little of it solo. Seemed okay.
you get one of the skellington skins if you played the alpha version of the game or whatever
interestingly enough the skins change your statsa bit
ie elves get more agility or dexterity but lose strength, orcs are opposite
lizardmen and werewolves (a bit how ya goin) restrict you from wearing headgear but give some other benefits to compensate statwise
Huh this must not be the one I played then none of that was in

took me and a mate like a whole day before we managed to successfully escape

there'll be some situations where you gotta take the fight with other players, but not necessary, you can just be a lil rat (literally if you're a druid) and run away if you don't want to
pvp used to be way more common back when they had the battle royale style 'zone closing in' schtick but now that it's gone people are less likely to come across each other
Maybe. The game doesn't seem too keen on being fun or enjoyable so far.

Does it play like Dark Messiah or Elder Scrolls?
combat wise, i guess?
pretty straightforward stuff where you can chain combos, block, dual wield and have alternate attacks with some weps
there's no Dark Messiah physics wacky stuff but certain things can knockback like Druid's bear form slam and Rangers can get a knockback arrow ability, can also bust down doors and crates/barrels etc
I played this for a few minutes after the demo became available and got REALLY confused as to where the hype comes from. Simplistic gameplay, uninspired monsters, generic dungeon. What's here to like about this game? This looks like one of the many asset flips on steam that somehow became successful for completely lolrandom reasons. Also, the way this game monetizes is SO predatory it puts EA to shame.

the game was pay-to-play before this, now they just have it free to demo essentially
the appeal is mostly just back to basics good ol dungeon crawler with the boys, soloing isn't as enjoyable.
the way classes synergise with one another and can have pvp matchups is fun imo, where you have **** like a tanky fighter boy holding the line while a caster at the back slings spells, or a rogue turns off all the lights and does a cheeky ambush on their fragile dudes at the back, or a bard plays some wacky tunes for the boyz, etc etc
call it bland or uninspired but it's just peak classic fantasy fun imo
