Old Morrowind screenshots were (probably) just mockups

For discussing role-playing video games, you know, the ones with combat.

Old Morrowind screenshots were (probably) just mockups

Just a bit of interesting trivia.

You may or may not have seen these screenshots before:

And, probably the most memorable:

You can find more here:

It turns out, those were (probably) just mockups. An old bethesda developer stopped by OpenMW's forums to comment on a thread, and briefly mentioned it:
https://forum.openmw.org/viewtopic.php?t=7960
AFAIK, those particular screenshots were not in-engine.
I recall those particular screenshots being used to sell the game. In fact, they used to be on Bethesda's site itself…

Someone with the same name probably did work at Bethesda during Morrowind's development:
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/General:Dougla ... ll's_Posts
… Goodall is known as Affamu, …
…Who seems to have actually been one Douglas Goodall

Only issue is the hiring dates don't match up right. He says "January 2001" in an interview, but "January 2000" now. Getting the month right but being off by a year isn't exactly very far off when it's a 22 year time gap, though.

Now we know why we never got our gondolas I guess. :(
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

@rusty_shackleford is the lack of gondolas one of the reasons for which Todd is considered a liar?

Bethesda were always the masters of "bullshotting". Fake mockups, screenshots, it was always the norm in gaming.

Affamu's got time on his hands:

He was a regular at the old TES forums.

The Morrowind level up messages are so weird. They pop into my head whenever I figure out something difficult IRL but I don't like the ones that imply you're getting old and ****** and will certainly **** up and die towards the end.

The LVL 20 one is really passive-aggressive lol.

You'll never be better than you are today. If you are lucky, by superhuman effort, you can avoid slipping backwards for a while. But sooner or later, you're going to lose a step, or drop a beat, or miss a detail -- and you'll be gone forever.
