Call of Duty Zombies

Thread for what was at one point the only reason to bother with a new Call of Duty game. Been playing the classic maps in Black Ops III lately and with another game on the horizon why not make a thread to reminisce about the game mode when it was a cool little extra addition before being reduced to utter normgroid slop?

Its a shame BO3 is 112 gigs, I keep uninstalling it for space and then have to redownload it whenever I want to play origins or mob of the dead.

Yea I literally only have it for zombies (specifically because at least to my knowledge it's the only game with all of the classic maps and it has steam workshop support) but have to deal with the massive size bloat for all the other **** I'll never touch.

They completely ****** it up. It was at it's best when it was a fun arcadey game mode first with little bits of lore drip fed to you with lots of room for speculation. Once it started getting cutscenes and they had to alter all the characters because they were afraid of the protagonists being non-PC it became slop. Richtofen was always the fan favorite and I'm sure they weren't comfortable with the fact everyone wanted to play as an insane unrepentant Nazi so they made him an anti-hero and distanced himself from the nazis entirely.

my only experience with cod zombies was playing black ops on the wii

we didnt have other consoles of that generation or good enough pcs to run modern (at the time) games so the ****** graphics budget version that only had Kino der Toten was all i got

thankfully i didn't have to used the accursed motion controls

and that's my story

The Blacks Ops III version of Der Riese ruined the easter egg song with some truly horrible remix. Thank God there's a steam workshop version that fixes it and even restores the characters to their WaW versions.

It was more fun when they kept it grounded and the willy wonka **** shouldn’t have been added to BO3.

Original zombies maps had a genuinely creepy atmosphere and could actually spook you here and there. Now it's basically be bethesda falloutized into silly wacky ********. Richtofen had some (admittedly cringe) lol so randum dialog that, that's what the entire thing has become so now it's just tired.

Could try Sker Ritual. Devs behind it wanted it to feel similar to the old COD zombies apparently.

Look at the screenies the style seems exactly like that new over-saturated meh atmosphere the newer cod zombies maps go for but there is a demo so I'll probably give it a try and see for myself.

I remember going to a friend's house and playing the zombies mode co-op for a bit on the first black ops game. It was meh. Didn't get what all the excitement was about.

I gave this a try for about an hour. It's decently fun but there's not much making it stand out from other wave based shooters. The art style and world is pretty unappealing and I don't know if this was a demo limitation but I couldn't find any other weapons besides the starting handgun which while you can upgrade misses some of the fun of CoD's vast arsenal. Also visually the game is really really dark to the point I had to fiddle with brightness and contrast settings just to see what I was looking at.
Feel like it's getting way ahead of itself with little quests and easter egg type of stuff before nailing the core gameplay first.

Ah I see. It seemed fun from what I saw of it. You can definitely get more weapons but I think you have to get them from some dog creature which spawns around the map. The gun he gives is randomised tho.

Are any of the recent call of duty zombies good? I stopped at black ops 3 (turned 10 years old last week), I played 4 a little bit last week but it just felt like a downgraded version of 3 to me.
