Adventurer's Guild

Your favorite PoE 1/2 class

Post by WaterMage »

I will be honest: the first time that I played Pillows, I played as a wizard and didn't like that much. Found all spells to be boring and 4e-esque versions of typical D&D spells. When I played as a Cipher, I really liked the game. Because Cipher is something new. According to Tim Cain (video timestamped below), it is based on WildStar esper. Being able to take control over enemies, paralyze them, throw waves of force to knock them down, and disintegrate them was fun.

I liked the class so much that I did a solo PotD Psion run in Pillows 2. And completed the game but honestly couldn't complete the DLCs with this pure RP build. My unique critique is that there are little to no reactivity and the world kinda don't react much to you being able to literally mind enslave people despite the in game lore. In deadfire, you can use your powers to reduce nausea of your crew and to solve a mutiny problem.

Chanter. I liked summoning monsters with songs, and I liked the ability names. Reminded me of totem twisting too.

Wizard breaks the game, so i like the wizard.

Wizard multiclassing breaks the game even more in poe 2 (after SOYer nerfed the fun out of ranger/monk)

Psyblade multiclass(Cipher/Fighter)

Barbarian shouldn't have even existed as a separate class, it's just a variant of fighter.

Cipher for 1. It's unique and it makes the most sense storywise for the main character.

Wizard. I loved slamming people in the face with my grimoire and making all the end bosses slip on grease.

I liked Ranger, sending my pet to harass and shooting the enemies from afar with a bow. Pretty cool back then.

Ranger I found too Micromanaging dependent. Mainly after they nerfed the pets.

I won't play godlike because they **** them for head slot items.
I despise the polynesian sharkface men.
The little furry gremlin-gnomes are weird.

Oh, and the entire setting smacks of pretentious online writefaggotry.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

I didn't liked 1 that much but 2 I loved.

Psion is my favorite class. Sadly is considered the weskest cipher subclass. I don't care if Amira's Wing casting Wilting Wind can make me top focus insantly, I like the idea of passively getting focus and having a burst of raw kinetic energy.

That said, IMO if Wizards are much weaker than 3.5e counterparts, Ciphers are in other hands, much stronger than its 3.5e Psionicist counterpart.

Pick a ringleader for example. AoE domination is something that not even 9th-tier spells in D&D like Dominate Monster can do. Dominate monster is a single target spell. This powerful spell is available for mid-level Ciphers. Ciphers can cast it unlimited times before needing to rest. Meanwhile, in KotC2, Dominate is a 7th-tpower( src 1 ). Psionicist is considered the strongest class by many in KotC2. and in Pillars, you can "semi" dominate a creature at lv 1, spending merely 10 focus. Or even use its abilities as a 3rd level power by spending 30 focus. In 3.5e SRD, Dominate is available as a 4th tier power but onlTelepaths( src 2). At 9th level, the psion has 72 power points, enough to cast manifest 8 powers at lv 5 per rest. Meanwhile, a Cipher in Pillows can spam multiple "ring leaders" in multiple encounters without needing to rest.

In terms of mind controlling, I think that Cipher in Pillows 1/2 is the strongest character class in ANY RPG.

I keep hearing that but I am just burned out by Obs games. Didn't even try POE2, tried Tyranny twice and didn't make it past the 5h mark.

Tyranny I hated. Pillows 2 is 75% off on steam. I would personally give a chance.

BEfore my travel, played a bit of Pillows 2, this time soloing not as a Psion but as a Mindstalker, Psion/Trickster. OMG, soloing stuff with thieves abilities is so easier. Cipher still my favorite class but I'm liking more multiclassing now.

If I'm surrounded by all sides and no place to hide, I can just use smoke bomb. A lot of encounters got trivialized by thieves abilities. I now think that I can beat the DLCs which I couldn't in solo Psion PotD run.

I thought it was asking about PoE (Path of Exile) and picked Rogue ("butcher" as I call it).
For Pillars of Eternity I played fighter that I recall (those guys with the death-head thing), but it has been quite a long while since I played so I might be wrong. Used to be a very dear game to me for some reason, but after finding out they removed mentions of a guy suiciding after he found out the "woman" he slept with was a man (a thing that was added by donations I believe and then removed by the woke mob's request that I recall), I am not sure I will play it again unless there is reason to.
