I liked Sazh. Not my most favorite FF13 party member (that would go to Snow and Fang), but he was upbeat and not a debbie downer backstabber like Lightning or Hope. He is also exceptional - both in the FF series and in JRPGs in general - for being a father.

Mordin Solus - Mass Effect 2 and 3
Very pragmatic, and a scientist that takes action is always a welcome sight. Don't like his redemption arc in ME3 but he still shines in 2.

Tali - Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3
Although she's not much in ME1 beyond an enthusiastic ship engineering geek that serves as an exposition tool for the player to know about the Quarian, her growing involvement with the Quarian fleet and the Geth menace in ME2 and 3 makes for some great, memorable scenes, as well as excellently encapsulating the Quarian yearning to return to their homeland and the risks associated.

Grumpy old dwarf, really liked his personality overall but also his inner wrestling with his faith.

So few genuinely evil companions, especially in newer games.

Ember - Pathfinder: Wrath of The Righteous
Ember is... unique. Not even sure I'd call her a character, but rather a walking occurrence. A moving ball of redemption, indiscriminately trying to see the good in all villains that cross her path (which can lead to some amusing situations), she's propped up as a born-again saintess and little you can say will sway her mind. Very odd, but very memorable.

This little scurvy rat. It's not often you see someone in your party trying to undermine your authority at every opportunity. Survival of the fittest is central to her character, which can be an interesting avenue to make you, The Commander, consider a more pragmatic approach to power, and it's also intriguing to see how far she's willing to go to reach for power herself.

Rare to see someone unapologetically embracing excellence in this series. Breath of fresh air character.

A regular street hoodlum with a heart of gold. I just really like this archetype, and this is quite a good take on it.

Rise Kujikawa - Persona 4
An upbeat personality and mischievous streak make most scenes with her at least somewhat amusing, if not outright funny. Her personal quest regarding the social pitfalls and dangerous expectations involved in being a public personality and the inner corruption of the modelling industry she's a part of give her have a more refined, insightful side that neatly contrasts her everyday persona.

Hard to point something out really, only really older crpgs and jrpgs had interesting characters maybe and my memory is really bad. Most Games from the last 10years mostly have the reddit persona npcs or the usual boring tropes. Compared to anime or book characters they cant compete at all.
Asgar Serran

Liked this one from Vampires Dawn when that game came out like 25 years ago or so. But probably just because he was more edgy than most other characters I knew back then.
Most recent one the Gnome guy from Pathfinder 2 is a very good choice I guess even for the bad strength he had, most of the time he was quite reasonable. If not I could only really choose mostly silent characters or pets.

"I don't care what they tell you in College of Winterhold, Tiber Septim was a Redguard.β
My favorites were already posted so I'll just mention Raul from New Vegas.
I actually like Lae'zel, at least until mid Act2, stopped playing at Moonrise Towers (**** story, **** setting, **** writing. great production values, great reactivity).
Believable strong yet unsecure female companion. Good stuff. Great voice acting, but the actress can die in a fire, ugh.

I almost added him.
I'll give him the scene where he tries to reconnect with his son in Lightning Returns.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: β May 7th, 2026, 04:45I liked Sazh. And Snow and Hope were my favourite party members. I really liked the dynamic between the two. Hope being forced to work with the man he thought killed his mother made for some excellent drama imo.

I would nominate one or two of 5's companions, but I only know them from streams so I can't in good conscience say I know their characters well. But the game does look promising.Bhaalspawn Jr wrote: β May 7th, 2026, 14:47Bro... I totally forgot about Persona! I've only played 3 and 4, but ****, what casts! Based on the critical reception, it sounds like the best one in the series.Valter wrote: β May 7th, 2026, 14:51I would nominate one or two of 5's companions, but I only know them from streams so I can't in good conscience say I know their characters well.
