I just can't see why anyone would want to play Spyguard.

Hahahaha who could have seen that coming...
That one goes in the "hooray!" thread.
Maybe he wasn't wrong. It is a pretty big thing: A big FAILURE. I hope he can predict the next failure, so I know whose stock to short.RangerBoo wrote: β January 27th, 2026, 23:40I"ll like to point out that Geoff Keighely decided to destroy whatever reputation he and the Game Awards still had by advertising the hell out of this game as the "next big thing". Hopefully now nobody will take him or the Game Awards seriously anymore after this.
Always enjoy how hopelessly out of touch these people are with reality.

Based on that little theory that people remember most what they've seen or heard last in a speech or retelling of events, all advertisements at any large shows like this one tend to be charged more as the event goes on, with the last ad being the most expensive one.J1M wrote: β March 3rd, 2026, 21:17Someone explain what Geoff did. I'm not going to watch the game awards to understand.

Given that no one (except @Finarfin) can sit through the whole thing, they should charge most at the beginning and make everything after the first 10 minutes free.The_Mask wrote: β March 3rd, 2026, 21:40Based on that little theory that people remember most what they've seen or heard last in a speech or retelling of events, all advertisements at any large shows like this one tend to be charged more as the event goes on, with the last ad being the most expensive one.J1M wrote: β March 3rd, 2026, 21:17Someone explain what Geoff did. Not unexpected when you combine hubris and working in a bubble of 'yes men'. The entire manifesto the former dev put out came across as completely out of touch with reality.Steel-Knight wrote: β March 4th, 2026, 12:35They really thought this game was going to be the "next big thing", when it offers basically nothing of particular note that other shooters out there don't have.

Nothing about Marathon appeals to me. Between the hype videos before the server slam and the deconstruction videos afterward, I never saw any gameplay, systems, or features that struck me as "You need to play this!". In fact, the color palette choices, the UI/UX design, and the $40 price tag did the opposite essentially.Norfleet wrote: β March 5th, 2026, 00:49Just wait, Concord 3 drops today, hot on the heels of the failure of Concord 2.
Probably because, as is typical of Gookslop, it is very pretty.sheet wrote: β March 5th, 2026, 13:24Why did Arc Raiders succeed though? From what I've seen of it, it looks just like all these other bland games

I think "Bungie Bad" is a pretty common take these days, probably right under Bethesda Bad. It transcends anything related to the culture war.Rienen wrote: β March 5th, 2026, 13:28For better or worse, there is name recognition with "Bungie". The general populace is going to only know "Bungie Good" because that's what they've been programmed to believe by nostalgia and games media. And we all have to know that shills and media are going to be playing defense HARD with this one. Any win will be celebrated loudly and propped up as "owning the chuds". While any setback or negativity will be demonized and brushed off as "toxic gamers".
My inability to perform the mental gymnastics required to be Woke while hating the consequences of Woke is probably related to my inability to accept Atheism as my religious foundation when it can't provide any evidence for its claim that supernatural things as a whole do not exist. I genuinely have a hard time of understanding why people can just say "Yeah, I like Marxian ideas, but I don't like when the natural consequences of those ideas rail me in the arse!" And then when someone points out how X thing you liked is now bad because of your ideas, you sperg out.stormvermin wrote: β March 5th, 2026, 14:42I think "Bungie Bad" is a pretty common take these days, probably right under Bethesda Bad. Player count peaked at like 88k. Budget $250mm. Is spending $3k per concurrent player a success to you? BTW, it seems to be trending down, not up. It will be like 20k in a few months.sheet wrote: β March 5th, 2026, 20:21Welp, Marathon's looking like a success. Gamers deserve the industry.
Yeah, it's not sinking as hard and fast as the previous Concords, but it's definitely shaping out to be Concord 3.DDC wrote: β March 8th, 2026, 04:33Player count peaked at like 88k. Budget $250mm.
