It’s been five years since The Last of Us Part II and the Demon’s Souls remake dropped. Wild how much time has passed.

I remember when the TLOU sequel felt like a distant pipedream for many. When it finally launched, and Neil outright spat in the fanbase’s face by killing Joel in such a degrading way, the buzz sharply died down, and Naughty Dog’s image has been damaged ever since. I don’t even see anyone talking about the recent remaster for TLOU II on PC.

Feels like the world froze there, and everything’s only gotten worse overall after covid, not just in gaming.

Were console generation launches always as dry and disappointing as they feel today with the eighth and ninth gens? The PS2 launched with 29 games, but only 15 were exclusives, and most did not seem all that exciting.

You could argue for Armored Core 2 if you were into mecha. Evergrace and Eternal Ring were niche since few people knew FromSoftware back then. Ridge Racer was fun if you liked arcade racers, same with Tekken Tag and other fighters.

Beyond that, the lineup was not anything special. I doubt kids were begging their parents for a PS2 just to play Swing Away Golf. Some frat boys probably picked it up to try the latest sports stuff. Maybe console launches were always like this, the better games came later, so buying at launch rarely made much sense.

Mario 64 and Wii Sports were absolutely driving sales and providing novel gaming experiences.

Wii Sports came bundled with every Wii, so I’m not sure how that supports your argument. Bundling new releases with consoles didn’t fully work out for Sony and Horizon Zero Dawn for whatever reason.

Its going to **** for way longer already. The xbox360 era was pretty much the last with lots of games and no life service **** everywhere.

Because many people bought the Wii just to play Wii Sports.

The bundle was a big system seller for the elderly. I recall a lot of retirement homes would purchase multiple consoles just for Wii Sports.

Because the amount of notable games it has is equivalent to it having been released yesterday.

I think just about the only good game it has that didn't come to the PC is Unicorn Overlord? Returnal is the best overall PS5 game (and I'm not downplaying that, because it's great), but with that and many others coming to the PC, they really have no noteworthy exclusives.

You're not getting a birthday thread on your 30th for this comment.
If I'm still posting here at 30 I'll be blowing my brains out anyway

Was COVID the reason though or are we just using COVID as a point on a timeline

I think even if Sony waited until 2030 to release the PS6, that still wouldn't be enough time to release a decent batch of exclusives. They wasted 5 years on live service drek, and it takes 5 years just to release some 5/10-6/10 movie game. They're ****** at this point.

I know I'm supposed to know what that joke would be, but I don't and I choose to take that as a sign of purity.
