depends on what factions you care most about playing, i suppose.

3 is effectively the definitive version of the game now with all the factions and immortal empires, but has some questionable decisions mechanics wise (and a bit buggier).

they left game 2 in a pretty good state before moving on to 3, so it's arguably better if you don't really care about what was added in 3. that said it's kinda hard to go back to 2 when there's no Daemons, Ogres, or Chaos Dwarfs

Didn't they do something where you have to have all 3 installed for some grand campaign? I dread to think how much diskspace that needs.

They made it so you can play Immortal Empires (the giga grand campaign that effectively has the whole Warhammer world map) even if you only own game 3. Owning games 1, 2 and their respective dlcs let you play as the factions from em.
So if you only own game 3 you'll only be able to play the base game factions from it and not, say, Empire or Greenskins, etc etc

but ye you don't need em installed lol

I can hardly play that campaign for all the squishing of landmasses and oceans they did. It's like if in EU4 NA would be as far away from Britain as France, as an example. Ruins my immersion, and there are no "realistic proportions" map mods that I know of, either.

@Oyster Sauce Awesome, but I wish there was something like this for the whole world. Not as detailed, but with the realistic proportions of this. I'd be fine with just unstretching the landmasses and enlarging the oceans, the provinces can all stay the same, more would be luxury for me. Will give this a try though, after I sorted out which mods to use as the game is garbage in its vanilla state.

Remember to use CreamAPI to get all of the DLC for free!

Old World campaign mod is noice, that said if you're playing a faction that doesn't belong in the Old World (High/Dark elves, Lizardmen) they're either not included in the map at all or have ******** asspull starting positions. Hell even some of the factions that are normally in the Old World get random *** starting spots. Really wish someone would make a 'lore friendly starting positions' mod, would much prefer it where every race is in their own home territory.

That said i did a Clan Mors playthrough of the Old World, was pretty noice having a proper 3 way war with Belegar and Skarsnik for Karak Eight Peaks, and having it so that each peak of the mountain is a settlement:

Dont ask me how i know but total warhammer has some unironically great mods on gamers underworld. Full on slaneeshi themed expansions that legit feel more robust and fleshed out then the officil dlcs that CA would never have the balls to make.

They made it so you can play Immortal Empires (the giga grand campaign that effectively has the whole Warhammer world map) even if you only own game 3. Owning games 1, 2 and their respective dlcs let you play as the factions from em.
So if you only own game 3 you'll only be able to play the base game factions from it and not, say, Empire or Greenskins, etc etc

but ye you don't need em installed lol

I tested it and could only hear male voice in the battle I played, strange. So it seems to work as intended.

I’ve heard that is a problem specific to TW 2. I’ve been playing 3 and don’t have the same issue. 2 is generally agreed to have very aggressive and player-biased AI, which a lot of people actually prefer.

Yeah, no matter which CreamAPI I download it isn't similar to the one I used. Last one I downloaded just had a bunch of files, the one I used had an exe, with which you selected the game and then generate the files I think.

I like how orcs have that "waaagh" thing that basically just says sorry you have to lose now. I should have won a good 30 turns ago but they kept just magically getting to double the size of their faction every few turns and now they have double armies on every single army despite doing nothing but lose for the past like 50 turns because (??????)

EDIT: Okay I think that's the end of my Total War experiment. Completely wasted my time multiple nights doing a war that was literally a chore obligation out of a desperate hope the game would let me go back to having fun at some point and instead I just got told "nah" at every turn. **** this.
