Surely if it wasn't an accident, Boon would have finished the job while tending my wounds...
Never the less, I'll bid 1 Turtle Coin on a desert armor set or subdermal armor implant for Duke just in case Boon gets trigger happy again.
If I don't win on either of these I'd like to use it to trigger a beautiful aurora in the sky.

Tailoring specialising makes sense to me unless you need components now.
Also I would like to bid 3 coins for the Subdermal Armor Implant for Chuck.
(I didn't see Jordy bid on it before, just thought it was the most useful item there to splash out on)

Episode 8: Face/Off
The day begins with Stack cornering a guest in the bathroom.

Everybody else gathers to tear apart this ancient machine for the sweet sweet rewards within.

After taking some fire, it starts to hiss and emit flames before violently exploding.

That's a lot more fire than expected. Everybody rushes in to beat the flames out and prevent to goods from melting.

An ancient transponder lies within, and Rusty decrypts it back at the research bench.

We can now use it to signal an orbiting mechanitor ship to land nearby.

And so we do!

The ship contains the remains of a long-dead mechanitor. The implant in her skull is what we're after.

The mechanoids take the offensive and we take defensive positions.

Black Dog lays into them with his P90, but a slug finds its way through the embrasure and he takes a nasty blow to the face. He keeps laying down fire though.

Boon gets to show off his new gauss rifle. It has ridiculous armor penetration with its sabot rounds.

Our trained warturtles catch up and hang out inside the bunker. Not much use for them this fight.

The battle won, Vitya extracts the implant from the skeletal remains and slams it into his own head. He gets a Turtle Coin™ for taking this responsibility upon himself.

A basic construction mech touches down from orbit and immediately gets to work under Vitya's command. The first of many, hopefully.

Turns out that shot Jet took blew his jaw and tongue clean off. Basically a Malak situation, except without the implant that would let him speak. Among other problems this causes, it also takes him 10 times as long to eat now. At least it can't get much worse for him.

The little robro gets to work. He's not particularly fast at construction, but he also doesn't need breaks aside from the occasional recharge.

A genetics supply ship in orbit makes contact and we trade gold for a bunch of medicine and components.

Congratulations to Chuck for winning the subdermal armor implant auction! Unfortunately, the surgery was a complete failure and he nearly died on the operating table. No refunds.

We learn that the coveted HQ Platinum is nearby. Nothing to do now but wait for opportunities to learn more though.

Some shambling corpses show up. Apparently we could have captured them for research purposes, but we wound up putting them down permanently.

Starting to see rolling blackouts with all the new machinery and lighting we've set up. Gotta unplug some of them and set up more wind turbines.

A mechanoid siege force suddenly drops the sky and takes a fortified position.

That big mortar in the center will continuously lob shells at us unless we go take care of it. The other machines are lying dormant until we **** with them.

Basically everybody who can handle a rifle is sent to deal with this. Our .303 rounds in our standard issue rifles aren't exactly a great counter to big robots.

Kalarion and Duke take up position as bait to the south since they took the suits of power armor. The plan is to have the riflemen overwhelm anything that tries to rush the duo. A minigun squad holds the north flank in case enemies try to push from that direction.

Duke hurls a molotov inside which turns out to be unnecessary as an inferno turret launches a shot his way and ignites everything anyway.

Our loyal warturtles arrives and serve as cannon fodder while everybody else takes shots.

With only turrets and the mortar remaining, we double back and hit them from the north using smoke grenades to cover the advance. It... kind of works but a few shots make it through and inflict some pretty bad wounds.

Turrets down, we pull back a bit and shoot up the mortar.

It starts to hiss and we all know the drill. The turtle who closed into melee range less so

The shells that landed in our base didn't do TOO much damage. Mostly igniting a few crops and destroying a couple feet of power conduit.

Taking care of injuries. It turns out Black Dog had an eye blown out by a charged turret round. There isn't much left of this guy's face. The simple helmets we have only cover the head and ears. The poor ******* can have a Turtle Coin™.

Fallen turtles on the field of battle. There's a survivor in the middle there... but his little turtle spine has been shattered, leaving him paralyzed for life.

A herd of muffalo goes mad and attacks us which is actually very convenient since we were going to go out and hunt them anyway.

A dusk prowler wilds out on a passing group of travelers.

Raviola breaks down and starts wandering around confused because of her dementia

Kalarion becomes a legendary master of construction. His iconic backpack will one day be revered as a mythic item with special properties that can be found by future colonies, but for us it's just his regular old backpack. That definitely deserves a Turtle Coin™

Building a little prison area.

What do they eat?

Our little paralyzed turtle has been secured. What should we do with her? We could MAID hher, or continue feeding her hoping to find a way to fix her in the future. If she's sticking around, we might as well figure out a name for her too.

A war goods trader from the Eastern Republic shows up. They take our old flintlocks and shortbows and give us some jerky and medicine.

Also Stack buys a pair of arctic wolves.

Vitya gets a little station set up for his mechanitor business. The machine at the top recharges mechs, the middle one produces subcores, and the bottom one takes steel and subcores and gestates them into new mechs. You can see the types we know how to make on the left, and he has enough bandwidth in his skull to support up to 6 mechs. @Vitya can decide which ones he wants to build.

Although he does start gestating a lifter just to see how it works.

Now that everybody has healed up from the last fight, we need to go deal with an emerging insect hive about a day's walk to the north before they get dug in and become a serious long-term problem. That cataphract helmet is top of the line and offers a hell of lot more protection than the buckets we have now. Bid your Turtle Coins™ if you want to secure your jaw and eyes today!

VAE VICTIS
Episode 9: Rusty's Roughnecks
Bugs.

Lots of bugs.

Too many bugs.

Thirteen stand against many.

Chuck calls upon the wisdom of his Aboriginal Australian ancestors and tells everyone to hurl Molotovs to create a wall of fire and smoke out the insectoids.

And then the shooting starts.
With the bulk of the insects bleeding out and burning up on the ground behind them, the squad moves forward and starts smashing up their hives to prevent them from reforming and spreading further.

That fire will probably put itself at some point.

Back home, Dorf, his wife, Raviola, and the bot keep things running. Mostly the bot.

There and back again.

Dorf's wife gets hit with chronic kidney disease. She is pushing 60 after all.

Vitya creates a hauler bot for us. It's a low priority work type in general, so being able to pass it off onto the bot is so very useful.

Though all of those mechanoid buildings are starting to produce waste. Surely that won't catch up with us later.

A group of cultists move in and start performing a ritual to summon fleshbeasts to attack us.

Would be a lot more threatening if they didn't start within rifle range.

They bravely charge through our bullets to light our tomatoes on fire.

Evil cloth robes don't offer the best protection.

Our new agrihand bot works the fields despite the corpses.

It turns out these idiots have a "death refusal" ability that allows them to resurrect one time after being killed. Doesn't protect them from being shot in the face again though.

More baskets in the freezer to accommodate the extra crops this year. Herbal medicine will rot eventually so we keep the surplus here.

We got an unstable power cell from that mechanoid raid the other day. It generates a steady 400W of power constantly, but will explode horrifically if it takes damage. Should be safe all walled in probably maybe.

Chuck grabs a piercer rifle that one of the cultists dropped. The bayonet is particularly good for him due to his high melee skill.

Then he starts rolling cigarettes with the tobacco we grew. Who wants to take up smoking?

BD gets a denture installed, letting him vocalize once more.

A psychic storm strikes. Could last anywhere between a few days and a season.

So maybe it's a good idea to take Wilson up on his offer to ferry us out to an ancient complex and search for the coveted HQ Platinum.
