Ohh that thing. I don't remember much of it (weird how the brain filters out what it doesn't care about), but I looked it up and sort of remember the sound effect.
How's that simon says though, wasn't it just getting the arrow to the middle?
Oyster is very old, he gets confused. Don't be a ****.

"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
Yea you should probably stop doing that. The people making Exodus are the people who killed Mass Effect.

This is a trick. You have to leave your socks on or you'll lose.Vergil wrote: β March 28th, 2025, 18:50Simon says take off your shoes. Socks too.

This is the Mass Effect 1 build that a few of us were referring to earlier that is fun and not possible in the later installments.

Thinking about replaying the games as something besides a soldier for once...

People say biotics are fun but it never felt right for the representative of peak humanity to just have genetic vaccine space magic. I originally played 1 as an engineer but it sucked when 2 came out so I've strictly been a soldier since.Vergil wrote: β March 30th, 2025, 00:13Thinking about replaying the games as something besides a soldier for once...
Mass Effect always felt too hard Sci fi for the space magic to not feel really out of place.

I'd recommend Vanguard for Mass Effect 2. Biotic Charge is fun. For Mass Effect 3, you can play as a pure biotic (no guns). The way you can somewhat curve your shots around cover is how I imagine a Gambit 3rd person game would play.Vergil wrote: β March 30th, 2025, 00:13Thinking about replaying the games as something besides a soldier for once...
The key to succeeding with biotics in Mass Effect 3 is the combo system. Most of the damage comes from using a second biotic power to detonate the first. This is not well explained in-game.Oyster Sauce wrote: β March 30th, 2025, 00:17People say biotics are fun but it never felt right for the representative of peak humanity to just have genetic vaccine space magic. Vanguard is indeed fun in the first and second. Dunno about the 3rd.J1M wrote: β March 30th, 2025, 00:18I'd recommend Vanguard for Mass Effect 2. Biotic Charge is fun. Vanguard with a sniper rifle, even better.
Although I hate the combat of the 2nd, biotic charging in and blasting some dude with a shotgun felt good.
Can you elaborate about what the appeal would be in ME1 given that Biotic Charge doesn't exist?BobT wrote: β March 30th, 2025, 00:43Vanguard is indeed fun in the first and second. Engineer / techy stuff isn't as much my style in that game, doesn't add much to the combat elements.
Sniper is alright but much is closer range.
Pure biotic (although I normally love to play a "mage") is a little gay in that environment, and misses out on cool sci-fi guns.
Therefore, Vanguard seemed the best of both worlds. Pewpew shooty shooty with cool shotguns, with biotic abilities for backup. The only biotic thing you're missing is that maelstrom or whatever it's called, and you get good combat abilities, too. Tag that in with the basic ability to use a sniper rifle (just the ability to zoom) and you're a good all-rounder. You can even use the assault rifle a bit when feel like it, but have the shotgun when you need power, and biotic abilities to support.
I played with Tali and Wrex mostly (Garrus just on long-range missions), so could start combat by strategically slinging biotics around from all 3 of us, then run in and start blasting.
It just seemed a good all-round fun blend, and fit the context with someone who should be a generic, very highly trained and versatile best-of-best spec-ops agent.
I can't remember much of the Vanguard's combat abilities (besides biotics) but it was still fun, and I think there was some sort of biotic shield too? Which combo'd well when fighting close range. Unless I'm misremembering there was some sort of "Push" biotic too? Where you could use that to stop someone, then blast them with the shotgun.
Everything just tied in well with whatever you needed for the situation, rather than being a single cookie-cutter playstyle or boring hold-finger-on-trigger Soldier.

Mass Effect is such an easy baby tier game difficulty wise I can't imagine needing to engage in min max build faggotry tbh

It would be more interesting to think of ways of how to vary soldier gameplay than have space magic*. Maybe flesh out melee more, think of more powers and stuff. Make armor types actually do stuff.
Deeper design vs wider design space
Have spess magic for shepard, anyways. * Guess it was fine on aliens.
