So it's pretty heavily implied that the Courier is not in control of Yes Man. ****, that was my go-to ending :rip:

Cut content isn't canon. Sawyer said his intent was that Yes Man only obeys your will.
In the Independent ending, Yes Man talks about finding some code in Mr Houses database that will let him be more assertive. Is this just an artifact of a time when you were considering allowing post-ending gameplay?
No. John Gonzalez wrote those lines to assuage potential player fears that other people would manipulate Yes Man if/when the Courier wasn't around. Yes Man is programmed to do anything anyone tells him to do. This is convenient for the Courier but a liability if Yes Man is intended to help coordinate things in New Vegas after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam.
There has been a lot of discussion about the Independent ending of New Vegas lately, so can you clarify a few things? Does the ending allow for the Courier to establish his/her own idea for a nation in the Mojave after Hoover Dam? If not, then why not?
It's intentionally vague because it's the independent ending. Even if the Courier walks off into the sunset, the implication is that Yes Man can more-or-less keep things running.

People are so desperate to make the Yes Man ending not the obvious best wish fulfillment ending it is.
I'm just stating the facts.
Question is are you going to gargle the truth or swallow?

I let vortex download a recent modlist while I worked, and when I came back to install it, it hung at 99%. I did something, it worked and I could play, but VUI+ needed installed, so I quit and installed it. The game wouldn't boot again, and vortex told me my version of the game isn't current, even though it obviously is. I just wanted a list that added the fps animations, movement, better integrated the dlcs, improved menus, and made power armor feel good. Combining stewies tweaks, adding more ambient music, foggy/dusty lod, and removing the orange tint to round it out.

I followed Viva New Vegas' install guide, and then I installed Nuevo Mojave. Its a good modlist, but I'd trim it a bit further. The third person animations were still jank, so I'm only playing in first person, which is helped by all the cool fp immershun anims. I'm happy with the options in stewie's tweaks. I had to add a delay dlc mod, and overhaul the ambient music system. The terrain textures are ****** up, but I'm not sure what to do about all the tiling, because I don't think any of the mods touch landscapes.

Just grab some nice hi-res dirt and dust images, or take some with a halfway decent camera, then ask AI to make then tessellate.

This game's been particularly hard to revisit, just because the scale is really throwing me off. I can't help but remember going in real life and how impossible walking any of this would be during the day. No other game I've returned to has given me this feeling, as if I've outgrown playing it.

NV doesn't need a remaster, any ****** can still mod it; what it needs is a TESAnnwyn treatment. Scale the world up by a hundred times, implement good vehicle combats, and make the sun deadly.

That's another glaring problem with BGS-style games. They're too cramped and exp is everywhere. I can get into melee with powder gangers and wipe the floor with them for exp and loot, its harder to do this with raiders in earlier Fallouts, as rewarding as those encounters were.

Its a theme park.

Probably had something going bad on deployment, such issues are very common if you **** up.

Last time I finished a modlist (about a year now) I installed stewie tweaks and set XP multiplier to 0.5

Works like a charm for me honestly, level up takes a long while but it's enjoyable because the game is beatable if you specialize in something.

I personally like to go for repair/medicine, nice crafteable ammo and good health regen.

About early Fallouts, nah, you can farm XP so ******* easy you can be high level and get a ton of good gear really early if you know what you're doing and build the right character. But there's definitely a big difference lol.

Agreed, I could mod this game (and any other Bethesda game) as a kid just by dropping the crap in the data folder, anyone can do this nowadays a billion times easier with MO2 or even Vortex (which despite what many might say, it's a great mod manager and very user friendly).

There's a mod called Nova Arizona adding in more to the map and it's pretty decent if a little underdeveloped right now, but it has potential :pipe-hat:

I agree with the vehicle combat thing, it's a shame the people who somehow did manage to do it are also a bunch of morons lol I don't wanna be disrespectful but they got all the **** they need to make this into a reality yet the won't even let anyone touch it.

You can cheese merchants and the librarian to become an early god in F1, but the game doesn't want you to. NV is designed with exp everywhere, it funnels you into exp. Its just a flaw in open world BGS design. Stewies is absolutely necessary for any playthrough. It needs a fix to make Tag skills opperate like older Fallouts, though.

Once again we find out that oddity system in UnderRail is the best way to implement exp in videogames.

Yeah, I mean you can very much meta-game FO1 to the point where you are leagues ahead of any enemy you encounter.

This is an issue in all RPG's though, so I don't really think it's avoidable unless you make all guns appropriately dangerous, and remove scaling HP.

This naturally trivialises certain encounters, but the only thing I could think that might solve this is adding sway to low skill levels, and gun jamming, and maintenance mechanics that punish you at the start but recede with increased skill.

Currency should also have a weight, and most importantly, NPC vendors need to actually discriminate on what they will buy. Otherwise you end up with infinity wealth, and the means to buy a solution to everything.
