Also, even before Games Workshop succumbed to the mindvirus, that company always had a trend of retconing stuff all the time in each subsequent edition.

The in-story reason was the concept of "unreliable narrator" because a galaxy is just so big and everything is fractured, while the real-life meta reason is that Games Workshop wants to change the meta all the time to stop one particular faction from being the best for long.
This isn't entirely true. While it's true that that is how James' Wokeshop came to use it after the marketing department essentially took control of the company, the "the galaxy is a big place" was always a principle even from Chris Priestley's and his friend's inception of the setting. They didn't "always have a trend of retconning stuff"; multiple competing narratives set at different times and different places was always a thing by design, and having 10 000 years and an entire galaxy to play with felt like a reasonable area to realise something like that; they had no intention or expectation that it would devolve into the kind of hyperfixated capeshit and homogenized garbage that it turned out to be in the end.

Yeah, I never had any interest in nu41k, and I'll never consider it canonical to WH40k. That said, the melanochrome isn't a persistent effect if it's working properly. It being on constant full power is likely part of why Salamanders are pitch black. It's one of those gene-seed corruptions a lot of chapters (and their successor chapters) "suffer" from.

Any mods that remove the random black and asian space marines before I play the second one (and the girlboss pajeeta) ? Currently playing through Space Marine 1 and it's really mediocre.

Edit: I just reached a turret level, this is really hitting all the tropes of a Xbox360/PS3 era third person shooter.

You're wearing rose-tinted glasses. The ****** TPS design of that era is un-fondly remembered for two cancerous ideas: cover-based shooting that was so exciting and dynamic, it made Duck Hunt look like Quake; and the "gritty" and "realistic" color palettes that best resembled the Ganges during a cowdung-worship festival.

Here is, no joke, the first screenshot I found from Gears of War 3, which came out that same year and was a best-seller that the gayming journos wouldn't stop fellating:

Image

SM1 wasn't a masterpiece or anything, and turret level is deffo a trope that looks silly nowadays. But it was well received as a breath of fresh air, because your roided-out superman (a) was charging and 'zerking instead of cowering behind a chest-high wall and taking potshots like a pussy, and (b) wore glorious smurf blue and gold and slaughtered green orks and purple daemons, instead of everything being smeared in desert brown so American teens could get psyopped into dying for Israel in the middle-east.

I was not talking about cover shooters, just third person shooters in general it can apply to any one of them. Being out in the open in this game is suicide thank God it has shields and a horrendous 5 second slow execution mechanic worse than new Dooms to help it along. Imagine not playing the game for 5 seconds straight everytime you want to heal in the middle of combat which you're gonna be doing a lot.

The game is not good or a breath of fresh air, I still haven't finished it because of how cookie cutter it is to all the 3rd person shooters I played that consist of hallways leading to boring cutscenes and then combat. I don't even like 40k I have no idea why I'm even playing this, I still haven't finished it.

Ironically, the only accomplished game developer from a communist country, Alexei Pajintov, moved out to America first chance he got.
