Does anyone know what the relation, if any, between Sword & Fairy("Chinese Paladin") and Heroes of Jin Yong is?
[edit]
chatjeept says no relationship, Sword & Fairy is also xianxia whereas Heroes of Jin Yong is wuxia. Sword & Fairy is apparently just a chinese jrpg

I have never heard of Heroes of Jin Yong, but Chinese Paladin/Sword & Fairy was the one prominent RPG series that China had until there was a breakup within the company Softstar, leading to people splitting off to form a different one Aurogon and start the Gujian series. There used to be a rivalry between which one is the true successor and is the definitive Chinese RPG. Not so relevant nowadays with Mihoyo as the king of them all.rusty_shackleford wrote: β December 29th, 2025, 12:53Does anyone know what the relation, if any, between Sword & Fairy("Chinese Paladin") and Heroes of Jin Yong is?

Heroes of Jin Yong is what the Tale of Wuxia etc., games are all based on. Went over it somewhere in this thread if you wanted to dig for more contextVal the Moofia Boss wrote: β December 29th, 2025, 13:24I have never heard of Heroes of Jin Yong, but Chinese Paladin/Sword & Fairy was the one prominent RPG series that China had until there was a breakup within the company Softstar, leading to people splitting off to form a different one Aurogon and start the Gujian series. I didn't think that game was very good honestly. I defeated intro boss on hardest difficulty but it was mostly easy. There was so many bugs as well and the performance wasnt great for what it was. Visually it looks nice though, in some parts.Lhynn wrote: β October 18th, 2025, 04:14

Intro boss is an intro boss bro, they are never hard, even in hard games.DecadeRiptide wrote: β December 29th, 2025, 18:40I didn't think that game was very good honestly.
Been playing it for the past two weeks and im astounded at the breadth and depth of it, the only thing its missing is multiple outcomes for quests, but when you make an mmo I suppose thats never really in the cards.
True, it is just an intro boss. I think it was just really buggy though, which made it much easier than I feel it should've been.Lhynn wrote: β December 31st, 2025, 04:48Intro boss is an intro boss bro, they are never hard, even in hard games.DecadeRiptide wrote: β December 29th, 2025, 18:40I didn't think that game was very good honestly.

Also, I don't know why people keep referring to these gacha games as MMOs. It's more of a single player game with minimal multiplayer features. That's all.

Its an mmo. See the small icon at the top with a single head? Click on it, switch to online mode. Suddenly you join a world with thousands of players all over the map. Dunno why you would though, most content is single player exclusive. But you can use the online mode to do activities with others.DecadeRiptide wrote: β December 31st, 2025, 04:50Also, I don't know why people keep referring to these gacha games as MMOs. (translation to my own taste. Aka "Sword & Fairy" or "Chinese Paladin")
Start as a DOS game. The theme is Eastern high fantasy. It was famous for the non-happy ending. Some fanatic went as far as modding the game for a happy ending.
It's a game that spawned a franchrise. It had a similar cultural impact in China, Taiwan, HongKong, Macau, Singapore like FF7 has in Japan. The franchrise's golden era is around early 2000~2010s.
ιεΊΈηΎ€δΏ ε³, Heroes of ιεΊΈ
It's a crossover game incorporating characters from ιεΊΈ's novels.
ιεΊΈ's novels are mostly loosely connected (except the Condor trilogy), and does not take place in the same period. The game mixes it up.
ιεΊΈ's style is Eastern low fantasy. He wrote 15 novels from 1955~1969.
His novels' cultural impact is much deeper than the two above, especially the popular ones, like the Condor trilogy, The Eight Legions. Some even get obsessed enough to form a study about his works.
His golden era is around mid 1970 to early 2000s.
βΊ Show Spoiler
Eastern high fantasy: Has themes about ascension or cultivation, nonhuman races, cross-world politics. Everything goes.

New gacha coming soon, probably next week. Probably some of the best graphical fidelity among the batch, factorio type mechanics to build factories on conquered territory. The combat looks interesting, since while it looks action the game revolves around the usage of skillpoints you regenerate over time, thats where youll do most of the damage, sustain, etc.

Thats their previous game I think. That said, theyll probably call her if they add her character to this game.

**** programming, sometimes it creeps up.
I have been keeping an eye on it and will check it out and give some thoughts on it, but I do not anticipate liking it very much. I am not too into action combat, and the aesthetic of the overdesigned/busy outfits and the boring sterile environments is not that appealing. All of the characters look to be same-ily young, with the only novelty being the panda. The Helaghur expy was also turned into a young babyface too. Only character that looks kinda neat to me is Lifeng, but no one appealing. The only thing that seems to standout is the even higher quality menus/UI animations and art, and being able to fight with your other party members on the field which the other 3D gachas do not offer and instead force you to do unimmersive on the spot instant switching.Lhynn wrote: β January 13th, 2026, 19:51New gacha coming soon, probably next week. It will remain to be seen how well this game does in the long term. Current outlook is not great. Genshin and HSR were the first movers and appear to have achieved market saturation, with HSR splitting Genshin's audience. Then WuWa and ZZZ came out and had the WoW effect where a lot of people checked them out at launch, but then numbers plummeted afterwards and they only make a fraction of Genshin's/HSR's 100+ million USD monthly revenue. A new Genshin sized audience did not materialize out of thin air for these games, they are just fighting for Genshin's/HSR's leftovers. 20 Genshin clones were announced and are now just starting to release, and already two of them have attempted to get out of the gacha market (ANANTA announcing no gacha, Duet Night Abyss stripping out the gacha for a Warframe esque system), so I am guessing their market analysts think it'd be too competitive of a market. I am anticipating that many of these gachas will die, just like how most WoW clones died, MOBAs, online TCGs, hero shooters, etc.
I dont think this is true for wuwa. The community seems larger than ever. Ive heard censor tower only tracks revenue from mobile, so no way to know how much money wuwa is making on steam or playstation.Val the Moofia Boss wrote: β January 13th, 2026, 21:09numbers plummeted afterwards and they only make a fraction of Genshin's/HSR's 100+ million USD monthly revenue

@Poityu, are there enough good C(hinese)RPGs to justify learning how to read it? Would I miss out on a lot of wordplay if I skipped Chinese pronunciation and just read the characters according to the Japanese pronunciation? It's an idea I've been entertaining for a while.
Amazed by their latest trailer quality of animation, it flows so well its like it was hand made. Almost all the stiffness of the models is gone.
The way the character balanced the pen between her lip and her nose, or when shes chatting with her friends, dont think Ive seen a game do something on this level before.
Wonder if they used AI at some stage to get these results.

There's nothing funny about it. You're subhuman filth created in mockery of mankind, like your country's games, and this is my gaming opinion.
