One of the devs has been active on the official reddit for lotf and im going to post here some choice comments.
The dev explaining why they went with epic:

Recently there's been a controversy regarding one piece of concept art with the usual suspects claiming its either plagiarized from fromsoft or ai slop. Because the CEO, Marek, has taken a right leaning stance of late this has caused a lot of contempt that this concept art finally brought to the surface. The post in question:

A day later Marek responded to the xitter outrage:

I bring this up because this is what the dev on reddit had to say on that matter

I've always wondered how they were able to keep updating lotf (2023) while working on the sequel and thankfully we have an official answer

My suspicions of a skeleton crew have finally been confirmed.

My personal thoughts on the matter is it's unfortunate fromslop fans and x.com users (formerly the site known as twitter) are so profoundly ******** they don't see the irony of accusing CI games of copying Fromsofts homework when said bad faith criticism can easily be thrown right back at their beloved Fromslop. The greater irony is Fromsoft doesn't care and Miyazaki has outright said not only did he not invent the souls genre and claims no ownership of it but he also likes souls-likes and how other companies have been iterating on the formula.

“Yes, I do play other so-called ‘Soulslike’ games,” Miyazaki admits. “But not so much as a consumer but as research, so to speak.” He explains that due to him working with similar gameplay concepts, themes, and gameplay restraints, it’s always interesting to see different interpretations other studios or game designers put on the subgenre that FromSoftware perhaps haven’t thought of. “It’s very stimulating for me to be able to see it from many different angles, because we’re all working within the same sandbox, in a way.”

One of my biggest fears was they were just reskinning all the enemies from lotf (2023) for the sequel but to my surprise I actually have an answer regarding some of what we saw in the game awards trailer

The npcs that populate the main hub are called the Dauntless Guard

Some specific details regarding enemy variety

That's all I have for now. If I find anything of value I'll make another post.

To summarize my prior post
  • They took the epic deal because all of their sales came from console and made little money on pc so from their perspective having epic fund the game while retaining complete creative control at the cost of the game being stuck on a chinese malware store doesn't matter because their sales come from console anyway which the sequel will be on
  • The npcs that populate the main hub are part of a group called the Dauntless Guard
  • Enemies are not being reused from 2023 (that we know of) and gameplay shown in the reveal trailer had placeholder animations
  • The first faction you encounter has 13 enemies. If we assume that includes 1 boss and 2 minibosses that's still a good number. Hopefully it's not a quanity over quality situation.
  • mini bosses are unique and will not reappear
  • umbral has significantly more enemies and are technically the only constant in each region but more unlock as you progress
  • they were able to continue updating 2023 thanks to a skeleton crew

The devs are Polish, no? They're incapable of any creativity. It is likely indeed 'man'-made - by a Pole. :yuck:

Should probably make a dedicated souls-slop thread so I can discuss other souls-likes without ******** up some other discussion. On LOTF news most of it comes from some of the devs on reddit but the big thing is they confirmed if the game isn't ready they'll delay release until it is. I know we've all heard that one before but considering how badly they got egg on their face in 2023 I'm inclined to believe them. After all they only get one more shot at landing this series in peoples good graces. Also one of the few devs that are adamantly anti-woke now and not grifiting about making a game and yet never releasing it.

I think both Lords of the Fallen (original games and reboot) are horribly underrated and I'm looking forward to LOTF 2. Gameplay footage I saw looks like they sped it up some and added more combos to put it in a place halfway between Berserker Khazan and and FROM games.

Slept on this thread so I wasn't around to post Obsidian Entertainment's trooncord leaks which were relevant to the discussion.

As Josh Sawyer put it back in 2012
I think the game industry overall has generally been "left"-leaning. There are many potential reasons for this, but an obvious correlation is that most developers are in urban areas and urban areas tend to vote Democrat. That said, many games promote or implicitly validate "right"-leaning worldviews, especially military-oriented titles.
