Aren't MMO's the definition of slop? You're just grinding to see numbers go up and to fill the empty void in your soul.
Yea I love playing old MMOs that have like 30 years of content, ****'s great. They should start turning them into coop games
They tried that with THJ and got sued.
Because they were making a ton of money. Nobody would have cared if they just released it as a coop project like those UO total conversion things
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

The problem is, old MMOs don't have 30 years of content. They have maybe a few months of content, and then 29+ years of decaying, abandoned slop that no longer serves any actual useful purpose in the game.

FF11, WOW, LOTR online; there are some mmo's that have a decent amount of content.
It is all repetitive ******** but it can be enjoyable if you have nostalgia for the product.

The traditional Dunmer practices of ancestor worship are NOT necromancy. Only ignorant outlanders could confuse our sacred practices with the vile sorceries of necromancers.
Those N'wah can't seem to grasp the difference between communicating with our ancestors and literally ******* animating their corpses so that they walk around like mindless piles of flesh.

And how much of that content actually does anything relevant, vs. how much of it is abandoned slop that serves no actual useful purpose in the game?

Everquest 2 was an enjoyable slopgame with a ton of content, you can do most of it solo because you get a 'mercenary' companion. If you have a friend you can use your mercenaries together, including in dungeons.

This is the human experience. It's also why MMO's are addictive, because they trick you into thinking you're progressing.

Aside from cycling the same 5-7 MMOs, idle and incremental games are my go-to slop these days. In the past, I've also had seasons of slop with the match-3 and tower defense genres.

Bluntly, retail WoW looks like it would be a perfect slop game, for me (MMO with a ton of open world content that you can literally walk through without thinking), but I refuse to give Bliz any more money.

There is one claim that almost all of the money blizz gets monthly is from whales, not subs. IF they werent so greedy jws i believe wow free to play up until the last expac could make it one of the most popular games again

Make all expansions B2P with the option to P2P them. Make base F2P with restrictions for people who never gave them any money. Keep Classic P2P.

MMORPGs used to be good back in the days when they were about exploring & socializing in a new virtual world, until wow became a hit, then everything went downhill.

I honestly never really played many MMOs. The one I sunk the most hours into was a "Mario fangame" (Just a generic MMORPG engine game that had a Mario skin on it really) when I was a dumb kid who didn't know better. I ended up running the top PvP guild in the game... with a community of about 30 regulars, most of whom were younger than me.

As for "enjoyable slop" - I don't enjoy slop. But I do enjoy some games other people think are slop, like the Punch Out-like motion control game Dark Wind for the PS2. It has some quite good character models for the era - naturally at the expense of some of the backgrounds being full of imposters (yes, that is a technical term, you susbrained little children) even up-close. That game's obscure enough that I'd probably end up being the one to write the guide on unlocking everything... if I can remember how I did it.

People who don't see MMORPGS as elaborate chat rooms for nerds are probably Brazilian or the like
