► Show SpoilerVantage Master: the level late in the campaign where you start at the bottom of a hill with only one ley line within range and it would take several turns climbing up the hill to get to more ley lines, while the enemy summoner starts at the top of the hill and has half a dozen ley lines within a leisurely quick sprint downhill. He quickly summons lots of monsters and is raining projectiles down on me and my pitifully small army of summons. Several times during the battle I thought I was going to lose and should start over, but I didn't restart and instead persevering to the end. I climbed that hill, captured each ley line one by one, dismantled his army one by one, and eventually caught up to him and killed him.
Sakura Wars V: the level on the airship where you have to defend the two engines from a large incoming enemy force. Had to split my party into two teams guarding each engine, but I lost half of my team and the airship hadn't yet escaped yet. I thought I was going to get a gameover, or at the very least lose an engine and not S-rank the mission, but I kept going and persevered. I had Shinjiro flying back and forth fending off hoards of enemies while Kohei Tanaka's music was playing. We barely escaped by the skin of our teeth with no engines lost. Felt like a true hero.
Beating the final climatic mech battle of each Trails of Cold Steel game, which are the hardest battles in the series because you can't overlevel and your gearing options are limited. Watching my boy Jusis pop his S-craft and hurl the Holy Sword of Ishnard into the true final bosses of CS4 and Reverie on the highest difficulty. Beating the final mech battle in Trails into Reverie on Abyss difficulty.
Finally beating that one mission in chapter 3 of Aselia the Spirit of Eternity Sword after having spent two weeks stuck on it. The one where you have to invade the Republic and the road splits into three highways with several towns and cities you have to capture, at least two dozen enemy squads coming down those highways, and you also have the missable side objectives of capturing a magic crystal and killing a dragon superboss on the otherside of the map. And to achieve S-rank, you have to do all of this within the turn limit. S-ranking every mission in that game was a pain, but I was so powerful by the end that was kinda fun roflstomping the final level.
Finally beating Highlord Kruul - the tank mage tower challenge boss - in World of Warcraft after having spent a day wiping on the phase 1 boss Variss. Then I tried again the next morning and on my 3rd attempt I beat Variss and killed Kruul and got my artifact weapon.
Tactics Ogre PSP One Vision mod: Beating the final mission of Chaos route chapter 3 with two of my guys having died to kill the evil Lodis dark knights. Had that heavy feel after.

What is your best RPG moment?
that's epic, thanks for the long answer!
In Dragon Warrior 1 for the NES, if you talk to the princess, she asks if you love her, and you get a yes/no response. I kept telling that ***** NO but she wouldn’t listen and telling me I HAD to love her. I kept smashing the NO response for over an hour before my friend came over and found out what was going on. He managed to convince me to answer YES so I could escape the dialogue and continue with the game. I still think about how Nintendo forced me to **** to that princess sometimes and it pisses me off.
Yes. It's a prison / torture dungeon patrolled by mind flayers and other abominations. Very grim experience, at least in the original.AliciaDurge wrote: ↑ November 16th, 2024, 13:18Oof, do you mean like in an eerie way or?Element wrote: ↑ November 15th, 2024, 21:18Fortress of regrets in PST
Maiden Astraea boss fight in DeS, and the whole Tower of Latria from the same, one of the most unpleasantly atmospheric settings I've played in any genre
Lots of RPG moments if including pnp as well as computer role-playing games. But here's a favorite from the SSI Gold Box series "Gateway to the Savage Frontier".
There's a part of the adventure that involves stumbling across some dwarves hiding from a medusa in a shrine to Dumathoin. That's the dwarven deity "Keeper of Secrets Under the Mountain", and the dwarf fighter I always roll with had been a follower of Dumathoin. So it was a surprise and pretty cool to see this content included in Gateway. In the battle with the medusa, I had equipped a mirror in the off-hand slot, and was able to reflect the creature's gaze attack, destroying her.
As the evil snake woman turned toward me, her hair a nest of writhing vipers, eyes glowing; I snarled, "Leave this sanctuary of the dwarves!"
*raises mirror*
It was very satisfying.

Extremely surprised at the utter lack of Taash moments in this thread. Certainly its "coming out" dinner has to be way up there.

Yeah that sucks. I wouldn't like it either.Gunnar wrote: ↑ November 16th, 2024, 13:44In Dragon Warrior 1 for the NES, if you talk to the princess, she asks if you love her, and you get a yes/no response. Nice. Yeah using a mirror against Medusa type of monster is smart.Dorateen wrote: ↑ November 16th, 2024, 19:08Lots of RPG moments if including pnp as well as computer role-playing games. But here's a favorite from the SSI Gold Box series "Gateway to the Savage Frontier".

The subversion of RPGhq has begun. How many years until we have heretics amongst our moderation? Years from now, and we will look back and say "yeah, I was there, during the golden age... let's create a new forum!"
My favourite moment in RPG was in Dragon Age origins, when I as Dwarf noble supported Bhelens claim for the throne in Orzammar the entire time only for the last possible moment crown Harrowmont as the next king. Thats what that little piece of **** deserved and killing him afterwards was the most satisfying moment of the entire game... **** its a shame there was never any sequel for such a great game.

If I am playing as Dwarf Noble then yes, since Bhelen screwed me personally and the fruit of that revenge is the sweetest. Any other origin I always crown Bhelen as king and if you play as Dwarf commoner its actually to your personal benefit since your sister has a child with him. But since Dwarf Noble is my personal favourite origin of them all, my keep has Harrowmont as the king.Finarfin wrote: ↑ December 21st, 2024, 18:34So you like ruining orzammar by crowning harrowmont?merkon131 wrote: ↑ December 21st, 2024, 18:24My favourite moment in RPG was in Dragon Age origins, when I as Dwarf noble supported Bhelens claim for the throne in Orzammar the entire time only for the last possible moment crown Harrowmont as the next king. IMO no matter who you crown as a king Orzammar gets screwed. Its just that Harrowmont is more incompetent than Bhelen so the only time to choose him as a king is when you have personal grudge against Bhelen (hence Dwarf Noble origin).
Honestly, I hold dear my first experience with Diablo; the first time exploring the cathedral and catacombs levels. I'm going to get Hellfire and play through the game again sometime soon. It's been a long time.
Sounds great. ^^ Tbh I have it on my PC but last time I tried to play it my PC was like ”lol nope” and since DA is an old game, could that cause it?merkon131 wrote: ↑ December 21st, 2024, 18:24My favourite moment in RPG was in Dragon Age origins, when I as Dwarf noble supported Bhelens claim for the throne in Orzammar the entire time only for the last possible moment crown Harrowmont as the next king. Noice. I’ve been side-eyening that game bc it seems interesting.Breathe wrote: ↑ December 22nd, 2024, 02:59Honestly, I hold dear my first experience with Diablo; the first time exploring the cathedral and catacombs levels. I crowned him king because I don't like non-Humans and wish to see them fail.merkon131 wrote: ↑ December 22nd, 2024, 02:47IMO no matter who you crown as a king Orzammar gets screwed.
