Why isn't Ground Zeroes a part of the poll?. It's perhaps the best game in the series.

MGSV is the worst and has the absolute worst twist of pretty much any big budget game to ever be made btw
you're not snake, you're just some random cuckold who has been sissy hypno'd into believing he's snake.

The same reason the tanker chapter of MGS2 isn't listed separately either.
I'm just stating the facts.

Unlike the Tanker chapter, Ground Zeroes is a separate game and (I feel) it successfully condenses what makes The Phantom Pain good into a simpler, less bloated experience that is actually worth playing. The sole downside being the fact that you can't turn your radio buddy, Kaz, off.Vergil wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2024, 15:58The same reason the tanker chapter of MGS2 isn't listed separately either.
Every other Metal Gear game has the burden of being a C-tier Hollywood movie, but Ground Zeroes largely does away with that.

I was never big on the David Hayter controversy. Honestly I don't think it would've fit with the "realistic" visual style anyway, it sounds too gravelly and cartoonish.

Yes wacky stuff happens, but the voices do match the characters pretty well. I just can't see Hayter's gravelly voice fitting non-Snake's appearance
I liked that they hyped up how much they needed this new voice actor so that hey could have "Snake" barely talk throughout the entire game

Yeah, the copying was very heavy handed his better games. The Rock + James Bond + Escape from NY + some capeshit elements that predated Marvel movies.Vergil wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2024, 15:54The thing about Kojima is that he's a complete westaboo who copies movie and TV shows he likes. This was fine early in his career when the west was producing kino but now the "art" that inspires him are ****** A24 films and shows like the walking dead.
The less restraint outside influence exerted on his vision, the worse the games became, until finally even the normies had to admit to the cringe in Death Stranding.
The original voice was/is iconic.KnightoftheWind wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2024, 16:22Yes wacky stuff happens, but the voices do match the characters pretty well. I just can't see Hayter's gravelly voice fitting non-Snake's appearance
But Hayter did seem to be strained to keep that voice in Peacewalker, so Kojima pulled the trigger.
He was directed to do the old Snake voice. He can do normal Snake just fine to this day.Element wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2024, 17:22But Hayter did seem to be strained to keep that voice in Peacewalker, so Kojima pulled the trigger.

Replacing Hayter is one thing, but they couldn't at least try to get Keifer to pronounce characters names the name way? Frigging mushmouth.
Kojima is too busy having homoerotic dinner dates with TV actors he rikes.Oyster Sauce wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2024, 17:53Replacing Hayter is one thing, but they couldn't at least try to get Keifer to pronounce characters names the name way? Frigging mushmouth.

Now remembering the thousands of ******* who thought Bigger Boss was executing the niglets in the trailer instead of shooting the lock off of the cage
To be fair this game promised to be the game that would finally show how ******* dark and twisted! Big Boss was all along. MGSV was the first Metal Gear game I ever played. It was a comfy 80s merc simulator, except for all the ******** anime parts. Nothing like sneaking through a canyon and infiltrating a Soviet base and getting interrupted by ******* zombie super-soldiers. Or the aforementioned giant gundam. Or the giant literally flaming homosexual chasing you around.
I wish Kojima's tard wranglers would channel his nip autism into making more of the tiny nifty gameplay details instead of allowing him to fellate Hollywood actors and inject chinese cartoon **** everywhere. Building up Outer Heaven and going on a safari shooting ******* was the best part of that game.
Same goes for MGS3. And having to play in on a janky emulator didn't help my enjoyment any either.

"Oh, it all makes sense now, brother."
The game that should have inspired V was Mercenaries.

-open world mercenary sim
-3 factions
-they're constantly having skirmishes
-earn rep and cash by taking contracts from one, which also negatively affects your reputation with the others
-can load up a vehicle full of your homies and assault fortresses with them instead of using them in some **** minigame
-open world has a reason to exist

I don't know why Kojimbo made a game (MGS V) where the plot is constantly mentioning opposing factions which wage war to each other but then not have that feature in the mechanics at all... when they had already a working faction mechanic in MGS4.
So you could experience the phantom pain of the good game you thought you were going to get to playSegata wrote: ↑ May 28th, 2024, 21:29I don't know why Kojimbo made a game (MGS V) where the plot is constantly mentioning opposing factions which wage war to each other but then not have that feature in the mechanics at all... when they had already a working faction mechanic in MGS4.

I have three points to make:
1. Solidus Snake is the only true hero of the MGS series and Did Nothing Wrong.
2. MGS4 is consistently underrated and I wish it would get a good PC port. One thing Metal Gear doesn't get much credit for is that it has perhaps the longest running plot continuity out of any video game. Metal Gear in 1987 all the way to MGS4 in 2008. No reboots. MGS4 delivered an epic and satisfying conclusion to all of that. It was a big deal to me because I am old enough to have played the original Metal Gear on the NES, to have read the "Worlds of Power" Metal Gear novel as a kid, bought every Metal Gear on launch day for decades, etc., so MGS4 needed to deliver (and it did, Return of the King style). No game will ever have that type of historical significance again, because anything they release now, even if it gets decades of sequels with a continuous plotline, will turn to **** long before it concludes (see: assassin's creed). On the other hand, the Metal Gear games consistently got better as tech improved, and were always at the forefront of pushing console capabilities.
3. MGS3 is consistently overrated. It didn't push the tech envelope beyond what MGS2 had achieved, and most of the bosses were rehashes of MGS1 and MGS2. The plot was unimportant and resulted in a long diversion to get a true sequel to MGS2. The two best parts of the game were the theme song and Young Ocelot, which were great but not enough to carry it.

Solidus Snake Did Nothing Wrong
He used child soldiers (which despite misconception Big Boss never actually did) and only went against the patriots because he personally didn't like being controlled. His extreme selfishness had the unintended benefit of possibly being better for others.DDC wrote: ↑ June 2nd, 2024, 06:25Solidus Snake is the only true hero of the MGS series and Did Nothing Wrong.
That's definitely not the consensus on MGS4 that I was brought up hearing so I'm glad it was satisfying to you. Back when I posted on MGSF MGS4 was despised. Nowadays I'm a bit more neutral on it. Kojima did the best he could with a game he never wanted to make and it at least did a good job feeling like a big conclusion and final close on the franchise (lol). There's still plenty of decisions I despise in it and parts of the game that make me apprehensive about a replay though.DDC wrote: ↑ June 2nd, 2024, 06:25MGS4 is consistently underrated and I wish it would get a good PC port. I think it's definitely overrated just by virtue of being the most popular one but it's a big reductive to call the bosses rehashes of MGS2 and I think it offered an new and interesting gameplay formula for the series. MGS2 perfected the gameplay style that started in Metal Gear 1 I really don't think there was much else to do except go in a new direction if a new game (that again Kojima didn't really want to make) had to be made.DDC wrote: ↑ June 2nd, 2024, 06:25MGS3 is consistently overrated. MGS2 was never meant to have a sequel and I think a prequel was a good fit and the plot did a lot to make Big Boss a real understandable character which he was sorely lacking for such an important character in the lore.
