Yeah, the Soul Reaver 1 intro might be one of the best intros in videogame history. Ozar Midrashim, too, is one of the best soundtracks in videogame history, and that helped.

Mediocre or bad games can still have parts that are good.

I'm not the biggest fan of Kingdom Hearts, but the intro and tutorial are so surreal. The rest of the series never lived up to what's presented here imo, except for maybe Hollow Bastion and the very end of the first game.

PS1 era game intros are my favourite. And in general I prefer the ones playing even before the main menu.

I've posted these all before somewhere, but makes sense to put em in the dedicated thread for it:

This was the best KH opening:

I never played past KH2 so I watched this for the first time, and in my completely and utterly biased opinion: It's not even remotely close to KH1 Simple and Clean intro. Not that it's bad, Simple and Clean is just the kind of song to live rent free in your head for decades, and going into KH1 without knowing anything and starting with that was legendary

I played through all of them for the first time last year, so the DDD opening really hit home for me with its recap of events up till that point. The first game's mysterious and ominous opening is incredible, but man, the orchestral rendition of Simple and Clean in the DDD opening is just the best imo.

That's fair, I could see feeling that way if I binged the series all at once. I first played KH1 when I was 9 and already a diehard FF *** (played VII through X) and obviously was really into Disney at that age too so I couldn't possibly be more hyped for a game. Didn't really know **** about it other than it was FF x Disney and that the box had the word SQUARESOFT whom I worshipped like Jesus Christ. Seeing that intro under those circumstances was absolutely mindblowing for me
