Obsidian used to create BioWare-style cinematic RPGs as well, but since Fallout: New Vegas, they've shifted to developing either isometric or first-person titles.

Todd, as far as I'm aware, has total say over what happens with internal projects at Bethesda. Even the other executives seemed to respect that. It's a very rare level of control for a non-CEO to have. (Vaughn seemed to have the say on external projects.)

And despite whatever your feelings on the releases, the games that Bethesda have released with Todd in that position have done very, very well for Bethesda... and likely allowed them to demand an arm and a leg (probably hundreds of them) from the Microsoft buyout.

It's more over than ever for Bethesda.

I was thinking if StarFailed was good?
  • 1 - Much less solar systems, but much more content in the few planets
  • 2 - No "everywhere is California in the space" BS, instead, there should be one Frontier planet, one Corpo planet, one democratic planet and one failed planet in the middle of a brutal civil war.
  • 3 - Even with a highly advanced sci fi ship, going from one planet to another would still take in game days.
  • 4 - Intersolar space travel would require a expensive fee to use a wormhole and still take days.
  • 5 -Attributes, skills and perks
  • 6 - Many dialog options would check your skills/attributes
  • 7 - Many quests will have many different solutions
  • 9 - No pronouns, body types would be endo/meso/ectomorph.
  • 10 - Psychokinesis & Telepathy BUT wouldn't be a "mana bar", instead would be something that requires insane high attributes to properly use, using too much would make your char dizzy, aim less steady, and eventually taking damage by using it. Before someone "muh space magic", psychokinesis breaks LESS physic laws than FTL travel. Starfield has "space shouts"
  • 11 - Using psy powers in corpo or democratic cities, mainly telepathy would be highly illegal and sensors would send the police to hunt you down. Even in self defense.
  • 12 - Different gravity in different planets, but most habitable and terraformed planets would have between .6g to 1.5g
  • 13 - Weapons would look like weapons, not toys
  • 14 - Forcefields would exist too
  • 15 - Vehicles, and vehicular combat

Interesting, Bethesda made their games completely in-house with western developers until a certain point.
I can't be bothered to look, but I suspect it's around the time they were bought by Microsoft*****.
If anyone wants to do the research I can't be arsed to, please post your findings.
You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

Bugthesda tries hard to make the WORST firearm design possible.

_______

I think that my suggestions would be "medium" sci-fi. Having some space fantasy elements like psionics BUT hard sci-fi elements, determining that societies wouldn't treat lightly someone that can crush a heart at a distance or dominate others, that such "fantasy" powers would have profound societal consequences, and that it makes sense that corporate places and bureaucratic places would outlaw it harshly (it makes courts, prisons, etc., irrelevant). Has FTL travel, BUT interstellar travel BUT is expensive and costly.

Bethesda's development team more than doubled in size between FO4 (2015) and 76 (2018), and tripled by Starfield. Looking at the credits, there aren't a lot of ***** at Bethesda proper but lots of poo covered hands in the external contracting studios.

I want them to go all in on proc gen with Starfield. I wanted Daggerfall 2, in space, but I wanted a single, handcrafted hub of civilization, something big, where you can trade, take jobs, buy charters or letters of marque, and go out again. I wanted everything else to be procgen, and the player can pillage, trade with, or fund any settlements along the way. I didn't want another themepark Bethesda game, but it looks like somebody tried to do both, and the result was steaming ****. Commit to one or the other.

Did someone here enjoy Starfield? Anyone?
No. I suffered through exactly 1 playthrough and barely got to the finish line. Tried going for a number 2 and uninstalled less than 5 minutes in. There are just no redeeming qualities there for me.

You ever play a game and it feels like features were added based on whatever someone higher up at the studio was playing at that specific point in time? That's how about half of Starfield feels

My main gripe with SF is that you don't start with anything resembling a class. They let you pick 3 perks but those modify your stats by a few % tops, so that whether you're a mouth frothing jarhead or some egghead nerd, you still start the game as an unstoppable killing machine who mows everything down with his side arm. And you don't even have to start specializing from there on, because you can accumulate as much as hundreds of perks throughout the game, you can practically respec your class midway through the game without actually respecing your perks, it doesn't matter. Has anyone tried mods that tackle this issue? Like something that gives you fewer perks throughout the game but makes them more consequential, and maybe throws you more perks at character creation

"Starfield's biggest free update yet, Free Lanes, and the new story DLC, Terran Armada, are both coming on April 7, bringing a new robotic threat, new tech, a new companion, and major upgrades to space travel, customization, New Game+, and much more. Best of all: Starfield is also officially launching on PlayStation 5 on April 7! "

Only some updates they have to advertise or nobody would know.

Edit: nvm it was xbox exclusive I guess.

Starfield doesn't have dismemberment/gore, so I assume the robots in the upcoming expansion are just going to ragdoll in a lame way instead of losing bits and pieces like they did in Binary Domain.
