By the same logic Baldur gate 1 is a ****** game since there is a collar that once equipped turns your character into a woman.
Most RPGs are woke

Starting playing Oblivion again to beeline to the Dark Brotherhood quests, the opening dungeon is 50 minutes long zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Couldn't even kill the Redguard who stayed behind to watch the Emperor's corpse to speed things up.

Measuring your time in tv episodes was supposed to convince me my assessment was incorrect? :|

A lot more happens in any given tv show. This is boring exposition, rat/goblin killing, and tutorial pop-ups.

If I didn't know you were a weird agender bug who eats dust I would accuse you of lying that the tutorial dungeon takes you that long btw

Oblivion is torn for me, in every way possible. It was when Emil began hacking away at the lore to suit his own interests, which are terrible and that italian ****** should have been laid off long ago.

I voted no, but I also wanted to vote yes. The fundamental issue I take with Oblivion is that it wanted so badly to emulate LOTR and traditional fantasy, but unlike Morrowind, it didn't ultimately stand out in any unique way beyond the charming AI and decent side quests. The reason I love Morrowind is the underlying themes and points being made that you continually catch glimpses of across the main quest and faction questlines. The Empire is levying heavy taxes, they're putting forts at all strategic points to constantly remind the natives who is in charge, and they are mining out the natural resources with exclusive rights/prices that put the Dunmer at a disadvantage. They're sending missionaries all over the place to undermine the Tribunal faith. Etc. There is a coherent narrative of Imperialism happening in real time (so to speak) and you're just another pawn in the Emperor's game, ultimately fulfilling his wishes of destabilising Morrowind.

I really don't know what the overall theme of Oblivion is. I've watched Patricians video on Oblivion, and some others. There's the self sacrifice, dysfunctional Counties, and other things, but none of it felt as cohesive for me. Nothing ultimately clicked that made me love Oblivion. It's good, and the ****** AI is fun despite its problems. But the world just felt like a downgrade, especially with the build up Morrowind gave us. I was expecting a broken Empire on the verge of collapse, with infighting and nobility attempting to consolidate power ala the Western Roman Empire or something. There was soul, it's clear passion was there in the team, but an element was also lost that gave the world its authenticity.

And Emil and other hack writers at Bethesda ensured it would never reach that height again. Starfield was his hubris in full display, and I doubt he has learned a single lesson on why it went wrong.

People complain that Oblivion went for too much of a traditional fantasy aesthetic and abandoned Morrowinds style when Morrowind was always the odd man out. Oblivion didn't change things to be more generic, it was a return to the form all TES games had pre-Morrowind.

I dunno it still has some unique elements. People do overplay the wacky factor tho.

That is true, and a good distinction to make. I preferred the Morrowind style of TES, and Todd had other ideas. It worked. Can't deny him that.

In some ways, sure, but also not what I was getting at. I mod Morrowind, I know full well the amount of blunders Bethesda made on it, and I know we would have gotten better designs/ideas if they had the time for it. Still, what we got is something I appreciate.

If I had a gun with 100 bullets with Emil and Satan in the same room I would beat Emil to death with the gun and shoot his corpse 100 times

Looking at LPs, 30 minutes to an hour is a typical time to complete it.
