Launching during WoW expansion launch? Are they worried about overloading the servers? Seems like a bad plan.Xenich wrote: ↑ February 27th, 2026, 18:19Ok, so word is... March 4th will be the new patch and wipe. If this were to occur, who wants to form a guild and give it a go?
Apparently, a ton of changes are coming to professions, mastery skills (never implemented as of yet that I know and will greatly effect class tuning and direction), as well as a ton of other things, specifically the NPC changes that will be more akin to EQ like. That is, no more chevron vs single mobs, etc... (other than specific named or the like that are tuned for such). Difficulty in encounter will be based on mob density pack (ie like EQ) where controlling the number of mobs through pulling, splitting, locking down, etc.... will be important. This will allow smaller groups, and less "ideal" makeups to use creative means to approach content, and that means yes... you will now be able to work into the areas and dungeons that were once "group only" if you are skilled, careful, and use cleverness (ie EQ style).
I would be interested in getting several of us together who own the game already, or are interested (willing to pick it up) and forming a guild when this happens to see how the game will unfold.
So... if interested, give a post so I can keep track and when the time gets closer we can coordinate a server and get things setup. If you are interested, go ahead and look up the classes and give an idea as to what you want to play. Play what you like, don't worry about "filling a role" as a responsibility, we will work it out as it comes and honestly... I would rather people play what they like and then we use that as a means to see what we can do against the content.
As for my class, no idea... I have played most of them and I really don't care what I play so I will likely fill anything I think might be useful once everyone has picked what they like.
If you have any questions on "what" to play, I "may" be able to help, but I haven't played in a while, so if major changes have been made, consider that.

The changes are rather large though, and unless there is something major, likely we won't see another wipe till release.
To be honest though, most of the WoW crowd really don't care for this game. I am not saying they should disregard them, but the bulk of the WoW players really don't care for it.

Xenich, I've bought the game. Will you check to see if the new patch is out? I'll make my character when you give the word.
Hope to join you boys at some point. Packing away some stuff still for this weekend, some gameplay up on the 2nd monitor. Post some pics for me after you get in game and characters made/when you meet up. Fight well boys.

Well, why would they? They already have WoW. There's no logical reason why they should defect and give up everything they own to have nothing. It therefore doesn't make a lot of sense to target these players, unless you plan to offer them some kind of conversion where they sell their accounts in exchange for credit on your thing.Xenich wrote: ↑ March 1st, 2026, 00:42To be honest though, most of the WoW crowd really don't care for this game. Because WoW players are like someone afraid to leave a bad relationship. They are always looking for something better to switch to for a few months.Norfleet wrote: ↑ March 5th, 2026, 01:53Well, why would they? They already have WoW. WoW refugees are like Commiefornians. They complain about the **** policies they've brought about that has turned their game into a shithole they hate, then flee to another game where they demand the same things that made WoW a shithole, turning that into WoW and alienating the native playerbase that played the game for it not being WoW, then also leave because now the new game is WoW, the shithole they fled from. Never pander to refugees demanding that things be made like where they fled from.J1M wrote: ↑ March 5th, 2026, 02:50Because WoW players are like someone afraid to leave a bad relationship. Maybe a small subset are willing to accept an EQ like game, but not many. Under the right circumstances, I have seen some WoW players embrace the concepts, but it was under specific conditions (ie a guild full of old school EQ players who appreciated the original design of the game) where people discussed and reasoned the features in play to which the WoW player warmed up to. In most cases though, the frustration of risk and consequence in EQs play (ie travel time, down time, death recovery, exploration, etc...) were too much than they were used to and quite punishing if they play habits weren't there.J1M wrote: ↑ March 5th, 2026, 02:50Because WoW players are like someone afraid to leave a bad relationship. Most dislike those concepts and think they get in the way of actual game play, which is viewed to be the combat. Everything else is just... pointless and a "time waster" to what they would rather be doing. Most WoW players really just can't get into it and to be honest, there is nothing wrong with that, but catering to them won't help the game, it will simply kill it because Pantheon really can't compete with being yet another WoW clone game (as is obvious by the tons of failed clones or games who tried to redesign to it over the years). People who want WoW, will always end back up in WoW, much like many EQ players who were seeking another "EQ" tended to always go back to EQ (well... until it became WoW like in many ways).
The only group I think that can sustain Pantheon and games like Monsters & Memories are those of the older mindset and those with open minds to that type of game play. The former is a small but consistent base and will hold the game up if they are modest about expectations and careful with expense. The latter will slowly converge to it, but will never be large in numbers (unless it becomes a fad).
There is a roadmap:mynameismortis wrote: ↑ March 5th, 2026, 08:32Is there any date for release? Or just the usual EA ********
https://www.pantheonmmo.com/roadmap/
The original EA timeline for release was set around 2 years if I remember right. They are about a year in so far I think. As to if they will end up holding to that release timeline, who knows...
I wouldn't hold my breath, but the 1-20 game is pretty fleshed out, 20-40 is there for play, but was a bit lacking in content last I played (though I heard they have added a lot more since then).
They aren't known for being consistent and solid on their development schedule obviously, so...
Likely Monster & Memories will steam roll them, but... if Pantheon ever does finish, it isn't a bad game at all and is actually enjoyable in play, very similar to EQs "style" and "flavor" of play.
Monsters & Memories is really EQ in many ways, literally... (though it has its own differences from what I have seen, @Kalarion could likely tell you a lot more about what. Pantheon is EQ in spirit, but has a lot of modernity thrown into it as well as some different approaches to old concepts. The bulk of EQs basic cores are there though which is why it is still fun to play IMO. Whether they retain that or screw the pooch by the time they release remains to be seen.

Not yet, apparently the "patch/wipe" didn't happen (big surprise). I will post here when it finally does and we can start setting up a server, guild, etc... They gave "spring" as when all this was to occur and the recent content patch (new dungeons and various class changes, etc... ) were supposed to be this week. Since they missed Wed, I assume they are pushing it back another week (or more depending on their issues).

I like Pantheon, but whether I commit to it or M&M will depend on their server rulesets. One of the big things Brad used to talk about was how their sever tech allowed for easy customizable changes and adaptions, everything from on the fly load instancing to being able to manage server rules.
My hope is that there will be a more EQ like server. Pantheon has a lot of "modern" aspects to the game which I dislike (ie portal stones in the zone areas which you can bind to, partial CR rules where you retain your equipped items, planned map in game, etc...). So if they can produce a more "traditional" server more akin to original EQ, I will be interested. If not, I may be more inclined to play M&M if it is more aligned to traditional EQ rules.
I tried it a long time ago (years ago), I didn't care for its ruleset, but... I am not against playing it a bit if others are playing it, to experience it a bit more.
@Kalarion
Patch went through... no servers up as of yet, also... I am unsure if this is the "wipe" update. It may not be yet, I only know "spring" is the note for when they wipe, so we will see if this update is it.
So, you can wait... or you can pop on and play around with some classes to get a feel, but don't put a lot of effort in obviously.

**** it, I'm tired of waiting around for them to get their **** together. I'm going to make a char and take it to like level 10 just to get a feel for the game.
Nothing wrong with playing around. Classes don't really "show" themselves till you get up a bit so you know. The way most of them work take some levels before the various bars and skills open up to see how they will eventually play. By 10 though, you should have a "fair" idea, but ultimately it is 20 where you see their full potential.Kalarion wrote: ↑ March 6th, 2026, 00:20**** it, I'm tired of waiting around for them to get their **** together. What server did you pick BTW?

I played the game until around level 10 or so. It's fun and seems to have interesting things to do.Kalarion wrote: ↑ March 6th, 2026, 00:20**** it, I'm tired of waiting around for them to get their **** together. I'm going to make a char and take it to like level 10 just to get a feel for the game.
Needs work still of course, and with the coming wipes, I'm holding off on trying this further until the 1.0 release in all likelihood.
Havensong for now. I made a Monk. What's the game's premier buffing class?
EDIT: added my char class.

Shaman mainly that I can remember.Kalarion wrote: ↑ March 6th, 2026, 01:43Havensong for now. I made a Monk. What's the game's premier buffing class?

Patch notes, this was some new content and a summoner overhaul, but the combat update is still coming this spring (which is where I believe the wipe will be done).

How does this compare to Monsters & Memories in fun and completeness? I've been tempted a few times, but I got sick of pregaming 20 years ago.

After I get Monk to 10 or so I'll try out Shaman.
Ghostcow, so far it seems fun. The first area is pretty much complete, including a full slate of quests. Give it a try.

****. Someone from HQ randomly gifted me the game so I guess I have to play. I'll meet up with you guys on Friday. I'll probably be available by 3pm CST and definitely by 7-8pm

1-20 game is pretty complete mostly, though I haven't played in a while. The elf area was pretty empty back then, but I think they have filled it out quite a bit since I played last. As Kal said, it is fun, it has that "base" EQ feel of play that is enjoyable. There is a lot to explore (don't forget you can climb and there are a lot of places hidden up and around through climbing). Classes take a while to flesh out fully, with how the abilities work and progress over the levels, so really understanding how the characters will play takes a while and some don't come into their full power until you reach some stages.GhostCow wrote: ↑ March 6th, 2026, 05:28How does this compare to Monsters & Memories in fun and completeness? Until the combat patch comes, group mobs are going to be impossible without a full balanced group, but they have been going back and de-grouping a lot of mobs since I played last. Past that, and my typical gripes about modern influence (port stones, CR/death penalty being too light, etc..) the game is quite enjoyable. Add in the combat change coming and I think the game could be quite fun, and many classes "seem" like they are traditional, but may play much differently after a while once you see their abilities expand out.
remember though, the wipe is coming... So don't obsess or grind heavy expecting to retain it. It says "March" and as I said, I think part of the combat change patch, so it should be relatively soon baring any complications.
