Aww I thought it was quite funny to see Gregs and Rusty get along for once.

Chapter 7: Rusty Lays An Egg

Most people seem unhappy about recent developments. Killing an invader is one thing, but capturing them and butchering them might be going a bit too far.

Image

Christians are having a tough time keeping faith in general. Negative feelings associated with their religion causes them to lose certainty,

Image

So rough plans for a church are drawn up

Image

As well as a few workshops. The area we've been using in the fort is far too crowded.

Image

Image

A feast is held to boost morale.

Image

Rowdy bunch. All of the meals are inhaled.

Image

Kala gets food poisoning from berries and then grabs more berries to eat.

Image

Mathieu manages to convert Lemon. Lord Stack ponders an orb on his throne in his new heavy hauberk.

Image

We're offered a strange quest. Lord Stack chooses the mask as a reward.

Image

The freaks arrive. Seems kind of sketchy.

Image

Elias hunts from donkeyback as the first harvest of hops comes in.

Image

A few hours after the ghouls arrive, one becomes giant and we fail the quest. I have no idea what happened, but it's now classified as a "nachzehrer". We name him Noon Eat All because he keeps eating all of our raw meat.

Image

This isn't good. At least our best doctor is unaffected. Strict bedrest for these 5 until they recover.

Image

Acrux hard at work erecting the church. Most of our builders have other tasks they keep busy with most of the time, so construction is going pretty slow.

Image

Sivan has managed to mount and ride Noon around.

Image

Lathandra snags another for the pagans.

Image

We start producing pemmican in storing it away for emergencies. Even in the summer heat it won't spoil for 1.2 years.

Image

Zeal of the convert.

Image

What the hell, Shani?

Image

Vitya is inspired by Lord Stack and vows to increase productivity. He feels a bit funny though.

Image

More tortoises for the cause.

Image

Everybody is recovering from their illness except Old Man. Old age makes it more difficult, but there's still a chance he'll pull through.

Image

Image

Noon likes to bite the heads off of wild raccoons when he gets hungry.

Image

Lil' Rusty has laid an egg! It'll hatch in a few days.

Image

Lemon vs Hoss (round 2?). Hoss actually doesn't get knocked on his *** this time.

Image

Old Man is losing it. He gets up from bed and starts binging on deathstinger honey until he overdoses, then he wanders in a daze before collapsing and being dragged back to bed.

Image

If you're keeping score, there are now 6 pagans and 11 Christians.

Image

Scratch that. Acrux is converting more people than our priest.

Image

On the 13th of Jugust, August "Old Man" de Beers has succumbed to malaria. He didn't live to see our first batch of beer after toiling over the hops field.

One of the ghouls must have eaten a corpse, or killed an animal and ate it. Those are built off the Battle Brothers Naz(ghoul) creature who have a similar mechanic.

How is that rock to the west still standing!?! What do you have me even doing!? I YEARN FOR THE MINES!

Godspeed Oldman, may you be reunited with your pigwife in that great wallow up in the sky.

Gee, our priest is doing a really terrible job keeping the faith. At this rate we're all going to be smothering ourselves in blood and **** and barking at the moon.

RIP Old Man. I am happy he died doing what he loved; drugs. :salute:
I hope Lathandra doesn't take it too bad, being his apprentice or whatever. :toot:
He never did get to realize all his alchemy plans, but I guess she'll take them over if she gets the chance, but the specialization is dead.

Looking forward to seeing the child of @rusty_turtleford (she/her) and the inevitable unintentional semite chimpout.

Gather 'round ye, folks, and lend me your ear, For a tale of Skullsmasher, bold without fear. With Bonecrusher at his side, fierce and wild, And seven brave souls, a courageous guild.

The opening volley failed, the daer's hide too tough, Arrows bounced off—weren’t strong enough. Skullsmasher charged first, a reckless knight, While archers fell back, behind infantry might.

He climbed the beast, blade flat in hand, Wailing on its head, a hero so grand. Inspired by his courage, the fighters did charge, The battle grew fierce, with Skullsmasher in charge.

Miraculously, the daer went down, Bonecrusher wounded, yet still around. It was Sivan’s spear that pierced the lung, The beast collapsed, the victory sung.

Oh, sing of Skullsmasher, hero so grand, And Bonecrusher the hyena, forever they stand. Awarded the honor, the killing blow, For in the heart of battle, his legend did grow.

So raise your tankards, let the tavern resound, With the tale of Skullsmasher, his glory renowned. For in the annals of history, his deeds shall remain, The conqueror of daers, forever his fame.

When I made characters, I was making characters for @Oyster Sauce's game, I didn't even consider them to be representative of me (which is usually bad practice in roleplaying anyway, which is what I usually make characters for), let alone that there was a limit of one. I was close to making, like, three or four. :toot:

Chapter 8: The Ballad of Lil' Gregz

The boys flee through the woods after a hunting trip goes wrong

Image

They find help and manage to take it down. We've eaten most of the more docile prey around here and have to turn to hunting big game.

Image
Image

At the same time, a bunch of rats go mad and start swarming from all sides. Shani bashes one with her broomstick.

Image
Image

An ancient troll wanders in and gets uncomfortable close to us. All we can do is pray it moves on before it gets hungry. Even though it's resting in our fields, that thing only eats meat.

Image

A little baby turtle hatches in the kitchen. We won't eat him unless we have to. Food is in abundance right now anyway.

Image
Image

A trading caravan passes through. Vergil is our best negotiator so he approaches them. The daer antlers sell incredibly well, but they don't have anything we particularly need besides a bit of herbal medicine so they can only afford one. They also tell us they've heard rumors that someone was kidnapped by House Hesse at a camp not far from here.

Image

Of course we're going to help. We need to plan a route though.

Image

Oh yeah, there's a whole continent out there by the way.

Image

Strong volunteers form up, taking supplies, beasts trained for combat, and those two donkeys we got earlier to carry back any spoils of war.

Image
Image

Immediately after departing, Hoss, Sivan, and William get sick. We turn around to drop them off, grab Vitya, and leave once more.

Image

Back at base, something awful happens. A lindwurm starts hunting Shani.

Image

Everybody is ordered into the fort. Shani barely shuts the door behind her before being caught. At full strength it would be a questionable fight, but right now we only have one or two capable fighters, women, malaria-ridden idiots, and a young boy.

Image

Denied its meal, the lindwurm begins stalking new prey.

Image

Image

Image

Image

It's over... at only 179 years old, lil Gregz has been devoured by the mighty lindwurm.

In the next chapter we need to decide if we want to finish building the tannery or the stonecutting workshop first.

Image

Wait....

It can't be....

HE'S FIGHTING BACK!

Image

His shell is protecting him! RALLY! RALLY ON LIL' GREGZ

Image
Image

Lil Gregz escapes the fray, injured but alive.

Image

Total Band of the Rusted Turtle victory.

Image

Meanwhile, Vergil is executing a woman.

Image
Image

The rest of the party charges forward.

Image

Is that a goddamned handgonne?

Image

Bonecrusher chases him down before he can get a shot off. Enemy reinforcements rush out from behind cover.

Image

It's a massacre. Elias is critically injured but stabilized in the field. We probably should have brought a doctor or some medicine with us. Where's the Old Man when you need him?

Image
Image

Vergil bashes down a door and finds the kidnap victim. A 7 year old girl named Camille Pascale.

Good to see Boontaker is having the time of his life mining day and night.

IRC the stonecutter is for making statues and I'm guessing the tannery would give us better combat gear so my vote would be for a tannery first.

Chapter 9: Why Did We Adopt A Corpse Eating Monster?

The party returns from the rescue mission with a new villager. Elias didn't die, by the way, he was just beaten up pretty badly.

Image

The inept trait has secured her position as a full time cleaner and hauler. Don't underestimate the value of dumb labor though.

Image

Children have to choose from a selection of random traits a few times as they grow. The more they study, observe adults, and play, the more traits you'll be offered at these stages. We will not be building an elementary school. Tough luck, kid.

Image

Hoss is faring pretty poorly against his malaria.

Image

Thankfully I remembered Vergil can preach to boost his immune system, and that he's Christian once again.

Image

Mathieu's cabin gets a little coal storage shed because we have so much of it.

Image

Vergil's so tired he decides he'll sleep for a few days.

Image

Kala hits 15 construction and decides to specialize in architecture, which'll help him produce higher quality furniture.

Image

He also makes these little public toilets inspired by a KCD screenshot I found.

Image
► Show Spoiler
Boontaker lives his best life.

Image

Wandering bums show up begging for silver to ransom their friend. It's half of our stockpile, but it'll give Christians a mood bonus, shore up their certainty for a while, and give us a few development points (7/10). Maybe they'll even pay us back some day.

Image
Image

Progress shot of the church.

Image

We also get a quest that gives us the opportunity to send a revenge raid against the pigskin tribe.

Image

While our away team travels, we figure out wheat and start preparing some land for it.

Image
Image

And then we get ANOTHER quest that can potentially lead us to a fragment of the True Cross. If we had that, we could set up a reliquary and attract pilgrims. And a mood boost probably? I've never done one of these quests.

Image

The squad arrives near the enemy base. Only one guard is visible, the rest must be inside. We move up and Hoss blasts him with his new handgonne. Pretend it didn't eject a shotgun shell.

Image
Image

The first one crashes into our line and decapitates Sivan. Skull Smasher moves up and beheads one in retaliation. Bonecrusher tears an arm off of the enemy on the right.

Image
Image

In the final moments of the battle, Stack is knocked out, William nearly loses his own head, and Noon devours his master's body - we didn't pack any raw meat for the trip and he must have been pretty hungry. All in all, this loot wasn't worth losing one of our best fighters. If only we had a steady supply of volunteers arriving regularly...

Image

Skull Smasher gets hypothermia on the way back, forcing us to drop excess loot. Luckily everyone is able to make it back when the sun comes up.

Image

A funeral is held for Sivan around an empty grave. Forging priorities are shifted towards helmets in his honor. Everything seems a little shinier somehow.

Image

And then everybody moves into the church for the first time to celebrate All Saints' Day. They also try very hard to ignore the giant corpse eating monster bleeding all over the place.

Image

Celebrations go exceedingly well. Unfortunately, raiders attack from the north and south in the morning. Skull Smasher leads the north team, while Lord Stack personally sees to the defense of the south side.

Image
Image
Image

Bonecrusher charges in and nearly tears this idiot's throat out. Our boys take care of the rest. The north side had fewer enemies to deal with so they start rotating down south.

Image
Image

Meanwhile, Noon Eat All is tanking three enemies at once while Mathieu tries out his new crossbow.

Image

Lord Stack loses his duel and gets knocked out again. Oscar and William win their fights, and Vitya charges across the bridge to try to catch a routing enemy. We've won here.

Image
Image

Skull Smasher handles the rest of the north side by himself.

Image

And Vitya takes no prisoners.

Image

Speaking of prisoners, Lathandra attempts to patch up a downed enemy so we can capture her, but Noon casually walks up and bites her head off. They even bond while she's seeing to his cuts, making her his new master.

Image

The day ends with a beautiful aurora in the sky that raises everyone's spirits. We may have lost Sivan, but we gained higher resolution texture packs in return.

Lathandra calls dibs on the child and keeping it safe from Vergil! I know it's a girl but small girls can be confused with small boys, and I don't think any of us wants to give him the opportunity.

She can play with the troll-thing, because apparently it is now the Midwife Honour Guard and the First Aid Special Forces.
