I played through the first 3 missions, it's not bad, but I wouldn't say it's great either.

There's a couple of common complaints I've heard in negative reviews, so I'll address those.

"Reeeeeee, game runs like poooo" - The frame rates are very stable and consistent for me, difference between the 1% lows and the average is fewer than 15 frames, and I didn't notice any hitches.
"Reeeeeee, the game is too hard on veteran, I couldn't properly parry because I'm animation locked" - ******* git gud, ******. Dontcha know that using the pistol + sword instead of a rifle allows you to swap between melee and shooting quicker, and this means being able to parry quicker, without animation locks? The parry and dodge timings are extremely generous too.

There's a meme about blood ravens doing "resource acquisition" on anything that isn't nailed down (meaning relics and other important things) and how even the nailed down things wouldn't be safe from them.
They should be some type of disciplinary action for such egregious behaviour.
Nobody ever gets mad at the squadie that has extra toilet paper, rations, magazines, melta-bombs.

I'm still a noob when it comes to most 40k lore so correct me if I'm wrong, but don't all Space Marines receive the same "super gene" during their creation, thus making them genetically similar once the process is done?

So when they call each other "brother" it would be factually accurate and they are even supposed to look as of they're actually blood related.
It's up to the geneseed used, AFAIK most marines have a grayish or pallid skin tone. Only a handful of chapters have human looking skintones. So even in the setting where everyone is supposed to be the most similar you still get *******.

Considering 40k originated from the UK everyone was vaguely European. Even the "black" skinned salamanders just looked like yoked up brits with charcoal black skin.

Thou shall be no quarter for such disobedience

They need be to strip of their rank and exiled to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Only then justice can be served.

Played it a bit more. All of the guns feel bad in different ways, like the game just really wants you to mash the melee button. World War Z felt a lot better, just wish they didn't take the EGS deal. I think it could have been relevant if it had launched on Steam. Plus it's 4 player!

edit: also love that you get the primaris surgery and absolutely nothing changes

Really? That's lazy, for primaris all they needed to do was make you 20% bigger, 25% more hp, and increase your melee swing animations by 15% and that would be a tabletop direct difference!

Dawn of War didn't get the bolter right, either. Seems to be a theme with modern 40K games. Supposed to sound like a canon. I thought I heard newer eds are shootier, so I'd expect the gunporn to be good.

I picked the one devs said the game was designed for. I'd be a cuckold if I went lower.

Darktide mostly sucked but the gunplay was legit. The bolters were the most accurate adaptation I've seen in a video game.

They looked like trucks and hit like one too.

I watched the cutscenes and LOOOOOL the devs made "flip stick upside down" the enemy's weakness. A weakness so simple, any marine could figure it out.

Gameplay is mindless, monotonous and boring.
Optimization does not exist.
The characters i couldn't give a single **** about after few hours of gameplay.
The locations do look very pretty though, if you have PC with parts worth around few thousand $, which i don't.

Also, i'm sick of parrying in modern videogames, it's like back in 2012 it for some reason became a requirement to have a some form of longbow in your shooters, same thing happening now only it's a different gimmick every game dev keeps regurgitating after eachother. It did looked kinda cool and flashy in RE4 remake when i'd find location where my FPS could get to a steady number and i managed to pull it off, but i can't take this **** anymore, enough is enough

It's games like this that make me feel like i turned into one of the bitter adults i was surrounded by troughout my childhood.

There are of course worse games, this one isn't a terrible way to spend time if this is your thing, but it is extremely mediocre one. I'd rather go let my brains continue melting in Brigador or OG Dead Rising instead.

It looks like gameplay's on par with the first game, just much prettier levels.

****** love 40K because the space marine surgery and hormone therapy remind them of their transition, and there can be no hope for them in this world, which is why they love grimdark.

Just completed the campaign, it's full of testosterone, manly men doing manly things, killing chaos without bitching and moaning while having a brotherly bond.

Yeah, that's one part I dislike but the campaign tells you why the multiplayer classes all have unique faces (they are in the campaign under your command and help you, you play them in operations, the pve mode)

I just wish the option to turn on helmets actually also put them on those guys in the campaign, as well as in cutscenes (for obvious reasons).
