Something about tweaking the settings in a horror game just rubs me the wrong way.

Really? I remember seeing the devlogs of Vivo and it looked quite awful. The low poly graphics, terrible effects, lots of bloom, really bizarre setup (your dog runs away and you go looking for it) etc. Was the final product greatly imporved on what he was showcasing in the early days?
it's a pretty creative horror pastiche. Feels less than a cohesive experience, and more of a 'greatest hits of horror' kind of thing. The plot is nonexistent ("lost in vivo" basically means your character got lost in his own mind during a psychologist session), and you just progress from one weird area to another without any rhyme or reason. There are sewers, subway tunnels, catacombs, caves, industrial areas, even Resident Evil-like labs. Every area has its own gimmick and entirely new bestiary, so you never know what to expect - in some areas you're getting haunted by the ghosts, in other - by invincible Nemesis-like monster chaser, etc.

The game does look pretty garish.

You may as well not bother replying to my posts if it's to argue anything except concrete facts or your personal opinion. I still probably won't see it.

Neither a useful or amusing answer.
In fact, reading that reply is a waste of my time.

he has been told that he didn't "deserve" the recognition he has received throughout his successful career because it wasn't due to his incredible skills, but merely due to him being black
This is true though. There's a thousand mediocre games released daily, only reason he got any recognition is because he's black and made a game about blacks

New Guild Wars 2 expansion announced.

  • New spear weapon for every class
  • Warclaws being reworked for PvE
  • Player housing
  • New raid
  • New PvP mode
Image

Neat new leap ability for Ranger. Is that exclusively a Ranger spear weaponskill? Or can I use that as a hammer wielding Untamed?

EDIT: Upon reading the news post, it seems it looks like Warclaws are getting a new Janthir skin, which the Ranger is using in his leap in the video. Does that leap reflect whatever your current Warclaw skin is? Or it going to always be the fluffy Janthir warclaw skin? Would be nice if I could change it to something more intimidating.

I am not super excited for the setting, which seems to be mundane rather than fantastical, but platforming across rugged waterfalls might be fun. Shame that this map will be coming out after everyone has easy access to mounts that trivalize navigating the environment.

Warclaws being revamped for PvE mounted combat? Maybe Anet will get around to making a large Warclaw skin appropriate for a big Charr character? Whenever I ride a Warclaw (or any mount besides the Dreadnaught Raptor skin or the Turtle), I feel like I am on a small pony.

New PvP mode sounds interesting. Would also be nice to get a new WvW map too.

What mods are so good that they effectively replace the base game they spawned from?. I've been playing through Arcane Dimensions, and it does that in spades for the original "Quake". Not only does it add a lot of great fan-made levels, some of which I would even call beautiful and aesthetic, but it fixes a nagging issue with the original by changing the shotguns. Turning them from hitscan weapons, to projectile ones. Since the double-barrel shotgun is more-or-less your primary weapon for much of the game, it gives the combat a more cathartic feel. The mod even includes the original levels with this change, and adds an extra "Chaos" mode for them that includes the new enemy types found in the mod.

It makes the base game all but irrelevant now, and I can't see myself ever playing regular Quake again. It was a half-decent title before, but now it's pretty great.

Mechwarrior Living Legends, a total overhaul for a Crysis game. In MWLL, you can not only play as a mech pilot, but also a foot soldier and drive ground vehicles or fly jets.

That's impressive, you couldn't tell it came from Crysis at all.

My bad, wrote the last post in a way that could be misunderstood like this. It was in context of the game's brightness. It can't be less or more scary than it is, than can't be adjusted.
Booted the game up, went to the options and that is what can be changed:
► Show Spoiler
Turned down the Gamma to get this, followed by how it looks when playing in the sewers:
► Show Spoiler
Just saw that wndrbr spoiled some stuff, but not that much. The game not being a cohesive experience works in favor of it. Makes it more unpredictable and easier to jump-scare. Canonically, the player character's mind is also a mess.

So the DEI clowns got to Silent Hill 2. This particularly enrages me because it was one of my favorite games and Maria's sexualized design was a central element of the plot. Her personality has also changed to be less brash and seductive. Other female characters were also trannified.

Every man's true representation of lust and repressed sexual cravings is a square jawed 38 year old woman in business casual.

Yes. Her appearance as a trashy girl was 100% ON PURPOSE, as she represents the main character's guilt and mal-idolized lust towards his (now dead) wife.

******* modern adult-child developers can't understand the slightest subtext in a game.

Specifically, she's the sexualized version of his dead wife, hence why she's not a 10/10 and has a bit of flab on her belly, among other imperfections. IIRC she dresses like a stripper/prostitute that James saw.

Only criticism is that she looks older than she actually is (as do all other characters in the game).

The degenerates have taken over gaming, even Quake apparently. https://github.com/MissLavender-LQ/LibreQuake

"Miss" indeed. If even the grassroots are infested with these types, what hope does Silent Hill or any other franchise have?. Next to none. Enforced compliance is happening everywhere, Blackrock is just one tenant of it. Once the people are infected, they spread the mind disease to others and police all avenues of discussion and potential for dissenting opinion.

I did actually want a third "Shadow of" game, but I suppose that is never going to happen at this point. Shadow of War came out 7 years ago, and this developer has yet to release 'anything' since. A far cry from their days as a unique FPS developer.
